Breeding decisions for me ?

We have:
A mare by Chromatic xx - Grundsee (by Grundstein). She could use a nicer neckset and maybe a bit more thletism in her movement. She has a good hindleg but I would like it more electric so to say. At the moment pregnant by For Compliment for the second time.
In her close relatives lots of sport horses, no international caliber, but higher level Amateur horses, both in jumping nd dressage.

The Florencio - Prince Thatch mare has a good hindleg but is not the tallest (which does not matter she appears tall - good frame). The super freedom of shoulder that I wanted to have from Florencio did not appear so this could be improved. Walk and canter are really good. Overall she is still a bit of a teenager. She was bred to Benetton Dream and I might get a discount for him next year as she did not take. He may have changed owners, so that is not clear yet.

Than we have my Sandro Hit - Rouletto mare. She could use a little heavier "leg conformation" for her size - missing an english word here. the stallion could inherit result into smaller horses but should definitelyimprove quietness and inner calmness(being more relaxed). She is a pretty good jumper and she has three super gaits including a good walk. The latter disappears into a Sandro Hit gait as soon as she is getting tense or distracted. A stallion that creates sleeping pills would not be bad ;-) at the moment pregnant by Farewell III.

So let the ideas float. Oh: stallion has to be in europe (preferably Germany) and has to be approved Hanoverian (must not be hanoverian though).

Yes he would be an idea for Caribic ! He will get on the list ! I will bug you and may pay Jochen a visit. Caribic is about 1,68 - 1,70m.

O.k. Sandro Hit gait. Well that is the typical gait that a lot of Sandro Hits make out walk. It is something very strange inbetween pacing and short strides and not really pacing. It is no 4-beat anymore but also not a real pace. They sort of exagerate the walk a bit in a very strange way. In any case undesirable !!! A lot of Sandro Hits do have only this sort of walk. I know that mine can walk in a clear 4-beat with very nice rhythme, overreach of 1,5 feet at least and nice freedom of shoulder (in german we have a specific wort - Schreiten for freedom in walk - no idea what that is in english) . If I would not know she has it, I would have given her away without hesitation. This mare has all one can ask for, but on the same side she is on the small path between genius and lunatic !

Alexandra, you have lovely mares!! Thinking of your Sandro Hit mare how about Desperados? He and his young offspring seem to be doing quite well! With his breeding, it seems you may get the "bone" you desire and maybe a sleeping pill or two ;) I haven't had the chance to see him in person, maybe you have?

I do know of a stallion that would be a great match with your Sandro Hit-Rouletto mare but he is a Hanoverian that is over here & 'only' approved Oldenburg Verband, not Hanoverian. However, he does match your list of improvement requests with lots of offspring on the ground to prove his prepotency (great minds, grounded temperaments, lots of bone without being heavy) and has excellent frozen semen for export to the EU through Select Breeders.

I'd lean towards a non-Donnerhall line for the Florencio-Prince Thatch just because of a gut feeling...hmmmm, how about Londontime or Alabaster?

For the Chromatic-Grundsee (is it Grundstein I or II BTW?) - what about Wolkentanz I? We've had very good success improving the things you listed with him on our half bred mares...especially the neck set & elasticity. The hind legs have been good but there is a tendency towards having a straight(er) stifle on most of the get that I've seen, so that is always a worry, but the engagement & use is more than adequate.

I am a Wolkentanz fan, but for Caribic I have to ask someone else aswell and I that person does not like him. :-(( For the very same things you say i like him. For the Florencio - yes I have the same feeling - no real Donnerhall. Alabaster is a complete nogo for me due to work ethic of a lot of them. Londontime maybe an idea, I will also look into Locksley II even though Weltmeyer would be doubled up there.

Grundsee was privately owned and is by Grundstein I. A good jumper and one of Caribic's halfsisters competed upto level S (1,40m I believe) in Germany. We are not sure if she can jump aswell. Her maretest was not very good in that, but the owners at that time were dressagespecialists, so who knows how she was prepaired. She is not as sound that we would want to risk testing her freejumping ourselves.

Your mares are very lovely!

Just off the top of my head, what about Stedinger for the Chromatic mare? I like him the best of the SH's, and there is the interesting addition of Lanadel to add to the jumper in her pedigree. I also like Fuerst Romancier.

For the SH mare, are you trying to say that you want to add bone?
What about De Niro?

The Florencio is tough, I will have to give it some more thought...

I think that the Stedinger would produce too tall for the mare, as she is already tall. Besides, I think Alexandra wants other than SH line for now (my guess only)

So, Herr WIndler sold Bennetons Dream you think? but with Anne S.F. not there. Imperio is a beautiful horse so if you can switch your breeding that would be interesting. He had a couple of foals this year, perhaps you can track them down?

So, why not Donnerhall on the the Florencio? the Florencio/Donnerhall at the HLP was impressive in the dressage area?

That was what I used on her when she was three. She did not take than and now he is in GB, so I thought this is a hassle.

Linda is correct, no more SH blood in my breeding (well at least this is the idea, but who knows).

De Niro - Too short legged for my taste.

No Donnerhall on the Florencio, well I would also like to keep length of leg, not shorten what can do.

Linda asked a few posts back about why no Donnerhall and I'll explain why I said that - you had requested a free shoulder (which to me means a free elbow), so that is a hit or miss with that D line IMHO. No offense on the thumbs down with Alabaster...you see these guys & way more of their offspring than I do!!! :)

Thanks for the info on Grundsee. We knew Grundstein quite well when he was first brought over to the US, so I am always curious & wanting to learn more!
