Husband wants to go visit his brother who lives in Vancouver. Being that I am not really into sight-seeing, prefer a riding-type vacation, can anyone recommend a dressage barn willing to give several lessons for just a week or so? Husband and bro-in-law can hang out, I can go ride.

Too bad your are not into sightseeing - Vancouver and the surrounding area (Whistler, the islands, the coast) is pretty spectacular. Can be rainy this time of year......

lots of trainers in the area.... just a matter of which side how far etc... i'm not form the area but i know there are quite a few FABULOUS trainers out there.
one barn has 3-4 level 3 coaches, as well as Leslie reid teaches there. But i don't know the name of the barn! (friend travels in for lessons there) .
Here is the Dressage canada groups contact info for BC- probably best place to start is emailing them for suggestions http://www.equinecanada.ca/dressage/index.php?option=com_content&task=category&id=11&Itemid=462

Leslie Reid doesn't offer lessons on her horses, and neither do most of the upper level trainers. You might be stuck going to a school-string type of trainer. Monique Fraser is good, her farm is in Langley, it's called Rosewyn. You could also try Rochelle Kilberg her barn in on 184th/2nd Ave in South Surrey. I'm not sure about school strings in the immediate vancouver area, you could call Southlands riding club and see if they have any suggestions.

Yeah, no one seems to have any good schoolmasters although there are lots of kiddy type lower level teaching barns. I live not far from Vancouver and I had to fly to Ottawa to find a GP schoolmaster and coach. Monique Fraser is nice, but I am not sure if she has schoolhorses of any caliber.
Nice places to visit- Capilano suspension bridge, Lighthouse POint park, walk the seawall around Stanley Park. The Grouse Grind is closed right now due to slippery conditions ( its a 2 1/2 hour walk straight up the mountain and then you take the cable car down for free...) The ski hill will be open soon if its not already. Whistler opened last week.

I think Rochelle Kilberg at Hazelmere may have a schoolmaster - you can give her a shout!

Super, thanks for all the info! I figure I am asking a lot since will only be there a week or so but sounds like there may be some options.
Will do some sightseeing, just need to keep riding!

I really enjoy my lessons with Dr. Susan Thompson at Crescent Stables (in Ladner, about a half hour drive from Vancouver, so a bit closer than Langley). She's a Level II coach and has a number of lesson horses. I'm not sure what level you ride at, but while she doesn't have uber high-level lesson horses, they aren't all poky lesson ponies either.

I take lessons with Monique on my own horse but she definitely has schoolhorses worthy of taking for a spin. :)
Her riding school is called Rosewyn Stables and she is located in Aldergrove @ 25241 Fraser Hwy in Langley

I don't think she does. The only one I can think of that does is Rochelle Kilburg. But that horse is for sale......whether he is sold yet or not I haven't heard. (I would like to scoop him up....he'd be FUN!)
Leslie Reid definitely does not offer lessons on any of her horses, she mainly works with haul ins and her full time students. Andrea Taylor is also out here, but she does not teach on her horses either. There is also Penny Pillow and Eleanore Elstone at Pacific Country stables, not sure on the status of lessons there though, but I could ask :-)

mmm.. not likely. I'm not entirely positive re: what some of the newer arrivals can do but they would be rusty either way.

Does Rochelle still have Archie / Monarch / Argenta? I don't know which name he goes by now.
