So why does it have to rain this weekend.....? I'm going to mine and the pony's first HT in 2 years and it's 100% chance of rain tomorrow....and 70% on Sunday. Grrr.

gotta go find my rain gear

HA...well welcome back to the eventing world. You might as well as get the rain out of the way, then the heat, the hard ground, etc It ain't ever perfect. Good luck and bring lots of "extra" of everything.

see, I was hoping for just cold...I'd even prefer getting dumped into the water complex while it is cold to having to ride the jumping phases in the rain...

Ahh, nothing like running x-c when it is raining so hard you hope that your contacts don't get washed out of your eyes. All part of the fun.

Oh joy...I hadn't even thought of that possibility..... Thanks Flypony. I'm mostly concerned about the footing getting slick...

If you're showing at Pine Top, the footing will not be a concern, rain or no...I promise...

I know they have very good footing there, i've ridden there before... I think i'm more of being the over-protective parent/nervous rider at this point (mare tore a stifle about 5 years ago and is a little weaker on it sometimes)....

However it was suppose to rain all day here and I havent' seen a drop yet, so maybe it wont' rain this weekend?

I think my mare used to think that you ONLY went XC in the rain. I think she had 2 full seasons of every single XC ride in the rain.

And once it was raining so hard I didn't notice I'd lost a contact....

Geez RFI, I think I jinxed myself! It was as gummy as I've EVER seen it, and I've seen some monsoons out there. Did not have a nice sj, that's what happens when it's muddy and you take your leg off like an eejit. One day I'll learn, one day, I'm sure of it...or get really old trying.:lol:

I will say, everyone had the same crummy conditions...it rained ALL day with more tomorrow. Lots of scratches after sj...I think many people had enough.

I was JUST going to email you and checked COTH BB first...damn! Was sloppy here all day too so I knew it wouldn't be fun down PTF way...be happy you were out there. Bestest luck tomorrow! And rain or not, you KNOW the footing....:D

You are right - we are so blessed to be able to do this, rain or shine, cold or hot, moron or genius (that moron would be ME today. How will I live with myself for the next few days??? )

These conditions are not my favorite but they do make eventers out of us, yes? (Or so we like to say as we plod onward through the muck with drenched tack, water streaming in torrents off the brim of our helmets).

I hope the OP had a super ride today and tomorrow as well, and is not soundly cursing me as I type this! Please report back and tell me you won, otherwise I will have to retire from this bb.

My baby horse is doing her first novice at PTF this weekend with Mike Winter and I'm DYING to know how she's doing. Do they post overnight results or just final results? Sorry you all had such a wet go of it, blech.

This happened to me at Flora Lea in September. I was all out of sorts (because I couldn't see!), got too far forward, and got up close and personal  with the inside of a ditch at a half coffin. Needless to say, I ran three times in the pouring rain after that without any issues. Good luck! Hopefully the rain won't spoil your fun.

Would someone let me know who the photographer was at Pine Top this weekend? I was a weather wimp and didn't go down to watch my filly go, so I'm hoping that he/she got some good ones.

Thanks!

Debbie was too modest to say that baby Spot On was 4th in the POURING rain at her very first Novice. :D

Oh yea, it was fun! LOL. I"m so glad I'm finally home and warm again! We had a GREAT dressage test (a 28!!!) and then I started micro-managing her in the stadium and had two stops at the beginning and then x-c we had two stops on the first jump and one at the second.... And then she was great for the rest of the course. I'm so proud of my girl though. She was such a trooper through all of the muck. And for doing so good even though I decided to do this show at the last minute and hadn't even gone schooling for 2 years(, i know...) We ended up in 7th...cause well everyone else either withdrew or got eliminated. But this was just suppose to be a schooling show to get out feet wet and back in the game, so I'm extremely happy with how she did.

Hope everyone else's rides went good and you accomplished what you wanted!

photographer was Hoof Clix. their website is www.hoofclix.com. You might have to go to google and type it in though. that's the only way i've been able to get to it so far.

Thanks horse_on_course (& RFI :D). My girl's photos aren't up yet, but the ones that are the rain looks brutal. "Getting your feet wet" was right h_o_c -- and every other blasted part of ya!

Everyone complains about the weather but no one does anything about it!

Hey I was at PTF this weekend and though the weather was horrendious, i'm amazed at the resiliency (sp?) of Eventers! As a recient convert from the h/j world- I guarentee that show would have been canceled before it started in the h/j world now (in the good ol days we used to ride grand prixs in thunderstorms all the time, but I digress). But at PTF- i heard no complaints to the show management about the weather/footing/grounds/lack of umbrellas, everyone just went on about their buisness, rode their horses, and rolled with the punches! What a refreshing change...
Go Eventers!
And the footing was still decient after all that rain and wear and tear...

I was quite impressed with the footing there. My mare was barefoot in all that muck and she never slipped once, even on the x-c course! I think it was definately one of the times that being barefooted was better than having shoes and studs in

My horse ran this weekend with trainer in the tack(thank goodness!). I was grooming. She also had two other rides -- all in prelim so we were in the rain a good long time on both days. Kudos to the officials and volunteers who kept things moving along -- and to the competitors! Oddly enough the horses all seemed to do OK -- but the riders got good lessons in adverse element conditions! Don't want to learn that lesson at your first big 3-day!

Thanks Janet and Glenn for letting us all run on your beautiful grounds this past weekend!

Pffft. We are on our 3rd major snowstorm and there are no shows for five months. No pity coming from here. :)

i was at pine top too!! (I was on the clipped little spotted chestnut in JBN). My trainer and I were really amazed at how considerate Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were about the safety at the show. When I was walking my sj course, they shifted many of the jumps a few feet each way so that the footing wouldn't be as bad. When I was jump judging, I saw Mr. Wilson actually take his tractor and move a cross country jump a few feet to the side in order to provide better footing. The cross country optimum time was also increased in order to make the rides safer on course. This event was great, even with the not so great weather. I can't wait to return!:D

Thank god I wasn't the only one who was unamused with the weather at PTF this weekend.... I had no idea the footing there could get that icky (though still better than most facilities, don't get me wrong!)! I put regular studs on my prelim horse for showjumping, slid around and had two rails.... UGH. Put whoppin big studs on the Novice horse for SJ and XC, and on the Prelim horse for XC and had no problems with slipping, but the XC footing was DEEP in some spots! So glad my munchkins jumped around no problems...

We all contributed to tearing the place up pretty good, but in a couple weeks you will never know anything happened. I love Pine Top. A beautiful, resilient place with wise management.

Thanks Janet & Glenn.

Was at pine top too! I used my huge studs this weekend for the first time and never had one slip... we did trot a couple times because it was so nasty and got 38 time penalties in prelim, which knocked us to 6th but o well better than falling!
