My first “horse of a lifetime,” Chutney, passed away on November 8 - we were together for 23 years.

That evening, I had a dream in which she had white wings and galloped by me, looked back for a second, and few off into the clouds.

I’ve been missing her a lot. On Saturday, I asked God for a sign that Chutney is OK. That night, for a fleeting moment, I saw her in a dream. She was galloping in endless green meadows beside a big, beautiful dapple grey that I did not recognize.

This morning, I received an email from Chut’s previous owner. She said she’d be reminiscing about Chut and her first companion, with whom she was turned out for several years while both lived at her farm. The horse passed away several years ago. She was a big, beautiful dapple grey. :)

I know I am not losing my mind!

Has anyone else seen their decreased horse in a dream??

I currently have 2 living horses, but anytime I dream about horses or riding, my beloved Jessie (had her for 10 yrs) is the one who is there. I like to think it's her way of saying hello to me. :)

I do. But I had my horse since I was pretty young.

And when I was little, if I was afraid or work up with a nightmare, I had this little "dream" scenario that I would imagine and it always included my BuddyRoo (and my pony Midnight)....

So...sometimes when I'm really stressed out now as an adult? I have that "dream"...I think it's a self-soothing thing.

Had that horse for over 25 years...gone but certainly not forgotten.

I'm sorry for your loss. ((((hugs)))

I occasionally see two horses that I lost a long time ago. One is a grey arabian gelding and I frequently have dreams where I am riding my horse who is black and he turns into the grey. The other was an appy that I adored and once in a great while I have a dream that we are going XC which is not something that ever happened in real life. They are fun dreams.:)

I just keep dreaming that I am going out to see Blaze and sometimes ride him. He is still here, just not "here" as in near me, so I haven't gotten to ride him in months and have seen him only once in all that time.

One of my riding friends, who liked one of the horses where Blaze now boards, is always in these dreams--I wish I knew some way to convince her to go out and do a lesson with me on "our" horses, in real life!

I had these for my dog Rascal. Very tactile - I could feel him, smell him, feel the warmth of his body. I did not get to say goodbye to him when he needed to be put to sleep, I had to give the okay over the phone as I was in the hospital recovering from major surgery. I think this way I got to say goodbye and "I love you."

What a wonderful dream you had. Hugs.

I love dreaming about my first horse who died about 3 years ago - it's like I get to see him again. I have really vivid dreams that almost seem real sometimes. Sometimes I wake up and feel like I got to spend an afternoon with him again. I'll have really "real" dreams about him too - like I just go to the barn, groom him, feed him treats, ride, etc.

That was a wonderful dream you had - hopefully it helped console you a bit.

I didn't, but my friend had a dream about my horse! The day after I euthanized my old gray mare, a good friend called and said she saw Lizzy in a dream. She was galloping through a grassy field. She thought it was very strange because Lizzy was darker in the dream. So I guess in horse heaven, they are all younger!

My friend wasn't necessarily horse savy, but she and Lizzy had a special connection. Lizzy taught her how to ride and a few years prior my friend had saved Lizzy's life. (She lived next door and recognized that "something wasn't right" one afternoon when I was at work and called the vet. Turned out that Liz was colicing).

I do, of my good mare Hennessy. We are always in this delightful old maze of a barn that I don't recognize. It's not fancy but it is clean and cozy and bright. I'm not doing anything special, just grooming her, and talking to her. I think it's her way of telling me that she is safe and warm and happy, and that I'll see her again.

I was looking for a horse that I rode for a few years that I just adored. I haven't been able to find him. It has been at least 15 years since I saw him last and it is like he just vanished. Anyway I had a dream about him and he told me that he had died and he was standing over where he was buried. I don't know if he is alive or dead, but that dream seemed so real.

I've had dreams about my horse Cowboy.

In one dream he told me what my other horses foot issue was. It was one of those dreams where Cowboy was actually the hurt horse, but well ,you know it was a dream so it was convoluted.

I find great comfort when I dream about him, like he is just checking in. :)

Your post made me cry. I have yet to lose a horse of my own, but I dread the day. So very cool that you "saw" Chutney's old friend...amazing.

Before I ever really got my own horse. The barn I rode at had the witchy little Bay Arabian Mare.

I ended up learning how to ride on her, she was the second horse I ever rode in my entire life. I loved that little mare, and she was mine... even though she belonged to the boys home where my parents worked. ( I begged for them to let me buy her, but no go ><)
Well after years of her being my horse... and I being the only one who could.. or would ride the little mare with a attitude. One day when I was riding her..... she bucked me off. And then my instructor went to ride her, and she bucked again. For a week she refused to be ridden with a saddle. I could climb on her bareback... but no saddle. Vet reports came back a week later that she had a tumor the size of a watermelon in her stomach.

Her previous owners , who donated her to the boys ranch , were to take her back and try to get it surgically removed.
So my heart broke when she left. Sad news came, that it would be impossible to remove without taking her life painfully. So the decision was to put her to sleep. But the owners graciouslly brought her back to the farm for one week so I could say goodbye. Then they took her home, and had her put down.

I later found out that Drukana was a World Champion Arabian Mare... with tons of championships and accomplishments. They buried her in her blankets, with the first set of roses she recieved. ( they saved them!)

I was a little girl then, but I always remember riding that beautiful horse, that I had a connection to!.
So though it really isn't a dream... the time I spent with her was. And she helped this little girl learn how to ride, and gave me the love I have today.
So even if no one else loved that Witchy little Bay mare..... I did. And I always have her with me in my dreams!

It's wonderful that you've had dreams of your old friends.

I had a dream that spooked me a bit a few weeks ago... I saw my mare, as a filly, running around in a field. She looked so cute!
(however, my mare is alive at the moment!)
So of course, I wake up in a panic that this was her way of saying goodbye to me. So I call the BO and frantically ask if she's ok. Boy, did I feel strange explaining why I was so concered.

That said, after she is gone, I hope to have dreams like you have had. I think it will make not having her easier.

I dream about my childhood horse a lot. The dreams are always very real to me -- very special moments together. But I don't assume it means anything except that that horse was very precious to me and was a very important part of my life.

I lost my childhood horse 2 and a half years ago. I was lucky enough to have a few hours alone with him beforehand to go through all of our memories. The fall before, my brother and sister in law were to have a baby boy. She went into labor too early and we lost Mason. A week or so after my old boy died, I had one dream of him. He was being led down our pasture path to the woods by a little boy. They both looked happy and just went on their way. It's the only dream I have ever had of either of them.

ABSOLUTELY. AND NOT only in a dream. I am sure people may think I'm nuts, but I TRUELY believe that our recently deceased friends reach out to us to let us know they are okay.

I lost my first love, Dancer, at age 26 in June. I had had him for 25.5 years. It was devestating and VERY quick. I really never got a chance to say goodbye - one minute he's fine - the next he's in a full blown colic and not really himself :( Ultimately I put him to rest.

For WEEKS afterwards I could feel his presence. I would swear I'd catch a glimpse of his white tail flying in the wind out in the field. It "freaked" me out so I started looking in to animal communication. I had previously spoke with Anita Curis, so I went to her website to make an appointment....I came across a book co-written by Anita. It's A Second Chance to Say Goodbye http://www.anitacurtis.com/publications.htm. The book is mostly about human communication, but there is a spot in there about animals.

Anyways, I got the book and started reading it. One night while reading it Dancer came to me and started flashing images of his last few years with me - NOT images I would have chosen. Stuff like me patting him in the stall, kissing him on the nose, my daughter burying her face in his chest, etc. At the same time I had this INCREDIBLY warm feeling in my chest, and the area was "brighter" even though it was completely dark as it was nighttime. After this I felt AT PEACE, and OVERWHELMING feeling of happiness and love. It was the most amazing feeling I have ever had, and I am so thankful for those moments with him.

Since then I have not been contacted by him, nor have I tried contacting him. I know we are both okay with what happened and we are both content with our lives as we know them now. I still miss him every day, but I do have a new friend that has filled my life with humor and amor ;)

As a WEIRD aside - a few nights AFTER this incident I had a dream about my grandmother. She was in her home, on the couch, in pain, and there was a strange man in her house. I called her the next day because I was worried about her. She told me everything was FINE. The next morning I get a call from my mom. Grandmother had had a heart attack the night before and LUCKILY my uncle was in from FL to realize she was in severe pain and get her med-flighted to the large hospital in OH.

Do I believe in this "stuff"? You betcha. Listen to your friend. It may be hard right now, but it WILL be comforting in the future knowing that she reached out to you.

Yes, I have dreamed about my "soul mate", but in the dream I had died, he came to greet me. Was the most beautiful summer day with the birds singing, magical.
I sure miss him, he was the greatest trail partner. Bestest horse in the world.

I put down my first horse 9 yrs ago after having her for 18 yrs (she was 33) I felt very guilty about my descision for a long time. About 6 months after her passing I had a dream she was in the front paddock grazing and she turned, looked at me as if to say it was alright and then galloped off. Since that dream I have had a sense of peace and no longer feel guilty. She was the love of my life, I grew up with her.

Shortly after my stallion Ahmed died, I had a dream about him. He was out in the pasture with some other horses that I didn't recognize. He stood on a hill with the wind gently blowing his mane and tail around. He looked back at me with such joy in his eyes that I was really comforted. The message that came into my head was "I'm doing great Mom, I get to be with the herd now. Don't feel bad and don't worry, I'm fine." Then he took off galloping with the rest of the herd. I feel that he showed up to comfort me, I always felt bad, that as a stallion, I couldn't just turn him out with the herd so he could just be a horse(I didn't want five mares bred!). He died so suddenly, that I really didn't say goodbye, I was so stunned and upset that I really couldn't think rationally at the time. The dream visit gave me a lot of comfort.

I had 2 horses 20 years ago that I sold when I had to leave the country due to a military relocation.
I believe that each came to me in a dream on the day that they passed.
