I am notoriously bad at keeping up an exercise regime, and after reading positive reviews, wound up getting a Wii Fit. I'm just starting to jump and canter, and was hoping that fellow COTH'ers might be able to recommend specific exercises on the Wii Fit which could help build up my core muscles and my balance. Appreciate any advice...thanks!! :)

How are you finding it so far? I also want to do some exercising to get myself back into shape for riding, because I can't afford lessons often enough to build up muscle that way alone, but I get bored easily. :)

I love mine :) I think yoga really helps you with your core strength/legs/balance. Yoga and the Strength Training parts would probably be the best although the hula hoop really really works your legs and hips too which is also great!
Wii fit is pretty fun, you can monitor your weight as well as set goals, and it monitors how much you've worked out and when. It also grades you on how well you accomplished the task (for example how centered and balanced you were during a yoga move).

Ohhh, I've been looking to get a Wii/Wii fit!!
Where did you get yours? Know of any good deals out there or are they pretty much all the same cost?

I think the Wii's have been coming down in price. As far as Wii Fit, I'm not as sure - my husband found it for me - maybe off of ebay? I think it pretty much is the same cost at any store, it was hard to find Wii Fit in stock whenever we got it which i think is why he grabbed if off of ebay.
Another nice feature is if you take a "break" from the Wii Fit it is sad and says "i havent seen you in x amount of days, its so good to see you again" or something along those lines, plus it asks you to encourage your buddy (if you have someone else's profile on your wii fit) and also when you gain weight it asks you to evaluate why (not enough work out, too much eating, etc) and tries to encourage you to do better.

Wii's are still $250. You can get them easily if you know where to look but the big box retailers (Best Buy, Circuit City, WalMart) are not stocking them in their stores at all for the most part. They are stockpiling them for a massive holiday rush. If you want Wii Accessories, order from the Internet. Do not go to the physical stores as they are only keeping the basic accessories on the shelves due to shelf space being precious.

I just got one for my son for Christmas, maybe I'll use it too! As far as finding one, at least here in CA all the big stores (Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Toy R Us) had a waiting list for them. Ebay has them but they are over $100.00 more. I went to our little Game Stop store and they had plenty at $49.99.

I love my Wii!! Wii fit is a lot of fun. I would recommend the yoga for your core. The balancing games could also help. Another fun game is dance dance revolution. It's a great cardio workout. I look like a nut doing it though!!

One of my friends and I were joking that with a Wii mounted in an indoor, we could have Wii lessons!
Sensors on each foot, each hand, the middle of your back, and your helmet...

I bought a Wii Fit in May and just opened/set it up yesterday. (I know.....) It's pretty cool! The balance exercises are really amazing. When you've finished each one, it shows you how well you did at keeping centered.

Its fun and better than sitting on your butt to play games, but I don't really see it as a tool to keep you fit for riding. I think other exercises are probably much better.
That said, I still find the Fit worth its $$. I was never into video games, but I like the interactive nature of the Wii and the Fit. Especially the skiing. It does make you very aware of your balance.
I bought my Wii the week before Christmas last year from the Walmart website. I bought the Fit a few months ago on the Walmart site too. There are Wii website trackers that tell you when they are in stock on line, then you pounce on the website and try to order it. It took about 5 tries to get my Wii, and about 2 tries to get my Fit. There was no way I would pay extra for it from eBay or other personal sale sites.
Oh, another trick I found on buying the Wii. Most sites ONLY sell them as $500 bundles, even if you only want the Wii. Go ahead and pay for the bundle, then return the UN-OPENED accessories for a full refund. I did that with both my purchases w/o issues.

I think one of the greatest things about the Wii Fit is the balance games- they are awesome! That said, I don't use it enough....

I haven't tried the yoga yet...have done the slalom and the tightrope for balance, the hula hoop, step aerobics (am too much of a klutz to stay in the right step!) and the jogging. I wound up buying our fit off of Amazon, and spending entirely too much, but have yet to actually see one available on a store website or in a store. I see as you do more exercises, it makes more available, but I still have a long ways to go. Will try the yoga and see how that goes. I know it won't get me fit for riding, but I figure it's got to be better than what I've been doing (nothing!), and maybe some of these games may actually help!
