I got an email that was circulating saying that Alysheba is not getting any turn out at the horse park. I know I saw a picture of him out. Anybody else get this? WE are supposed to call th horse park and complain of bad treatment......
sounds fishy to me.

Please...I hope to die and come back as a horse at the park. Those stallions are waited on hand and foot. Their stalls have direct access to very large grassy paddocks. At the 2004 USPC Champs and festival, whenever I could, I was parked outside of John Henry's paddock with my daughters mare letting her graze. Those horses have it good! Definitely fishy.

Great pains are being taken to ensure that Alysheba has a smooth transition from the hot, grassless environment of Saudi Arabia to a Kentucky winter.

From the Horse Park: Kentucky Derby winner Alysheba comes home to Kentucky (http://www.kyhorsepark.com/sub.php?pageid=121&sectionid=1)The 24-year-old stallion will take up residence in the stall formerly occupied by another Horse of the Year, John Henry, which is already outfitted with a heater, and well-suited for an older horse. Since Alysheba has been in a very hot climate for the past several years, it will make his transition more comfortable by ensuring he stays warm enough until his winter coat develops. He will live across the aisle from Cigar, the third-leading money-earning Thoroughbred of all time.

Mistreated?? Um, no. I'm guessing it has everything to do with transporting a 24-year-old stallion across the globe and into a wildly different climate. I wouldn't be turning him out willy-nilly either. Hell, I'd wrap him in bubble wrap and make meals of my fingernails for weeks if I had him.

From a complete novice no doubt  Just make trouble because they not care to understand nor take the time to learn.

I smell PETA behind it.

From Jack to the Horse Park I am betting on not mistreated. People should find better things to object to than an older stallion being acclimated to his new world. I smell PETA as well.

Well, the supposed email came from someone who allegdely sp?, works in the Hall of Champions.....
I always like to dispute claims like this is they are not true, so was hoping someone had seen him out recently. I know there were pictures of when he first came.
Oh well.... maybe more info will come out.

A friend of mine volunteers in the Hall of Champions every Sunday. If you go accroding to what he says, Aly's got to be living in horsey heaven as they've gone all out for this horse's comfort, including things like bucket color (he wouldn't drink from their regular buckets apparently) and the color of the floor (he didn't like something about the old floor).

He does have very bad arthritis apparently, so maybe he's not getting around very well in the cold and damp weather we've been having... esp since he is so acclimated to a different climate.

One thing that has been constant since I've lived up here and known several people who worked or volunteered at the KHP is that the horses there are *very* well taken care of, and the Hall of Champions horse's care is out of this world!

Thanks Spookhorse. That is the kind of info I was looking for.

Do you know Moonshine, aka Blue Moon Rising the Nokota horse? He used to live in PA. He's such a sweetie.

I'm pretty sure he and my horses share the same vet. I'll ask the next time I see my vet ;)

the title of this thread made me laugh.
As if, Alysheba would be mistreated at the KHP. Puh-lease.

Alysheba is in his stall because he wants to be. I've seen Hall of Champions employees leading him around his pasture to get him used to it. In addition, it's been pretty cold here recently (lows in the 20's) that I'm sure he prefers his heated stall (John Henry's old stall).

And if your vet answers your question, he doesn't have much sense of confidentiality. He should never let on who his other patients are, unless he has express permission to do so.

I've met him, he's a beauty! Course I do have a soft spot for blue roans of any breed having once been owned by a blue roan Standardbred mare

My friend got me a yearly family pass to the KHP so we've gone a few times this year. Moonshine is a great addition to the Breeds Barn :)

Can't beat ole Alydar for adding in a little spice. CanTango1 - who is your horse's sire? My guy is by Opposite Abstract (son of Alydar) and is a red headed pain in the rear too.

I was (jokingly) thinking when I saw the title of this thread that he was being "mistreated" because he was probably acting like a jacka$$!!!

On topic - I SERIOUSLY doubt that any horse at the KHP would be mistreated.

In defense of this vet, it's well known who some of his patients are because on occasion the local media gets quotes from him--yes, with the express approval of the Kentucky Horse Park--about his more famous charges at the park. It's very public knowledge that he does work for the Hall of Champions horses. So the mere fact that the poster knows he is Alysheba's vet doesn't in any way reflect badly on the vet in question; as you hoped, he has either been identified by the park or had express permission from them in every story I've ever read mentioning him in relation to a specific horse's care.

Like you, I wouldn't otherwise expect him to say anything about any horse he's treating. He's an exceedingly well regarded vet and a highly professional one.

Good Lord, lighten up! My vet is the vet for the whole KHP and it is no secret considering he gets quoted all the time (see any of the press for when John Henry was euthanized). I was only kidding when I said that anyway considering that I cannot begin to imagine that Alysheba, a crown jewel to the Horse Park, would be mistreated in any way possible. I'm sure someone just doesn't get why "that poor horsey can't go out on good grass all the time".

ETA: We posted at the same time. Thanks ArtilleryHill, he would definitely not talk about his clients considering that he is one of the most professional veterinarians I've ever met.

His Daddy is Alydeed, He has Alydar on the top and the bottom several times over, Could explain why he has no friends and why he is currently in solitary confinement :D

Yup, hes Red headed, Ive worked very hard on his ground manners, and have seen drastic improvement, Now I figure its just the way he is  Ive accepted it

Im not very good at reading the pedigree thing, but the stallion is on top correct ??

It is also possible that Alysheba has Cushings or Insulin Resistance and can't just be thrown out on grass for any length of time after years of being on no grass at all. Some horses can NEVER be out on grass. I'm sure if that were the case they'd walk him around like the ASB that hates to go outside. Lots of older horses prefer their stalls esp. in a new place.

As if any of those horses would be mistreated...

And here I was thinking this thread was about the old poster alysheba complaining about the mistreatment she suffered at the hands of all the liberal feminists on this board

I am pretty sure the horse Alysheba is in fine hands. If he has been in a desert climate they are probably doing their best to coax him OUT of his stall.

However, I would love to be a fly on the wall of the Hall of Champions when those old boys talk to each other about the "good old days". Can you imagine a cranky Alysheba to Cigar? "So you think you were FAST? Son, you don't know from fast "
