View Full Version : The Cocktail Party Thread (a.k.a. The "Jack This Thread")
i_x3_theponiez
Nov. 24, 2008, 08:28 PM
OK THIS IS HOW THIS THREAD WORKS!
Point is to add a post to this thread that takes whatever subject the previous poster discusses, and CLEANLY TRANSITIONS it into a new subject - kind of like what happens to a conversation at a cocktail party.
For example:
Poster 1 says - "I got a flat tire on my new car today. You would think that Lexus would put better tires on their cars."
Poster 2 says - "My dentist just bought a Lexus. He told me during my recent root canal. That was one painful procedure, let me tell you."
Poster 3 says - "Root canals are bad, but nothing was as painful as the surgery on my knee. I had shooting pains for a month afterward."
... and so on. The key is that every post must start out referencing the prior post in some way, but turn it into a completely new subject. This will be good practice for those that have not yet learned how to "schmooze" mindless, meaningless drivel at a party - an essential skill for life.
With that, have fun, and let's get this thread rolling with the following:
I'm planning a trip to New York City, I want to see the botanical gardens before the flowers all die.

I'm the world's worst gardener... my friend gave me a begonia for a housewarming gift years ago, and I put it on the windowsill out of the cats' reach... literally months later, I suddenly remembered its existence... there was not much begonia left.

If I go to the mall and buy something I want from the first store I visit, later on I will usually see the same item in a different store in the same mall for less.
But if I first walk through all the stores in the mall to check the prices, the item will usually seem to be the least expensive in the first store I visited.
Just why is that?

Anyone heard of the Flaming Dr. Pepper? Its a flaming cocktail said to taste like Dr Pepper, but it does not contain any soda. Its made by filling a shot glass 3/4 full with Amaretto, and 1/4 high proof liquor to make it flammable. The shot is then set on fire and dropped into a glass half-filled with beer. The flaming shot is extinguished by the beer, which foams up and is then quickly consumed. And apparently it tastes like DR PEPPER! i wanna try it

I have this green hose that always kinks back on itself and shuts off the water flow. Last week I got so pissed at it I cut it in half with a box cutter to use up at the barn to fill the large heated trough. No more carrying water buckets to fill the trough and the hose drains easily. Should have thought of this sooner. DH went looking for said hose to drain the excess water out of the pool. Told him that he must of run over it with the tractor because I found it cut in half laying on the lawn. :)

I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want - it to warm up so I can ride outside (not to mention not freeze in the unheated barn my horse is boarded in right now)

I never liked the Spice Girls and now I have that crazy song going through my head from reading the last post. Oh well, it's better than Mmmmmm Bop!

"Little Bunny Foo Foo
I don't wanna see you
Pickin' up the field mice
And BOPPING them on the head!"
I think I need another cocktail or two...

Speaking of crazy songs, a Christmas song came on the radio the other day that was so bad, I thought it was a joke. But they were serious! Because the next time I turned on the radio, they were playing that same terrible song. It's something like "We're having a Wonderful Christmas."
Hey you guys, can you come up with a Christmas pony song? Something that doesn't make me want to throw myself off a bridge?

I have never been to Columbia, but I was stuck in Brazil (Rio De Janeiro Airport) for 12 hours ... My Aunt went to Peru last summer... she showed me about 200 photos from the day she spent at Machu Picchu.... what a gorgeous place...

I had to stop in Lima twice for refueling, once on the way to Rio and once on the way to Buenos Aires.

I've never been to South America, but when I was 8 I went to Australia and my dad sent me home on the plane by myself! I stopped in Hawaii- that's the only time I've ever been there, lol!

Japan was a cool place to live... very expensive, but simply amazing... If you ever get the chance to go make sure you visit Kyoto... The Golden Pavilion is beautiful... there is another famous temple there too (can't remember the name right now) but they have an incredible horse painting on one of the interior walls...

Oh, yes aren't those horse paintings wonderful, they hold the brushes in their mouthes and paint away. I understand they can be quite expensive and and number of organizations use them as fundraisers.

George Stubbs was known as the horse painter; he published a book called "The Anatomy of the Horse". Apparently he'd hang dead ones from hooks and paint, then peel off a layer, then paint, then - well you get the idea. :dead:

The first layer I need to peel off of my horse is the fuzzy one on the outside. I clipped my pony in the beginning of october and his hair is already an inch and a half long again. I'm waiting for my blades to get back from the sharpener. I see your :dead: and raise you a pony-hair-covered :dead:.

It's funny - I'm a usually a spelling/grammar nazi, but I like to be silly every so often and spell things with an accent/twang. Er sum'thin, I rekkin.

With word auto correct and chat rooms these days it will be a wonder if the USA ever has good spelling and grammar again!

I always liked Kelsey Grammer. It was a shame when "Frasier" finally went off the air.

I'm going to be working my little algernon off doing barn chores for Christmas - I REALLY need the money. Hopefully the place I'm going to work will have a stall for Bluesy so I can work his little butt off and take lessons.

I love those! I always let my hubby pick, though, and he likes the regular ones with long needles. This year we'll only get a small tree because we won't be home for Christmas.

Oooh!
I've always wanted to visit the SRS in Austria!
Did you know you can watch schooling session in the mornings if you don't want to pay for the formal show later in the day?
