View Full Version : What Kind of Horse Is Your Life Like?

A reining horse, galloping off with you in one direction, only to skid to a halt, spin around and gallop madly off in the opposite direction, only to slide to a halt, spin in place 'til you're dizzy?
or ...

You know those ponies at the fair that walk around in circles endlessly?
Yeah, sort of like that. :sigh:

Man, that is what my life is like!

Hey, minis are cute. You can do anything with minis that you can do with big horses - except ride them.

True... didn't mean to bash the minis. I was thinking more along the lines of I'm so small that I'm useless, but people keep me around for entertainment value.:lol::lol::lol:

Trevelyan96, it's great you are cute and entertaining.
Surely you are NOT useless!
You must really be having a bad day.

My life is like the evergreen TB prospect. One step forward and then 8 steps backwards.

This last year or two, it's been kind of like Murphy Himself going cross country - we got it done, but I wondered how, I closed my eyes and prayed, and given my druthers, I'd probably pass on this ride again.
Ideally, I'd like it to be like a dressage horse, and actually, there are years when it has been. Notice that I didn't specify good or bad test, as I've had plenty of both, but there was at least an organization and a system and a pattern.

I think I'm one of those fair ponies too... I'm forever going in circles...

At the moment, like one of those ones that needs about an acre of bubble wrap and is still constantly finding some way to destroy things or need the vet. It's just one thing after another here these last few weeks!
Ah, well, when you feel like laughing or crying, always go for the laugh, right?!? Although, if anyone feels like tossing out some prayers or well wishes for my kitty who may have kidney failure or my horse who may be having issues with IR, they would certainly be welcome! And at least we now have working heat, always a good thing this time of year. Hopefully, those are my three bad things and I can get on with it.

Similar but with a slight variation. More like an Arab running an endurance race. Running around wildly, eyeing new places, galloping, trotting, climbing hills, exciting and finally at the end after a 100mi race realizing I am at the same place I started -wondering what it was all about!!:lol:
After a couple of races wondering if it would be better to just be a pony and go around or maybe find a nice kind lady to rescue me and put me out to pasture to live out my life (in my case retire )!:lol::lol:

To take the pony-in-circles image one step further: Sometimes I feel like one of those drafters that used to power the grindstone -- walking endlessly in circles and working really hard.

Ditto the TB that takes one step forward and 8 steps back. and falls a lot.

Well, I have a new job, its challenging, time consuming and all new.
I feel like a new prospect purchased from the dealers rather then a high end breeder.I don't have the Yale / Harvard back ground, but I have been tossed into full training and they are seeing how high I can jump!
I am certainly not an old campainer, or a blue blood raised for competition. No, I feel more like a grade backyard pet given a chance at the big leagues.

The chestnut mare who had a show career then raised a couple fillies, is still serviceable sound, suitable for kind beginning riders- though not tolerant of fools- but no longer worth breeding. ;)

I'm feeling a little more interesting than a fair pony, but I've still got some pretty serious routine going on. Call me the B show hunter packer. Circle. Outside. Diagonal. Outside. Diagonal. Circle. Rinse. Repeat. Occasionally throw in a single on the quarter line...

Mine's like some TB showjumper - flying around the ring and having obstacle after obstacle come up at you - they seem utterly impossible at first, but you're going so fast you have to try to get over them - and you do, somehow. You catch yourself on the other side just in time to turn towards the next one.

a bit like this, but with a pretty serious distraction issue, ie looking outside the ring at something scary when the next jump comes up, 2 strides out sighting on that, jumping and then back to looking outside the ring. Oh and defiantly TB because it is a bit erratic.

The 100 mile endurance horse, with a lot of muddy ditches and banks to traverse along the way.

I'd be the trusty ol' hack going steadily down the trail. Eyes forward, but hard to spook with a been-there-done-that attitude.

I'd be one of the overweight show ponies that you always see with the little kid that has no idea you don't have to KICK to move forward or haul backward to stop. Just wants a diet and a friendly pat.

prayers and jingles for your kitty and horse. I recently went through that with my older kitty, and a friend is dealing with IR with a horse.

I'd be the young OTTB filly thrown into the hunter world. Thought I knew what my job in life was then it changes and I'm suppose to do something completly different that I don't know how to do.

Most of the time - a horse dozing in a pasture which is also home to a large and psychotic horsefly. Mostly quiet and dull, with periods of frenzy.

lets see--how about a sturdy mare with a big butt and a kind eye, first owner kept her confined to arena work and tended to take his issues out on his mare.
Current rider has light hands and while he used to take the mare on some really crazy cross country stuff, now has her semi-retired with light work and lots of turnout.

I was a fair pony who walked around and around in circles, but every so often broke the lead and took off for a romp around the fair. Finally I jumped the fence, took off, and now I'm finally running through fields, jumping stone walls, and having a whole lot of pony fun :)

I'd be the steady eddy ol herd boss mare. Will suffer fools and kidlets for a good cause, but only til a point...then I'm all for self preservation. Would prefer to be left alone unless you have food. Don't really care what everyone else is doing...but seem to find myself with a herd who wants a leader. And for the right person? I'd do anything. But for now...throw me some hay and leave me the hell alone. I'm going where I'm going. You can follow, but stay outta my way.

Well right now I am a broodmare with a foal at my side. Unfortunately, my owners are making me work all day and nurse the foal all night.
