We talked to a trainer yesterday who has two geldings listed on our trainer listings:
http://fltrainerlist.proboards104.com/index.cgi?board=general

He absolutely cannot winter these two guys over, and needs to find new homes for them.

One is Jet G Star
http://fltrainerlist.proboards104.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=638

This is a truly gorgeous animal, with lovely movement. He would make anyone a wonderful riding and competition horse.

The other we just listed today - Carraigmor
http://fltrainerlist.proboards104.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=649

He is a sweet, timid guy, who needs some time off to heal. You should talk to the trainer about his injury.

We have two weeks before the track closes, not much time to find homes for these two. Please, if you have any room in your stable and your heart, make a place for one of these guys.

oh man that liver chestnut is GORGEOUS! I have neither a home or funds, but if I did, he'd be mine. I hope someone has a place for him!

So if the trainer needs to get them out of there, is he asking the prices in the ads or is he willing to just give them to a good home? If it's the latter, I might be able to help, maybe.

Louise
Nov. 23, 2008, 02:09 PM
I don't know if he'd give them away, though he might, but he probably would be willing to negotiate. The best way to find out is to call and ask. I know he really wants to find good homes for these guys, so who knows how negotiable they are?

I LOVE Jet G Star. He is definitely one of my absolute favorites of all the horses listed this year. Someone needs to go get him!!!!

Boy I wish I weren't full and bank account empty from barn remodel!! That Jet sure is nice. I'm willing to bet he's a HUGE mover. He looks like one of the nicest horses I've seen listed all year (anywhere and that's saying a lot ). Some kind person needs to snap him up so I'm not tortured by wanting him. Pretty please???

Oh why hasn't a new job found me yet. My resume keeps going out, and nothing happens. And until something happens to help the bank account more than my current job, I can't buy another :(. If I could, Carraigmor would come home to keep G company.

That Jet Star horse is lovely. I want him. Sadly, it isn't the purchase cost that deters me, but the stupid $1500/mo board bills that we face up here in Arctic Metro NY h*ll...

Nov. 23, 2008, 08:26 PM
Gosh. I have to stop reading these threads. I want my own horse and liver chestnut is pretty much my favorite color. I just don't think that I have the right experience and background for rehabbing an OTTB (or at least one completely fresh off the track). Still, it sure is tempting!

YES.

Drool.

Perhaps he'd like a Georgia zip code MS? ;)

I need to win the lotto, like, this week... so I can buy him, send him out for let-down and training for a year... and then bring him back to be my hunter. Ahh pipe dreams.

He reminds me of my favorite Big Red Horse.

Those of you who aren't sure about the costs - call the trainer and get in touch with Louise or the other FL gals!

I've said it before - it might be a whole lot less than you think to bring one of these guys home. I was amazed at how inexpensive it was to have Eddie vetted and shipped south. I was also able to have him picked up and stabled near the track until shipping could be arranged for a very modest fee. They make it very easy if you just make a little effort..... ;)

Jet Star is Horatious bred along the top line, and I know a lot of hunter and eventer people have a deep love for that breeding. Just ask Jeannette with her CANTER superstar, Larry (Last Train Home). He's a Horatious if I recall correctly. Super horses with super heart and a super jump!

But Larry can't jump :(

I am, of course kidding!

DMK is right, Horatious horses are LOVELY sport-types. Someone should snap him up immediately.

If the trainer doesn't find a home for Jet G Star before the track closes, and he can get him to Delaware Park, I'll take him. I know someone who has a private training farm right near there that can house him until I can go get him. I just can't take a trip up to Finger Lakes right now!

Louise...have you seen this horse in person and watched him move?

I agree with everyone else. Jet is GORGEOUS. He reminds me a lot of my barn owner's mare that I took cubbing. And if he's half as brave and as sane as she is, he'd be a bargain at any price. I hope someone here gets him and gives him a wonderful home!

BUMPING for these deserving geldings! Please, anyone who can help, call the trainer ASAP...as an OTTB "mom" (who got my guy based on a gut instinct, and have never regretted it), I can tell you it will be one of the most rewarding things you'll ever do.

OTTB's are NOT as hard to retrain as some people think. My guy has the best mind in the world and we did nothing special with him other than to gradually teach him to take weight and bend. I agree with other posters... once you've had one, you're a lifelong convert. Someone please go get Jet, he's stunning!

Okay from DMK's post it sounds like Jet has some super bloodlines!!

Mr. FG's only horse rule is-- one at a time! If I didn't have the old guy I'd bring Jet home myself.

I really hope a COTHer gets him so we can hear all about him...

Anyone have any idea how much it would cost, on average, to have one shipped about 250 miles??

OK, Larry's jump is outrageous! I want Jet G if he has it in him to jump like that, but no room at the inn!!!

The poor little bay needs someone to tell him the world is a good place - no need to be scared!

By the way Lousie, is Catlett Comet by Comet Shine? If so, when he's cleaned up he might look (and perform) like Courageous Comet!

The liver chestnut is a doll, and the other guy would be a lovely rehab project. And you know how I love those rehabs.

Alas, on the other side of the US and no extra $$, but they are darling and I hope they both find super homes.

PM sent equusrocks.

Lexus, that's the first thing I checked about Catlett Comet, myself. Unfortunately, he's no relation to Courageous Comet. But, you know, there is just something about that guy. He's won a quarter of a million, and, underneath the fuzz, he still looks pretty darn good. I just bet he has plenty of go.

Oh, I hope not! I know my friend spoke to the trainer yesterday, so maybe we're at the front of the line. Regardless, I firmly believe that things happen for a reason, so if he ends up with someone else, it was meant to be that way. If we get him, then he was meant to be here. :)

I wish you luck IslandGirl!

For the rest of you, there are, indeed, many others available that need good homes. We don't want to forget the mares.

Red Slice is just lovely. I first noticed her a couple of years ago, while listing another horse and have been following her ever since. She has a tremendous overstride, and a lovely personality. Sigh, I'm at work, and can't copy and paste URL's.

Twice is another lovely and sweet girl just waiting for her own person to love.

There is a horse for every taste available at the track this year. And, don't forget sweet Carriagmor. He really needs someone to take him home, and love on him.

How about posting this on equinesite.com too?

Also, is there anyway we can help make a contribution for board until homes are found?

CanterNE is a great group, and I encourage you to also get in touch with them to help.

Louise
Nov. 25, 2008, 07:56 PM
I haven't been to equinesite in ages. I went there, at your suggestion, and saw that there was already a thread started. Was that you, fivehorses, who started it? If so, thank you.

You asked about contributing for board for these horses. That is very possible for the horses that are in the Adoption Program itself. You can go to the tab entitled How to help Finger Lakes TAP - here http://fingerlakestap.org/help.htm and make a donation. They have 16 horses in the barn, and an over 40 horse waiting list, so I'm sure that they would greatly appreciate the help.

For the horses that are listed by the trainers themselves for sale, there is, unfortunately, no way to donate for their care. The best thing that we can do for them is to get them into new homes.

Lastly, you mentioned CanterNE. I agree with your assessment 100%. They are a great group of dedicated and helpful individuals. When we first started our program, we picked their brains, and they cheerfully let us. However, they have their own Suffolk horses to worry about, and I would not want to burden them with worry about our horses also.

Thank you so much for your very thoughty suggestions.

Two West is stabled at the pony barn, which is in a seperate area that you have to drive (or ride) to. We talked to the trainer last week about going over and getting better pictures, but she felt that she had enough interest in him to forego that. We'll check with her again this weekend, and see if, perhaps, he is sold.

Nov. 26, 2008, 01:05 PM
Inky Dinky is a very attractive gelding. When I volunteered at the end of year sale, he made the top three of the family I was escorting, though the teenaged daughter chose another gelding with a bit more chrome.... I can tell you that the trainer who has him is excellent to work with and incredibly upfront about the horses she lists with us. I have been involved (simply as an escort!) in the sale of two of her horses and wouldn't hesitate to buy one from her myself if I was in the market. I can also share with you that around the barn they call him "The Dinkster" and he was very sweet while we were looking him over. Give his trainer a call, she is great!!!!!

Louise
Nov. 26, 2008, 01:46 PM
It's kind of hard to give you any kind of detailed information on a lot of these horses. We see them for about five minutes, while they are pulled out of the stall, photographed and put back.

I can tell you that Best Crossing's trainer seemed very fond of her. She seemed like a sweet thing. She's only three, so I would suspect that she probably had some more growing to do.

Leah is a nice looking horse also. But, I didn't see her move, or get any chance to get to take a good look at her.

Sorry, I know that's not much help.

Hi Lucky 13,

Thanks so much for the info!

I called and talked to his trainer. You are right - she is very nice and seems very forthcoming. I am going to have a cousin who lives near Rochester go over and take a look at him for me.

Sarah,

Always happy to be able to spread the Finger Lakes Finest wealth. I just returned from the barn and loving on my two FL finds, had to provide their Thanksgiving treats. If only I were in a position right now for one more.....though it would be difficult to choose as there were two or three that really caught my eye at the sale.

Hope things work out for you and Inky Dinky, I would love to see updates here on COTH and again, I cannot say enough about the quality person his trainer is.....

I second everything that Lucky13 has to say about Inky Dinky's trainer. Every time I go to the track, I try to pick her brain about her management program. Her horses are always in such good weight and shape that they have the look to walk into a show ring: dappled, and well just plain happy. This trainer also has Man of Motion listed.

I am so in love with the pics of Man in Motion.:) There is such an elegance and aristocratic air about him. I almost made it to the track to look at him but I doubt the trainer would have gone for the offer I would have made for him so I didn't head over. The pics of him give the appearance of him being over at the knees but it could well be just the way the photo was taken. I do hope someone comes along and gives them all a good home. :)

We saw Jet today and he was lovely as usual. The trainer did indicate that he had heard from several people and was waiting for a call back from them. He too hopes for a great home for this grand horse.:)

I'm going to make a general service announcement but this is not directed to anyone in particular: Please... Not directed at anyone that I know but I need to say it.

We've had several trainers complain today that they've had appointments to show horses and then the potential buyers have been no shows and no calls...

Some of the trainers waited hours for people who never came out and never called. Some people call and call and call and call the same trainer and never even come out to see the horse. This is frustrating for the very busy trainers and gets us worried because if folks on the back-side aren't happy with our Trainer Listings then there is the possibility that we won't be allowed to continue to provide the service.

We want everyone to be pleased with the service because the horses need it.:)

I urge, beg and plead with any interested parties to please try your best to be polite and keep your appointments or call the trainer and communicate before they wait and wait and wait. It's extremely important. Please.

Louise
Nov. 29, 2008, 06:29 PM
First of all, please take heed of what maunder is saying. Remember that these trainers are very busy people. Please respect that fact.

And, we have two more geldings that need new homes as quickly as possible. The track is closing very soon, and these guys have nowhere to go.

On Line in Time is a good looking love of a horse. He seems to have a lovely personality, and he has presence. You notice him. His trainer has had him listed for an entire year, and he just can't keep him any longer. Please consider him!
http://fltrainerlist.proboards104.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=596

Ommadon's Call is another sweet gelding. His price has now been greatly reduced, and the trainer is willing to negotiate. He would just love a brand new home.
http://fltrainerlist.proboards104.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=519
