View Full Version : What level of a question would you consider this to be?

This question was posed at a local schooling facility.

Double down banks (3' drop)...placed as an in and out (1 stride) to a 4 stride bending line to an upright pretty maxed out Training table? At what level would you expect to see that at?
My guy thought this was child's play and I was just wondering where one would expect to see that as they progress through the levels.
Thankss!

In Area V?
Probably Training Level.

Here, for it to be Prelim it would be a bounce bank down. I think that goes for most Areas.

I'd agree, Training. For Prelim, a bounce bank down, or a skinny or corner instead of a table.

Thanks guys! That's what I was thinking....it seemed like a fair question for a confident Training Level horse but just too simple for Prelim. :]

Yeah Training. But it was kind of obvious, seeing as the table was a maxed out Training height table!

I cant say Ive ever done that specific question, but I have done one that went like this: skinnyish coop, 2 strides, double bank down with 2 strides between them. So pretty similar.

Training.

Can I barge in and ask about a different combination?

One stride up a very steep hill, training-sized coop at the top, roughly 4' drop on landing, one stride, then another fence on a steep hill with a drop on the landing.

That sounds more Prelim-ish. Depends on what "steep" means. :)

That's alot harder than most prelim questions. At the one star, the toughest question on course was slightly downhill approach to a brush, one stride and a small brush with a drop on landing, three strides to a double chevron. Depending on the steepness of the hill on both sides, that sounds more like a true upper level question.

I wish I could find a good picture...it was a bit steeper than this: http://www.plaindealingfarm.com/graph/a_editorial_photo/schooling/720/IMG_7244.jpg. There was no leveling out of the ground before takeoff, just up the hill (top was 5-6 feet higher than where we started) in one stride and over the fence.

There is a question sort of like that at Encore: log with a large drop on landing, down a big swale (about 8 feet deep, 4-5 strides across) then up a much larger hill to another log on top, and down the hill again.

I've attached a sketch, and also a picture of Gwen doing the 2nd part--although the weeds are so high you really can't get a sense of the size or slope of the hill. :( You can sort of get a sense that the landing is STEEP and DOWN. Fortunately you can't see my face!

Nice sketch, Deltawave! The combination I rode was similar, but both elements were as steep as the fence on the right in your drawing, and there was only one stride between them.

Yikes.

It certainly got me to keep my ass in the tack, which was the goal. I just had to do it before I got a chance to think about it, that's all. :P
