He's gorgeous. I know he used to be listed as a stallion, now gelded, so maybe that contributed? I just have to wonder! Especially after seeing folks looking at wispy and/or crooked OTTBs!

I dunno, but I wouldn't be heartbroken if he ended up in my barn! :D

He's ugly as sin, terrible conformation; send him my way and I'd be happy to hide him in some hole in the wall boarding barn.......

ROFL, Wigwag! I'd snap him up if DH wouldn't absolutely kill me... Somebody on here should definately go look at him, he's a looker.

Oooh. I wish ya'll would quit posting these CANTER cutie threads. They should be banned. I have enough willpower to not go to the CANTER websites, but I just cannot resist opening the threads. Oooh. If only I could afford to keep 2 horses!

Well, probably because he has been out of work for a year and half due to a knee injury and although he may be sound at rest I wouldn't buy a horse for eventing with that type of history. Also he is too short for me being only 15.2. Might work well for an experienced rider that is smaller and wanting to do dressage or lighter work. Otherwise he is nicley built and looks to have a nice eye.

Agreed. Thank you Purplenurple for saying exactly what I was thinking.

Gotta admit it, too. I was a little shocked by this post. OP, what do you see in this boy? Just curious. What are his strengths?

Well I'm not the OP and I didn't know anything about the injury or height, just based on the pic, I like his confo. He's much more my kind of TB. Stockier and hardier looking. I am not at all into the tall breakable looking ones with legs as big around as pencils. I think he looks a bit rough in the pic, not very neaty presented, but he's my kind of horse. :) Big engine, nice shoulder, nice looking legs, level topline, neck might be a bit short and ties in low, but so is my horses so I won't fault him there. No horse is perfect. But I agree, there are some horrible looking TB's posted and this one is really nice IMHO.

Agree with not liking him all that much. I could go into conformation (although I do think he has a great shoulder), but it's not so much that.
I just think he looks very...common. If I saw him in a herd of horses, nothing about him would stick out at me as something I would want in an event horse. There's no..."look" I guess, for a lack of better words.
Anyways, just generally unimpressed.

I think he's adorable! Looks like a pony for a horse-sized rider! Not upper level prospect, sure. They don't all need to be ;) The muscle bound look is my least favorite thing about him. But his legs are pretty straight, pretty clean, a nice compact back. His face is too cute. I read the OTTB threads here from time to time and see more potential purchases with long weak backs, post legged hind ends, tiny feet, miles long pasterns than solidly, usefully built horses like this.
Here are some other horses marked SOLD around his CANTER PA listing.

Not all bad, but I think he's the most nicely balanced of the group. But then, I'm not a rider/owner with upper-level aspirations as I know at least 2 posters here are.. I just try to find and reschool OTTBs to be useful, ammy-friendly types :) This guy's prior stallion-ness might hurt him in doing that, but you never know.

Because he's dead lame! I went to see him a few months ago, and the poor guy could barely trot. :(
He is a VERY nice looking horse though. They recently added new pictures of him (the one you posted), and they do him absolutely no justice.

You know what they say: One isn't enough and Two is way too many!
I have two of my own and can't afford either! AND I want more.. Help me Dr. Drew! there has to be a reality show for me!

Here's his pedigree. Although I don't mind his pedigree, he reminds me of another horse I know that was also constantly lame.
I am not a fan of his pasterns and I'd love to see a view of his legs from the front based on what I know of the other horse that is so similar. It might give us a clue as to why he is lame.

Aw, no wonder I love him. I adore Clever Champ (dam sire). I've had two of his sons and they had such incredible minds. They were talented and quite sound.
Sad to hear that he's lame. Did the trainer give insight? I had talked with him a year or more ago about other horses and he seemed upfront about their issues. Not that I'm buying now, my two keep me plenty busy and broke!

I would steer clear of the trainer if I ever went up there again. None of his horses were very nice (Ren Noc in a previous post was his. What a conformational disaster, but a sweetheart), and I just got a heeby geeby vibe off of him. He was going on about how sound Summation was, and then pulled him out lame. None of his were really 100% sound, and I kind of got the impression that he ran them into the ground.

OK I am gonna be very general here.. TONS of horses on/off the track are lame/sore/off/uneven and weak. .. specific injuries ASIDE,, many many of them just need TIME.. I don't know anything about the horses in question but time, proper shoeing, rest, correct work, and relaxation can do wonders...

That's sad if he's still unsound. :(
Let's not forget: lower level horses come in all shapes & sizes, and they still get the job done.

I know. It's just that this guys horses were MUCH more ouchy than any of the other horses I saw. And trust me, I saw like, 40 of them! lol

His neck is hidious. Ties in too low with a poorly made throatlatch.
His head is pretty darn ugly, and that is said by someone who loves huge noggins.
I don't like his girth, loin, or croup. Don't know why, I just don't.
Here is what tempts me!!! 3 year old mare
except for the striaght hind leg of course. But she used her hind end more then anyother hrose I'd ever seen therefore putting the flaw to ease.

Gosh purpl - you've already said you think he's ugly earlier in this thread. Do you have something personal against him? Geez. I think he is very cute. Not all horses are going to fit "your" idea of perfection, but they might be someone else's. I think you are being really harsh - especially if someone is interested in him and then sees your posts. These horses need our help, not us sitting here nitpicking them to death and pointing out all their flaws. In case you haven't heard, CANTER is trying to help these horses avoid the auctions and worse ... please stop with the nastiness.

I think Purpl was just explaining why she wasn't a fan of the horse because someone else had asked.
Purpl: That filly is really nice and not horribly straight in behind.

He is probably still there because there are things you cannot see in the pic that turn those who do go see away from him.
I don't like his hocks or back hip/leg angles for any serious jumping and not sure about the front below the knees. That I can see and would not waste the trip if I wanted to jump...oh, maybe if he was exceptionally talented temperment and rideability wise.
But those are unknowns while the conformation questions are evident in the photo and he is, apparently, lame from a still hurting knee injury.
Alot of the good ones are gone pretty quick, those that linger usually don't do so from lack of interest, something is wrong.

Wow, he does have a hideous head and neck for a TB. Good shoulder though.
There are just so many OTTBs to chose from and all around the same price. Why not buy the best horse you can buy? Sadly not all the horses can find new homes, and not every owner can take a chance on a horse that might not turn out sound.
