Please do! Lori needs a new transmission for her truck, feed (always!!!), vet bills (especially after Maresy's untimely passing ) and I two new foster kids (real human kids) coming in.
Hopefully, Mr. ChocoMare and I will be visiting with her on Thanksgiving :)

Ok, this really has me crying this morning. Thank you all. The last few months have really been tough ones but..................I know its not just on me. Its on people in general and many other rescues. Some of the bigger rescues I work with are closing there doors come january.
I have been laid off from my one really steady paycheck. That is very very scary. There sure isnt a lot of work in Summerville let alone a job that will pay me to go to it.
My part time job, fencing and rebuilding barns is not going too badly but...............now that the tranny went on the truck, I am unable to do the job unless people haul my eqt around. Some will but a big truck is required to move the machinery.
And I know, this too will pass. Nothing bad ever happens to me that doesnt end up being for a good reason. I just have to be patient to find out why. This is the first time ever that I have had an outstanding vet bill and not by a lot or for any length of time but.............I was scared. Very scared that the vet might tell me they wouldnt come out when I so needed them. Of course, it didnt happen like that, it never would I am sure but........................the vet bill comes long before a transmission.
Our economy is not just effecting rescue, I know it has hit many of you very hard. I am lucky, I really am. The farm is secure, yes it has a mortgage but, it is carried by one of my biggest fans. Blessings.
Every single day, I am getting three to four calls from people who cant afford to feed there horses. Sadly for them, its only the old ones they cant feed. If I discover they have young ones as well, I am of no use to them. Feed the old, sell the young. I am learning to say no. I can help them with blankets and how to feed and care for the old folks, but, I am not a dumping ground for the geriatric.
The farm is closed to taking in more horses except under extreme emergency. I cant take in more than I can afford to support on my own. With the loss of one job, that number could go down LOL.
I would like to clarify the addition of two kids ok. They are human. I know I call them all kids. There is a 12 year old girl who has lived the last year of her life in a hospital for lack of a home who will be joining me in a week. And a 16 year old boy who simply hasnt got a home and was living on the streets. Who knows how this happens but it does. And so, with Andrew as well, the house will be full for xmas. The barns are full, the house is full.
Thankyou everyone, an extra hug for your horses this morning please. Not all are so lucky.

Hi Lori.
I will hopefully be visiting Sunkissed Acres next week to take Dumplin home... and when I do, I want to drop off some things for you.
I'm short on cash this year, but could your 2 new family members use some very gently worn hand-me-downs? I have a younger sister and brother, and myself of course, and rather than take bags to goodwill, I'd much rather bring them to you, if you have a need.
Let me know (and even if you don't, I'll bring them anyway. You can let them sort through it and see if there is anything they want.)

If I get to be so lucky to transport him, I will be picking him up Saturday 11/29. Then he'll be spending the night at my family's place in Savannah, and coming north 11/30.
Still working out all the details of transportation method... but I'm sure we'll get it figured out!

Oh man, I am excited for Dumplin. I havent placed a horse in a while. And Choco, saturday might be a good day for you to come then will it not. If you want, I could make our thanksgiving dinner that day. I have an excuse now to cook turkey. YAY.

Lori's wonderful Secret Santas and I are fixing the vet bill thing. Imagine the vet's surprise when I called them on the phone! Not too many horses call them, I guess.
Anyway...it is a testimony to the work Lori does that so many support her. I think we will have the whole vet bill thing fixed by Monday or Tuesday. We had to make lots of calls and the cell towers don't work so well in my pasture, plus I have to fight my pasture buddy Bow for the phone (he likes dialing 1-800-COOKIES, go figure!), and then there's that no-opposable-thumb-on-the-hoof thing, and I have to use my muzzle.

Awwwwwwwwww this is so cool you guys, thankyou. MTR, contact Cloudy and Callie, but they are in Savannah. Not sure how far that is from you but...................Cloudy is sending a saddle for one of the kids, our SS gift. She is so so so excited.
I went in to the vet clinic today for some SMZ's for Angels cancer in her gutteral pouch. It lessens the swelling so she can eat hay, and for Mr. Lymphangitis himself. They told me not to worry about my bill and just kept smiling away, like they had a secret. Guess they wish they did. I have the SS's and you guys, I am just so so so grateful. Even a small bill at the vet clinic worries me. You just never know when you are going to need them, for me, when I least expect it.
See, everything bad that happens, brings me something good. Dumplin and Tito got homes. Thanksgiving is happening with some of my favorite people. Hooray, turkey coming. I love turkey.

Any one heading up from the Savannah area to Lori's?
Cloudy can take the saddle to his barn, he's in Guyton 46.5 miles from Savannah, west, and if someone is driving up, I'll throw in lots of stuff for horses and humans.
PM me if you are near Savannah and Guyton and heading up there.
Otherwise I'll UPS the saddle and send the other stuff up later.
Gas-wise, Aiken is too far for me to drive in a diesel truck. UPS for the saddle is cheaper than diesel.

Hey Lori,
MTR is great, she and I are going to try to coordinate and meet in Sylvania this SAt. for a saddle exchange.
And I've got the vaulting surcingle that I bought 3 yrs ago when the Portly Pinto Pony gained too much weight, and I didn't use it to ride bareback.
You can sell it if you don't use it, I bought it off ebay from a nice lady in Tenn. new.
I'm going to go digging in the laundry room tonight and tomorrow and load it all in the truck.
hopefully this will get the saddle to you next SAt.
no girth with it as I used the same girth as my other saddle. This stubben has the flaps too short for me.
this is soooooooooooooo nice of MTR!

I PMd MTR but haven't heard back yet. I took a quick mental inventory and I guess at local flea market prices the load of crap I have is worth over $200. In a shop maybe closer to $2,000. If someone had a truck and could take a few pieces of furniture and a few saddles then maybe more on ebay. I know a few of the books are worth several hundred dollars each.
I also have piles of educational materials for kids like teachers editions and work and lab books. Mostly social sciences and hard science stuff.
I have no idea how much gas is now but you would have to decide if its worth the gas to come and load up a truck and then you'd be able to pick and chose what your customers will most likely buy.
News flash. MTR did call and we have it worked out. She will discuss with you what your needs are and what I should send. Sorry to be so dense, but what else do you need besides cash? I have a week to go collecting. . . . .

Don't feel uncomfortable, but although I have no plans of dying anytime soon, I still may do that anyway. I do estates so this is just shop talk for me, no depressing stuff.
Can I sign you up as the benefactor in my estate plan for all my crap? Its not worth much, but it would be a burden to my parents to have to dispose of it all and its almost all useful stuff that will end up in a dump.
No charities around here come and get estates and I'd rather leave it a good equine rescue.
I guess a good "junque" shop could sell my crap for $5-10K and nobody in my estate plan has any use for a Jon Deere or horse stuff.
If you knew in advance I could even help you recognize the good from the truly yard sale materials:)

hahah this is Summerville hon, there is not a thing wrong with yard sale material LOL. I would be honored if you left us the benefactor of your estate. When I did my will, I also realized that most of what I own is just a burden to someone else as well. It can all go to the store to continue caring for the kids. Isnt it funny how we spend all our lives collecting this stuff when in the end, it hasnt got a purpose anyhow. Now, if I can only get the children to understand this. It took me a lifetime of learning so why not them.

Yippee, aren't Morgan and Mr. Mustang great? They were running ahead of time, I was supposed to be an hour early but big wreck in Rincon closed down 5 (all) lanes of 21, so I had to detour and was on real time but they came south of Sylvania and met me before I got to Newington. And they were terrific to come south and get all the stuff.
Glad they got by your place. Cloudy was at barn hanging out, so I got to deliver for him. Longleaf you need another horse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS. My BO wants a lesson horse that can be ridden by a husband and daughter who don't want spirited, a horse like Cricket and Beaver were at Sa Hi , if anyone is old enough to remember them. So if anyone has a sound good horse, BO wants it, no color preference, etc. Barn is in Guyton GA.
PS Lori, the gidday up girls soaking boot needs to have the wrapped part in the front, not the back. That was one of my issues with Cloudy (the other being he thought I was wrapping a bucket on his hoof), so put the solid part at the back of the hoof/leg, and then wrap the front open part up. I'll try to find the instructions, which I didn't read till after I tried to soak that hoof.
Now to buy Cloudy the large Davis boot. Sigh! I want another smart ottb mare like Callie was.

Wow what a day we had in the car!!!!!!!!!!!
We went to Augusta to meet LongLeaf. I think she is getting the arab/friesian filly Lori....You are welcome..LOLOLOL....yes she needs her. She can train it her way. OLOLOLOLOLOLOL She had a huge box of stuff waiting for Mr Mustang and I. She looked surprised as we walked through her grooming salon. It was a nice and clean little place. It took two of us to carry the huge box to our car. It wasn't too heavy, but that is a big box! Thanks to LL for her huge box in the back of my car!!!!
We then headed south to Waynesboro then towards Sylvania. We were running further ahead of schedle than we usually do and continued our drive to Newington....I talked to CC and we were within minutes of each other....She flashed her lights and pulled over. We pulled a u-ey and pulled in behind her. I can't give away all of the details of what she gave us, but I think SKA will be very pleased. Thanks to CC for her generous donations!
We then hit I-16 to my parents. My mom had 2 bags of very nice clothes and shoes and purses etc that she was gonna take to good will or salvation army. I talked her into giving it to SKA instead. Thanks MOM!
We then headed to Juliette for my brother's 40th surprise birthday party....we stayed until 8pm then headed home. We got settled in at 1115pm.
Needless to say, we are tired of our car, but the trip was wonderful. It is amazing what a few people can do together to change the life of others.
Pass it forward!

Hey Lori,
Would something like old prom dresses sell in your store? I have a bunch of them just sitting in my closet... I bet they would...even if people just wanted to buy them and alter them for dress up clothes for the little ones... or if you want to do that for any little ones you have staying with you over the years.
I'm bringing a giant tupperware full of horse and human stuff...
If equineart doesn't need me to pick any critters up, I'll probably wait until I come back down in Dec, because I will have tons of free time during that trip. I figure you'd be ready for a new load of stuff 3 weeks later, plus I can collect even more.

Hey Finderskeepers, if you are going in December, I can get up some more stuff and actually have it ready to go by then. MTR picked up my stuff to go with her, and I left some stuff out.
Since you won't be going this tine, maybe I could ask Lucy if I can leave some stuff in Dec. at her Bluffton tack shopt for you to pick up then?
Meanwhile, I'll send you some info on our 52 acres in Early Branch/Grays. Get one of your friends to buy it and I'll have more $ for rescues, and more money to get a couple of old ottb mares for me to ride and for Cloudy to hit on.
That was great of you to offer to transport the adopted horse btw.

I gotta a box of things, just some coats, jeans...things like that. And some goodies for Lori and all the kids. We are doing some baking today and then they are off to the PO on the way to GA.

I will head over to Sunkissed in December. I will be down south for an entire week starting 12/20, and will have a few free days. one will be a trip to Sunkissed, if Lori will have me ;)
So if you can get the stuff to Bluffton, I can get it to Lori. And who knows what I'll be coming back with...

3. Pour mixture into a 2-quart baking dish. Bake at 350 for 1 hour or until top is a light golden brown.

hahha you would be surprised. LOL I have a 17 year old who hasnt gone to school for years. I have her convinced that graduation, prom dresses etc. etc are too much fun to not go to school. And so, she has some catching up to do, we are going to beg the school to let us in LOL.
Funny, after the first time I purged the house and took it to the store, I stopped missing all that junk and love to take it in. I just dont understand why I keep letting it build up again and again and have to take it all in again.
We will love your pretty pottery for you. hahhhaha. there are times though I get stuff that I dont understand why people gave it up. Bibles with life histories in them. Photo albums of people long gone??????????????? Some history should remain in the family.
If I think it is an accident, I put it in the store where the rightful owner might claim it again.

Nov. 26, 2008, 06:53 PM
Its stupid, but if something has a value because it is well made or interesting or historical I feel like I have to give it a good home because its underapprecated.
Its not the money, its knowing some artist or person's treasures do not deserve to be thrown out just because its not Fenton or they do not have a book that tells them its valuable. Too much PBS for me I guess. It all has a story and its all worthy of a good home:) I think that's why I wont sell it for pennies because it will just end up in the trash later.
This is the perfect solution. If my junk gives its life for a horse in need it served a wonderful purpose.
The saddles are really fighting hard to stay in my closet though. They are 16.5 inch saddles. There is no way on earth my butt will ever fit n a 16.5" saddle again, but what if they get a bad home! You care and clean and ride in a saddle for 25 years and you get kind of attached to it. But a saddle can pay for 5 bags of feed and a coggins.
I will keep the LARGE crytsalline pottery collection, but most everything else that can fit in MTR truck needs to go. And the rest I can't even reach now will go on the next trip in a few months. Its not wall to wall around here, but there is a room where someone crammed all my stuff that I can't even reach the far wall. There is so much stuff I have an actual file cabinet I can't find in there somewhere.
When you can't find a piece of furniture you know you have a problem!
I will avoid yard sales and thrift stores and try to get past refilling the place up with more crap. I swear:)

It doesn't have a makers mark or number on it....I guess it is an import.....darn good one even if it is an import...Haven't ridden in it. I also have a McClellan saddle my brother gave me. hehehe I think there is something about middle age that finally says, we arent taking it with us when we go. There are two things in this entire house that I would put forth any effort to save in the event of a fire. The cat and the dog. Nope, not even pics mean anything. The pics in my mind can never be erased. After losing everything I owned once, except for the lives I am responsible for, I realized, anything else is unimportant. Its stuff, its nothing in comparison. I never lock doors, locks are for honest people. If i have something and you want it, please take it. If it will bring you any measure of pleasure, I want you to have it.
Bizarre attitude maybe but..................I am no longer tied to a house full of furniture I cant take with me, and I dont worry one little iota that it might one day be gone. Just dont take a life.
hahah oh yes, I know the meaning of freedom. Its no joke, I buy furniture for the dogs. If it fits them, if they are comfy, it works for me.

Wow, what a weekend! We had a fast and furious trip to Summerville! We arrived safe and sound at SKA right after noon, like noon ten. We stopped by the thrift store. We walked back to the tack section where we quickly realized that we had more in our truck than Lori has in her store....we had a total of 5 saddles, 2 surcingles/cavessons-lunging kind, and several boxes of tack and wonderful items. I only went through the two barrels filled with items. The amount of stuff that Equinelaw, Cloudieandcallie and Longleaf gave us is amazing. There is another load or two waiting for us to go back to Lori's again.
Oh, everyone is asking about dinner. There were two turkeys, one honey baked ham, masked potatoes, cranberries, sweet potatoes, squash, rolls, ribs, stuffing, and a multitude of desserts. Lots of people were there. We had a wonderful time. We met several of Lori's friends and fellow Cothers. We met Lori's daughter and foster kid. Both of whom are beautiful young ladies.
Lori's herd was wonderful at dinner last night.
Heart has free roam of the grounds. She is pleasantly plump. She told Mr MTR that she is very happy there.
Dumplin is the cutest little thing I have ever seen. He is Mr personality. He can't wait to go home....to his new home that is...he is adorable. Everyone needs a little horse.
Miss Katie-Scarlett is amazingly sweet...as usual. She is beautiful. She would be a wonderful driving mule or an endurance mule. She is so personable.
Miss Frabian is very confident. She is a beautiful bay. She has spots on her back right fetlock. It is so cute. She is confident and smart. She knows she is a pretty girl and seems to want to show everyone how gorgeous she is. She is an awkward teenager know...once she grows into herself, I think she will be one of the prettiest horses around...her mane and tail are luxurious and thick. Wow, what a looker.
We stayes at the SKA Inn last night. We slept better than we usually do away from home. Miss Paris is a delight. Miss Pedals is the funniest cat I have ever met. We got up this morning and were out of sight before Lori herself woke up.
Many thanks to equinelaw, cloudieandcallie, longleaf for their donations for us to take. Thank you for Chocomare for cooking so many scrumptious veggies. And a sincere, warm and fuzzy, heart melting thank you to Lori for having us. We feel that we owe here so much....as we have Mr Dali, aka Racing Turtle, in our lives....he is amazing.

My turn to report LOL. I have not been on this pc for two days now. Wow what a meal we had but let me tell you, we almost polished off two turkeys hehehehehe and I cant wait for the turkey soup and sandwiches. We had apple cobbler and warm chocolate stuff and there was none left lol. We were piggies.
MTR and Chocomare have both always warmed my hearts. Talk about loving personalities, great sense of humor and yesterday I realized, there husbands look alike too. hahhahaha And both husbands have humungous feet. how about sz 15's ok. And you know what they say about large feet. heheheheh both woman are very happily married LOL, childless, and much much in common. Its funny.
Now, let me tell you about the stuff. Whew I cant. hehheheheh it was hilarious. there was so much stuff, and we just kept unloading and unloading and unloading. MTR and I were going through bags and boxes quickly just going ga ga. LOL Friends came today to go through the equine books and collectibles hahahahahah. It was so funny.
There were some valuable things there for the rescues. The absorbine masks, priceless with the eye problems I always get in. Rain sheets, bridles and bits.
Cloudy sent us an awesome awesome dressage saddle. The riding instructor told me that little Hannah showed up for a riding lesson inspite of the rain. hehehehh she just sat in the saddle LOL. MTR said we would love it and she is absolutely correct. It was unreal, very very well cared for.
thankyou Cloudy, I couldnt be happier. And the soaking boots, those are a real blessing here. Heart will love you forever, blue feet or not LOL.
You guys missed a good time. Good food. Today, I went and visited little Andrew and took him some badly needed new clothes and shoes. It was rainy as can be so, the horses were all up anyhow for the day. Tomorrow I will be cleaning for many many hours and on Tuesday, setting all this stuff up in the store. Yahoooooooooooo. I have two friends coming with trucks to move it all hahahhahaha
You guys, this was awesome. Absolutely priceless. That so many of you pulled together for this just warms me to the toes. And MTR, I am glad you liked Pearl even if she is a bit brazen. LOL I just never quite figured out the cross but was horribly worried she might never get adopted inspite of everyones interest. Glad she had another persons perspective altogether, thankyou.
Much love to all from both myself and the kids. In the end, they appreciate the humans in there lives. Bless you all.

He gets extra kudos ;)
Always nice to see Randy & Tom, too, as well as Dot.
Missy dog was one pooped puppy! I don't think her head came up off the seat until we went over the tracks down in Rockmart. She happily ate her supper when we got home and then went right into her crate for a long night's sleep. All that lovin' just wore her out

Lori, I too lost my job (of 22 years!) last month and am freaking out about it. I need to work from home due to medical issues, and found this great website with lots of part and full time jobs that you can do from home - http://ratracerebellion.com/CS_Comparison.html . We have 10 horses of our own and 4 boarders, so I am worried. Unfortunately (or furtunately at the time) I made a lot of money and am now in the position of having to take a huge paycut, but hopefully things will work out and we will be placing at least some of our horses elsewhere. Very sad times for many.
Best wishes to you and the horses and PLEASE don't take on more until things are better for you - we can tend to overextend ourselves and it only hurts the ones already in our care. I hope you find a home for the mule and any others that are ready soon....

I'm putting my money in the hat . . . and some Southern States feed bag 'proofs of purchase' . . . so who's next. . . . . :)
This is a silly question, but what are the proofs of purchase for?? Do you get a discount for turning them in?? I feed SS 12% textured to the farm and go through about 6 sacks a week, so I have been chucking out a lot of Proofs.

PDR, the proofs of purchase on the back of SS feeds are worth .25 a piece to our rescue. We bank them with SS and then they send in money as we request it. We use the coupons in order to pay our huge huge yearly vet bill in the spring when everyone gets shots, coggins, toofies floated or removed as necessary LOL and whatever bloodwork and what have you needs doing.
Those little coupons have a way of really adding up and they take the worry of how I am going to pay the yearly vet bill of thousands of dollars.
If you would be so kind as to clip and send them, I sure would appreciate it and thankyou.

Lori--I wish I had known about the Proofs thing earlier, but now that I do, you can bet you will be recieving all my proofs I can cut off. Like I said, it's all I feed here, and I go through 6 sacks/week.
