Does anyone know if there will be an Area VIII Annual Meeting, this year?
Last year, it was held at the Columbus Zoo. Kara Andrew did a great job organizing it. I have not seen anything about one on the Area8 web site.
MSEDA already has there date set and speaker, so what is up with Area VIII?

I think it was that way last year too- MSEDA promoted their meeting earlier. There was an Area 8 meeting at I believe Hearth Stone in 2006, nothing in 2007, then the meeting in Columbus last year. Maybe it's just an every-other-year thing now?

I was just wondering the same thing and went to the area website to check but didn't see any announcements. So I took a peek at the Area 8 Leaderboard and saw several riders I know high up in the standings. :) Would love to see them receive their awards! Last years meeting was absolutely great, Kara and her gang did a wonderful job. Especially liked when they brought in some critters for us to look at.

Horsecents,
For my own personal reasons, I hope that they don't skip a year. ;)
However, it must be a huge undertaking to put on something like that, so I can see that it might not happen.
I am planning on attending the MSEDA meeting. It should be a lot of fun. If the MSEDA can be organized enough to put together an Annual Meeting, one would think that Area VIII would be able to get one together, too? Maybe Area VIII should elect an Annual Meeting Organizing Committee?

I'm sure "they" would love volunteers to organize it. Call the area chair.

Am confident for several reasons that there will be one. I don't have anything official, but I'd bank on early February. Agree with Shannon -- volunteer, and it will get done!

Thanks, Nancy.
I have contacted Kara. She is happy to have the help.
So far, I will just be getting donations for the silent auction. If anyone has anything to donate, please pm me. I will be contacting the local tack shops.
Do you think that anyone would be interested in donated lessons? What other things would make people bid?

I saw the MSEDA announcement too. It said when and who but did not mention where. Anybody know?

I thought that I read somewhere that it was going to be at the Crowne Plaza. Isn't that where the Safety Summit was? Maybe David O'Conner prefers to stay there?

Glad there will be one when someone I know does well! I had a great year...and it was the ONE year that they did not have a meeting! Sad! So, have double the fun for me!:D

No, not the Crowne Plaza. It is January 31st-February 1st at the Hyatt Regency like last year. David O'Connor will be speaking Saturday morning followed by the awards luncheon (instead of an evening dinner/ awards ceremony) and the "first ever MSEDA Gala" Saturday night. The annual meeting will be Sunday morning.

Back to an earlier question of mine: What kinds of items would you like to see at a silent auction?
I am thinking: tack, lessons with well known trainers, event entries, gift certificates to tack shops....
All ideas are welcome. :D

Talk to our area's Succeed rep. Since Succeed sponsors the Area 8 Succeed Challenge, they might be willing to kick in a month's supply for the auction (they did at the auction last year). Also, you might talk to some feed stores about grain donations, wormer, grooming supplies, fly spray, etc. Maybe some artwork too? A capping fee to one or two Ohio or Kentucky hunts?
