The makers of Magic Cushion were serious when they said on the label to "use gloves to apply". As usual, I scoffed at their recommendation.

Well, 12 hours and 2 showers later, plus soaking my hands in baby oil and scrubbing with a nail brush, I've still got the stuff stuck in the creases of my hands.

CanTango - I never even though of that. I washed my hands immediately after I used it, but was still left with some residual ick on my hands.

Alexie - it is a hoof packing. :)

I learned my lesson many times that I should use gloves after getting Coppertox on my hands and for a week my mouth tasted like I had been eating pennies :eek:

I can not even explain the taste of DMSO after it gets on the skin :dead:

Try rubbing alcohol to get rid of the Magic Cushion.

My farrier got magic cushion in his mouth. He said he couldn't feel his lips or tongue for days.

My horse got it stuck on his elbow and then a handful of hay got stuck to that. Actually pretty funny to look at :D !! It was impossible to get off though. I can't imagine trying to get it off your skin. I think rubbing alcohol is suppose to help. I also heard WD-40 but have not tried it.

Oh no!!!! What happened? As a fellow blonde, I feel I must know.
Swiped my hair out of my face whilst doing da' feet.
Friend, a notorious joker, walks by and says "Hey nice purple stripe in your hair"
I respond "Hardee, har, har"
She says "No really" but I just can never take her seriously, sorry... well I guess really it's that I do not know WHEN to take her seriously.
After a few more "No seriously"s, I went to the bathroom and lo and behold.

It would not wash out. I eventually gave up trying to grow my hair and chopped off the offending splotch along with the rest of it.

Thanks for the warning! I'm one of those that almost never puts on gloves on.

You know the funny thing about DMSO is that I have never gotten a bad taste in my mouth because of it, the smell doesn't bother me and nobody's ever commented on any kind of lingering smell afterwards. However, I so much as get a drop of liniment on my hands and they blister (still don't wear gloves though...old habits die hard )

So how does everyone like Magic Cushion? I have always used Forshner's but the individual packets that Magic Cushion comes in sounds so much easier and more appealing.

Good Stuff, I use it after a hard jump school or a show if the ground is hard. I also pack his feet after getting done ( he a delicate wittle flower ) drawls the heat right out !!

Well...I guess we'll find out! It was my first time ever using it last night.

As an aside - I got the tube of the "individual size" baggies, it's quite convenient, although I'm sure it's more expensive than buying the tub (which I intend to do next time). It's all the tack shop had last night when I ran out there. Handy - and in all actuality, I probably could have used 1 little pouch of it for both front hooves.

Will WD40 sprayed on your hands get it out? It works on pinetar on horses and on just about everything else.

Nail polish remover works to remove Magic Cushion.

Magic Cushion is wonderful. The tub is WAAAYYY less expensive than the individual servings. As said before, rubbing alcohol gets it out as does Skin So Soft.

I've always used gloves with DMSO, so I've never gotten the DMSO taste.

The WORST thing EVER though - WrapLast. My horse used to be hell-bent on undressing himself every night - sheets, blankets, wraps, anything. Drenching with WrapLast seemed to do the trick. I managed to inhale the stuff every time I used it, even if I sprayed it in a well-ventilated spot and didn't breathe. One time I got it on my hands and didn't realize, and rubbed my face. I hopped in the shower a little later - and seriously thought my face was melting off. It burned SO BAD.

I hate WrapLast. I'm so glad my horse doesn't eat clothes anymore.

I use them for two slightly different purposes. I use Forshners for the overall health of my horse's feet, when they are getting too dry, or after a lot of time on concrete or asphalt (at some show venues). I use Magic Cushion when my horse seems foot sore, or when I sense some inflammation that I want to draw out.

Overall Magic Cushion is more "powerful" than Forshners so I save it for those "special" (for lack of a better word) occasions!

A trick when using Magic Cushion: Either pack in a stall or with a couple handfuls of shavings in a bucket next to you. When you are trying to get the Magic cushion to stay in the hoof rather than on your gloves, finish the last part of the packing with a fist full of sawdust. Keeps it from sticking to your hand and from coming out when you put the hoof down! That stuff is brutal!

I hate DMSO! I actually fainted once from the smell of it. I was at the Cornell Vet Clinic with my horse and they had been giving DMSO to him and after standing their holding him for a while I guess I fainted because the next thig I remember is sitting on a bench petting a cat! And yes, everything I ate after that tasted like DMSO.
