Charlie, registered name Debonaire is a registered Trakehner chestnut gelding. His dam is a Swedish Warmblood and his Sire was a Trakehner. He is 16 1 hands and is 11 years old.

This is why I am giving Charlie away…

I purchased Charlie about 3 ½ months ago from a girl who had purchased him two weeks prior. The girl told me he had behavioral issues and would try to bite and kick at her particularly when she was feeding him. She told me he has done well in Second level dressage and is wonderful to ride. She also told me he was a cribber. She also told me that she wasn’t aware of him having any soundness issues and that he had been shown in eventing though not by her.

After looking at Charlie and seeing his behavior problems towards this girl, I felt that I could possibly help him and so I brought him home. Charlie is very interesting. His behavior has improved tremendously with me and other confident horse people, however he still gives the timid folks a bit of “tude”. His level of dressage skills are not what they were cracked up to be either. He has been very good with me in a large outdoor arena. I have taken him on only one trail ride and he was very right brained. This is what made me decide to sell him.

Charlie needs a confident understanding human. I know none of us want to get hurt on our horses and I feel that Charlie is not a safe trail horse for me and I don’t have the recourses or time to work on these quirks. I’m not really worried about the behavior issues because I can sit next to him, make him wait for his food, etc. I’m just not up for dealing with the trail issues and I was told he was great on trails.

Charlie wears a miracle collar which takes care of his cribbing issues. I recently took him to UC Davis and was told that he is in good internal health. I haven’t experienced any lameness issues with him but I did not get a pre purchase exam.

Hopefully I summed Charlie up.
I am located in Napa, CA (northern CA).

Here are a few pictures of Charlie from about 1 month ago. He had lost a few pounds in these pictures because he had to fast for 24 hours the other day prior to getting his stomach scoped. I wanted to make sure he didn't have any ulcers. We then went to the beach the following day so he hasn’t been able to catch up on his meals. I also pulled his shoes right after getting him so that his feet could get stronger and healthier. I use easy boots on him which work great. I also found out more in regards to his past…

Charlie is very sweet with other animals; he just has a hard time trusting humans and is defensive towards them. I have been told by previous owners from years back that Charlie never had these issues. Owners from the last four years say otherwise. I would say Charlie is a RBI/E. Him and I get along great and he is as sweet as can be. I keep a carrot stick by his gate though in case other's need to go in with him because he makes threats at people who don't greet him properly or that don't know him. I felt like I could work out the ground issues but I am recovery from my third major reconstructive knee surgery and I am not 100 percent confident with riding again yet which is not a good thing for Charlie because he needs someone confident to help him be.

I really feel bad for this horse because something had to of happened to him. Please call me if you have further questions. I will be completely honest with you. Thanks

He is gorgeous!! Again, I wish I lived closer and didn't have my hands full as it is. He will be spectacular with some time and patience. Someone needs to grab this boy!

Thank you so much for your help. Charlie has found a wonderful new home and since I have had him his attitude towards people has really improved. I'll keep you posted.
