Hi All,
I have one horse and he needs some form of enterainment! He only gets to go out on grass 3 days a week and the rest of the time he stays in a 130ft x 85ft dry lot with access to a bedded stall and has plenty of good hay. I ride 3 to 4 days a week. But he is bored..starting to chew wood and dig holes ...basically bored. So any suggestions would be great!
Thanks

A lot of horses seem to love playing with traffic cones - mine, not so much.

Could you get him a small companion animal - goat or sheep?

Mine enjoy playing with empty gallon orange juice jugs and milk jugs (rinsed well). If I think they might be tempted to chew wood, I'll put a big log out there for approved chewing.

Hi 2dogs
He has two goats...doesnt really care for them but their there lol:). I though about another horse but besides the extra money it would cost I only have 2 acres and he is a stallion. Plus being a "only child" he is very spoiled...and he likes that I am sure! A friend suggested a only mini gelding or mini mule but Iam not sure how well that would go over.

Mine like a cut off length of garden hose, about 3-4ft. Particularly fun if you have a clever horse with neighbors within whacking distance.

I've never had a toy that was universally well liked, but I've had horses that liked the jolly ball, milk jugs with a few rocks inside, likits, that ball that spits out treats when you roll it, and empty muck tubs.

My horse used to steal a yearling's scented Jolly ball and play with it... I've also seen milk jugs with a few big marbles or pebbles in them hung up from a beam or tree, you could hang up a hessian sack - A farm I visit has hessian sacks hung up in the shelters that the BO puts fly repellent on.. but the horse's seem to think they are toys. Some tubing or a big tyre maybe or a barrel he can roll around... I wouldn't suggest going out and spending a fortune on "horse toys" or turning his turnout into a junkyard.. but have some fun with it and let us know how it goes!!!

Mine don't typically like toys, but I had to get creative when my boy was put on stall rest. Since he didn't like the jolly ball, I cut a small hole in it and put treats in it so when he plays with it treats come out. He likes playing with it now (until he gets all the treats out!)

Bizzy balls worked well for my guy when he was on stall rest. It took him about 3 weeks to reduce it to nothing. Just hang it high enough or he will have a sticky mane and ears.

I could walk in the barn and hear him playing with it.

Risky Business - I can't believe the bizzy ball lasted 3 weeks for you. I hung one of those in a shared wall so my gelding and his neighbor could enjoy it. It lasted 10 minutes, they had molasses all over their face with a guilty expression, as if to say "what? we didn't do anything???"

The Amazing Graze is a good toy, if you don't mind him getting some extra hay cubes. You just have to make sure the fencing is low enough so it can't roll out!

I made sure I hung it far enough away from the wall so he couldn't trap it. Swinging in mid air made him work a little harder.

Maybe the 2 of them worked out a plan, you hold while I eat and then I'll let you have some :)

Mine loves his loaned amazing graze http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=horse+toy+amazing+graze&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi&gbv=1&ei=Oz4SSfi3M53aNNvqzaEI

He was getting treats out in no time flat though, so I took the suggestion of someone on this forum and stuffed it full of hay as well as treats. So far, so good. :D He's in a small dry lot healing up a tendon injury.
