So,
I know many people see success and many people don't. but sometimes there are those small time 'diamonds in the rough' out there for a jo-shmoe that just wants to have a lil fun with the ponies.
I bought my mare out of a pasture for next 2 nothing ( under 1K) as a 'OTTB small Childrens Hunter Prospect' ( since she's a petite 15.2). she was VERY thin and needed some serious TLC ( turned out 24/7 all winter with other horses that didn't allow her much of the food tub)..
Looking at her record after my purchase we saw she had won her last race out last year and had done deciently the rest of the time so decided to try her on the track ( since she was living at the TB farm I've been affiliated with since I was in Diapers).
Well, Pinnacle is a short season so we raced 8 starts this year, she had 1 Win 2 Places, 2 shows and 3 4ths.. Nothing to complain about with my cheapy little horse.. Funny thing is she is so quiet that the little 4yo boy that lives on the farm would help me take care of her ( snap the lead on and walk us into the barn after we'd gallop, take her to the hot walker ect.). I also had my Middle School and Highschool Equestrian Team kids ( that I coach) practicing showmanship with her in the indoor. I will never again own another Warmblood [ehem dumb-blood] in my life after dealing with this mare and her older brother ( a freebie I now use as a lesson horse)..
So it can happen if you only have a few bucks in your pocket! with a lil hard work [i galloped her on my own at home] and some luck!!
just had to share a lil since our season is over!! I think we'll race her again next year and then pending on how she goes, either let her run or get her a new job!
Good luck to everyone in the winter season, as we will be FREEEEZZZINNNG in Michigan!!
