So,

I know many people see success and many people don't. but sometimes there are those small time 'diamonds in the rough' out there for a jo-shmoe that just wants to have a lil fun with the ponies.

I bought my mare out of a pasture for next 2 nothing ( under 1K) as a 'OTTB small Childrens Hunter Prospect' ( since she's a petite 15.2). she was VERY thin and needed some serious TLC ( turned out 24/7 all winter with other horses that didn't allow her much of the food tub)..
Looking at her record after my purchase we saw she had won her last race out last year and had done deciently the rest of the time so decided to try her on the track ( since she was living at the TB farm I've been affiliated with since I was in Diapers).
Well, Pinnacle is a short season so we raced 8 starts this year, she had 1 Win 2 Places, 2 shows and 3 4ths.. Nothing to complain about with my cheapy little horse.. Funny thing is she is so quiet that the little 4yo boy that lives on the farm would help me take care of her ( snap the lead on and walk us into the barn after we'd gallop, take her to the hot walker ect.). I also had my Middle School and Highschool Equestrian Team kids ( that I coach) practicing showmanship with her in the indoor. I will never again own another Warmblood [ehem dumb-blood] in my life after dealing with this mare and her older brother ( a freebie I now use as a lesson horse)..

So it can happen if you only have a few bucks in your pocket! with a lil hard work [i galloped her on my own at home] and some luck!!

just had to share a lil since our season is over!! I think we'll race her again next year and then pending on how she goes, either let her run or get her a new job!

Good luck to everyone in the winter season, as we will be FREEEEZZZINNNG in Michigan!!

What a great story. You sound like you saved her and now she is graciously paying back to.

Thanks for the feel good story, and good luck! Sounds like you have a real gem. I've been boarding a mousey little lucky-if-she's-15hh mare for the last couple of months who won and had a 3rd in limited starts this year after her owner insisted she get a second chance to prove herself after poor management as a 3 year old. The mare (4 yr old) hacks out with me and my horses on the weekends like she's done it her whole life. Some kid is going to have an amazing best friend some day.

What a pretty girl!

I'd love to do something like that one day (own a racehorse), but I'd worry too much about getting the horse claimed away!

What an awesome photo book. I love the pink blinged out halter. I think my husband would disown me if I tried something like that. It's got to be well-oiled leather or they don't wear a halter at all (sigh). But you've the same colors as we do, right down to the diamonds on the silks. I love the racing shots, and the last one looks like she's standing alone in the paddock. Where'd you get your browband?

haha ahh yes.. the Pink Halter.. I had that thing made for $15 at a local barrel race ( halter and the leather and the bling) Because I knew it would give Richard ( my trainer) hives.. He hates that freaking thing! but puts up with it for me ( one of those photos he's trying to get the clerk of scales to throw it out..) I drive the halter to the backside before the race when I go see her and then after the race I take it home again... so that the guys don't 'accidentally' lose it.. I wasn't there for one of her races and the grooms were freaking out cause 'the halter' wasnt there..

I actually don't have my own silks as of yet so those were the ones that the track had Ivan wear for the first race of the year, cause the silks coordinator didn't know to give us the Rettle 2-toned blue with the RR on them.. I loved the Blue and White ones though!! Hmm We've had those bridles for awhile so i'm really not sure where he picked up that browband, but i'll ask about it for you.. I think they get just about everything from Big Dee's
