I've really been happy with the Quaterback foal we had this year, and am wondering who has mares in foal to him for 09 and what kind of mares are carrying the foals. Anyone care to share???

Hey there,
we have two coming.
One from our EM Longchamp x Arkansas x Akzent II. Mare is very typey and compact, on the smaller side.

Other mare is our huge Waldkoenig x Wodka x Der Lowe xx mare. She is a very tall, substantial mare..more old style, but with nice long legs. This will be a big foal I am sure...

Donella, are both of your mares very dark?? Just wondering what the chances are to get a chestnut from dark mares. I have a very dark bay/brown mare I am considering breeding to QB next year and wonder about the chances of getting the chestnut and bling I got out of my Contucci mare. This mares sire is chestnut with bling so I guess her very dark color came from her dam. I really like the big movement and attitude he puts on the foals.

I am expecting a QB-Feiner Stern/Borneo ET in June. It will be for sale, and I have already had inquiries should it be a filly. I am really looking forward to this baby, seems as both parents complement each other well. :-)

Of the foals that I saw in Germany, if the mare was not homozygous, the foal was chestnut.

We have three Quaterback foals coming in 2009 from a variety of mares. All mares have good to excellent walks and very good hind legs.

First to arrive is a Quaterback out of a Harvard/Akzent II mare. Pre-sold in-utero. I think this one will be dark, but have not had the mare tested.

Second is a Quaterback out of a Florencio/Lady's King mare. This mare won the GOV performance test at High Point this year. Mare will be put back under saddle after the foal. I want her as a competition horse first, broodmare later.

Third is a Quaterback out of Londonderry/Weltmeyer mare. Fetal sexed as filly. This one is not for sale. Had a filly from this cross this year that we lost at four days. She was beautiful with legs that went on forever. This one will for sure be chestnut!

Good luck to everyone on getting healthy foals on the ground! Will look forward to photos in the Spring.

I have one coming.
My Don Bosco mare slipped hers ... but I have success with my EM Bretania (Brentano II / Hill Hawk xx). She is chestnut, good walk, and very even temperament. Has had very good foals to date, so I'm hopeful this one will be special too. Her "in-utero colt option" is spoken for, but I will sell the filly option.

mmt... You said "if the mare was not homozygous, the foal was chestnut".... au contraire ;-)
We did ET with my black Rubinstein - Herbststurm mare, Reina H, last year and got two embryos in the flush. One came out a copper chestnut colt and the filly came out that deep brown/black that Quaterback throws. I have not seen a BLACK Q'back in all the foals I have seen, but this dark brown keeps popping up. Before Q'back, Reina H had 2 black, black turn grey, honey/flaxen. bay, red chestnut, but never this deep brown color.
This year I have him bred to Belrose, dark bay Rubinstein - Inschallah mare who has had 2 chestnuts and a red bay; and to Tamarinde, black Jazz - Rubinstein mare who has had 2 black.
We will have an exciting group of well bred mares' foals to see soon in this country! My first is due Christmas Eve!

I was careful to say of the foals that I saw in Germany. I did not say that it was not possible. Great that you had one of each!

Talloaks,
Both are very copper red chestnuts with lots of chrome. So that is probably what we will get lol. I would adore a Liver chestnut, though I am pretty sure that is out of the question:sadsmile:

A newbie here!

I have two mares by Quaterback due and cannot wait, a Du/Benito mare and a Weltmeyer/Winterkoenig mare.

I am a big QB fan! I love seeing all the pics of his 2008 offspring, so thanks for sharing them!:)

Since Quaterback is chestnut he carries the gene for dark pigments in following was: ee his foals can not have EE but ee and Ee depending on the mare.
Than he has also a gene A which is causing whether a horse with Ee or EE is a black or bay horse. It does not play a role if the horse has ee. A horse with aaEe or aaEE is black. Since quarterback is chestnut EE can not happen in his foals. So only aaEe can be a black. One can make some sort of diagramm to find out the chances that one has, but this is not too easy if you are not sure what combination your mare and Quarterback has.
For more info check out color genetics of http://www.vgl.ucdavis.edu/~lvmillon/

I'm sorry, I didn't know that it doesn't work if you aren't registered.

I tried to open the link one time before, but obviously I was still logged in.

Is there a way to post here any pictures?

One way to post photos is to be a 'Premium member' and pay the $20. since I am a PM you can email the pics to me and I can post them for you, if you like. My email is talloaks at hughes dot net. I can only do photos, don't have a clue as to video clips, perhaps some one else can help in that department.

I joined quite a few years ago.

Go to the main page of Horse-gate.com and look for "forum" on the left-hand side. New page comes up. Look for "registrieren" in the red banner. New page: click on the box agreeing to their terms. Then you get the registration form. I can't remember if they send you a confirmation via e-mail, but I think they do.

The registration form is pretty straightforward:

Benutzername: User name

Kennwort: Password
Kennwort erneut eingeben: Password again

E-mail addres:
E-mail address again:

Then you have to type what is in the box.

I can't read German, but can pick out hengst, wallach, stute, fohlen, etc. colors. Mostly if they were talking about a particular stallion, I would just paste it into Babblefish and get the gist of it. One time, I think, I copied a post and asked someone to translate it. They changed it so now you have to sign in to see any pictures posted.

Our first of three Quaterbacks arrived on Monday. He looks like a Quaterback clone and is as sweet as can be. Big/tall foal that weighed 128 lbs at birth. He has been named Quinlan.

HI, I am posting photos of Donnarita's 4 day old Quaterback colt, the first is a bright happy picture of a super nice colt and the second is with his dam in the shadows. I lightened the picture so hope it all works. It has been awhile since I have posted a photo so I hope I get the right size and pixels the first time.
Congratulations Donnarita on such a lovely colt!!:D
YOu can double click each photo and they will enlarge!!

Aww look at that little one! Crosiadore, yours is lovely too, he really looks like daddy!

We just found out today that our EM Lotte has aborted her Quaterback foal. I am not sure when it happened, not recently but she was in foal at 100 days. :( I was sure looking forward to this one.

We have had two so far, one more to go. A colt was born in Germany out of my SPS Rotspon/Lauries Crusador mare. He is the first photo. The photo is the only one I have received, and he is very young in it, but the report from my friends that keep the mare is that he is a really spectacular mover and tall. We had a filly out of (new) EM Fhashion Model (Florencio/Akut). She is the spitting image of Quaterback, and a super mover. We have one more due out of the winner of the Walter Hartwig award for the AHS, a mare named EM Wyneth L. I bought more semen, and I will use it for sure this year- perhaps repeating the breedings.

Oh Donella, I am sooo sorry for you. Was this the mare you bred last year?? Or was it an early breeding this year??? Regardless, that is too bad. I was so disappointed when my mare didn't take on the one breeding we did with her and QB after she delivered such a spectacular filly with so much chrome and movement. Good luck to you when you try the next time. You have to try again, the QBs are soooo nice!!

Thank you Talloaks. She is supposed to be due end of May but when we got back from the World Cup this week she was showing a strong heat...and sure enough. It is so disappointing as we were really looking forward to this baby. She was confirmed at 100 days, but vet says it wasnt a recent thing, thank goodness for that. I am not sure now if we will try her to QB again, or go with the original plan of Belissimo M.

On the VERY bright side, we have a Quaterback coming from our Waldkoenig mare...she is HUGE right now and due in a month.:) I know you were so pleased with yours and with very good reason...will you try again this year???

Mo, very nice babies!

We have no foals due this year  :sigh: but I am sooo excited to hear and see information about QB. We do have one confirmed pregnancy to him for 2010 foal.

and... for those who were concerned about semen quality.. no worries.. Maiden Mare.. 1 dose of frozen = IN FOAL!! :D We are thrilled that our EMC Halleluja (His Highness/SP Radunja) is now carrying a QB foal

Can't wait to see more pictures of QB babies!

Here are some pictures of our Quaterback filly out of my Donnerhall mare Donnabelle. She was born February 10. Quiana is VERY friendly and easy to work with. She was leading and tieing and would allow us to pick up all four feet easily by one week old. She is quite tall and very nicely built. These pictures were taken at 3 days old, I need to get outside and take some more!

I have not yet bred Donnabelle back, I am waiting to breed her around the same time I breed back Tirana, my black French Kiss mare (bred to Plaisir d'Amour), who is due to foal in a couple of weeks. I want to have them foal as closely to the same time as possible so the foals will have a playmate around the same age. I am still undecided as to which stallion to breed her to since I have semen from so many great stallions in my tank. QB is definitely an option, but I also might try Romanov.

I am going to breed Quinoa, my 3 year old Quaterback filly, this year as well. It will be really interesting to see what she produces. I will probably use French Kiss for her since Tirana is SO incredible in looks, temperament, intelligence and willingness to work. She is the spitting image of her sire. I would love to get another one like her. Quinoa is very much the same as Tirana in every way but color (Quinoa is chestnut), a true delight.

I need to get updated photos of Quinoa, she was just a yearling when these were taken. Tirana's photos were taken in October at her GOV Mare Inspection.

Someone earlier asked the question, in what way do breeders see QB improving on their mares and what does he produce in the foals

this was ignored, and i too would love an answer to this question

I absolutely love QB himself, and really wanted to use him, but after watching many videos and dvds of his foals from different auctions, and seeing some here in Australia, i was pretty disappointed, and did not end up buying the semen

I would very much like to know what qualities he is bringing to the foals

Quaterback most obviously improved the gaits of our mare. The mare is a six mover in terms of trot and canter...she is very powerful behind but is flatter moving and could be more elastic. She is good over her back and has a nice walk. Quaterback most certainly contributed in adding alot of elasticity, suspension and that real brilliance (knee action) that he himself has. This colt we had came out cantering as nice as I could ever dream of and when I finally saw the trot, I was just as impressed. He contributed so heavily to this foal and from a mare that is so prepotant herself that I had no choice but to breed back.

In terms of type, he gave a prettier head/expression and longer legs. The colt also has a super shoulder and neck but the mare is good in this area as well so it's hard to tell who is responsible for that.

No pictures yet, just arrived: Quaterback colt out of Elite His Highness mare. He has two white socks in rear and front white band and dot on face. Mousy brown with black popping through so looks like our other black horses when they were born. Looks like we got a black Quaterback! Love the knee action already going around the straw in the stall! Pictures tomorrow

As per the new video .... drol. I'd take that walk on a dressage horse - especially if I got that trot and canter in the same package. He is super.

We bred our imported Krack C mare to Quaterback and received a wonderful possibly dark bay colt from her this June. His name is Quatermane and he is so athletic we are delighted. We breed dressage horses in Canada and between his Sire and Dam has over a dozen FEI performance horses in his first four generations of pedigree. Thank you Judy Yancey for importing the semen. This year this Mare is in foal to Uphill.

Quintessa MF, bay filly born May 1, 2010 by Quaterback out of EM Rising Star/Rotspon/Ramiro Son II.

We were lucky enough to have Sharon Packer and Pat Girard of Horse Sports Photography out thsi past Thursday. Here are a couple of photos they took as well as a link to a short video of her.
Since we are downsizing next year, this is theonly foal of 2010 that I am not keeping, so sadly for sale. But I want an embryo from this filly with our stallion sometime in the future!!!!
