Well is appears that this mare will be with me for the 2009 breeding season. Is anyone up for a match-making session? :D
The mare is 16.1 hd Thoroughbred, approved Old/NA with a score of 103, first two photos taken straight off the track. Breeding for hunters or jumpers.

She looks similiar in type to my mare! I am also looking for a hubby for her!
Has she had a foal before? My mare had a colt this year by Roc USA, he is great and everything I have hoped for.
That being said, the colt will be quite large, I am looking into some smaller stallions.
Hard to give you tips only because you said hunter or jumper, that is a broad spectrum!
Roc USA is great for both and if producing both, but if you don't want a large foal then something smaller might be better. (he is 17 hands)
I like Chaleon and I am looking into him for a hunter type foal for next year. I also was impressed with Ragtime. He had some nice young horses at the West Coast IHF finals.
If you could narrow it down a bit, you might get some more constructive choices.
Such as
hunter or jumper
frozen or fresh
proven producers or up and comers
price of stud fee
color an issue?
size an issue?
also more on your mare. Is she a hunter type, jumper type, temperament?

Wow, that is one gorgeous mare !!!
Congrats and enjoy the 'hubby' shopping -

Thanks you guys.
As far as the particulars, the foal will be marketed as a youngster. Color and fresh vs frozen are not important. Prefer something in the 16 hd range. Stud fee $1500 and under.
The mare is a nice mover and has an incredible personality. I can't say that I'm disappointed that she didn't sell.

What's her breeding like? She looks a LOT like a Horatius son that I know.

She is gorgeous!!!
I'd say go with Ironman. Ironman is 17hh but he crosses great with TB's. If she has great movement (which it looks like she probably will) then the foal will definitely be a winner in the hacks. Ironman has a great personality and temperment and his kids are as sweet as could be (his latest at our barn, Jade, was never people shy, even at birth). see ironmanonline.com for more info.

What about Corlando or More Than Luck?

I like Corlando!
I would say Chaleon if you want something around 16 hands.
My mare is 16 hands and I bred her to a 17 hand stallion and it looks like the baby will be at least 16.3.
Look at her background too. If she has size in her background, I wouldn't go over 16.2 in the stallion.

What's her registered name? It would be helpful to know her breeding, so as not to recommend anything too closely related. :)
I'd look for a stallion that is prepotent for A) a good loin connection, B) a nice long hip, and C) good bone, esp. in front. Those are her only weakish areas IMO.
For a hunter, Jones Hall has sired many IHF winners, and there's a young sire in VA named Fun And Fancy Free who is beautifully bred and looks to be a very nice type. Castle Cove is a proven hunter sire, and then there's Triple Twist in Ohio who has fantastic breeding for hunter, jumper, or eventing. A Fine Romance in Canada is well known for getting nice hunter/jumpers. Reputed Testamony is especially nice. Do a hypo-mating with all those and your mare and see how the pedigrees look.
Now if you are looking for a WB, I personally am a big Trakehner fan, you can go through their website (http://www.americantrakehner.com) and see pictures of all the active stallions, plus read their show records and what their offspring have done, all that stuff. Advocate is an accomplished sire; Tigre is absolutely gorgeous; Silver Twist is sure bred to jump; there are lots of other nice ones. Your registration options are better with a Trakehner sire and a TB dam, rather than the other way around, oddly enough.
As far as other breeds - there is a Selle Francais named Knock Wood who is young but has wonderful bloodlines. And the Dutch stallion Just The Best is truly gorgeous, and a proven sire (http://www.tishquirk.com/). Don't know if either of those are OldNA approved, though.

Sorry, her pedigree can be found here. http://www.pedigreequery.com/d+j+whitney
I have a Chaleon weanling, and as much as I love him I'd like to try something else for this mare. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Please keep them coming. :)

You wanted to sell HER???? Ouch! I'd keep her just to gaze upon her.
Has she been ridden? she looks athletic, what's her jump like?
Oh do let us know who decide upon. And photos of the baby later.

I absolutely love her. Can't stay away from this thread. She's one of the most beautiful mares I've seen, and that's saying something.
As already suggested, if you are wanting to stay pure TB, A Fine Romance would be excellent.
However, Just The Best would be my choice in an instant if you were considering WB. I have a mare in foal by him and I can't wait!!! (My mare is a TB)
Both will give you amazing jump and lovely movement. Both are exceptional in every way.

Lovely mare...have to admit that is the nicest TB mare I've seen in a while. Good luck with her.
How about Coconut Grove, PopeyeK.

Kannan would do a super job on her and you'd get something that can do well in both sports.

As you might know, Fun and Fancy Free is one of my favorites, but he will not tighten up her loin.
I think Just the Best is an excellent choice. Also Jones Hall is proven and would be a great choice.

I agree. When you take one look at this beautiful intelligent head how can you NOT be a fan of a nice TB! (I know the head is just one part, but good grief I have never seen such a pretty head on a WB) Would love to have that hanging over my stall door!

JCIbarra, I didn't know you still had this mare, I sooooooo wanted her when you posted her for sale, but never got any video clips of her!!
If I was breeding her, I'd seriously consider Black Tie, she's very similar to my mare and I ADORE her baby from him......she's also had a Corlando, but I think she'd match better with Tie.....

I'll have to do some research on Black Tie. I don't know much about him.
Just The Best and Corlando are both very nice. Both of Gray Fox's boys are on the short list as well.
I love Ironman and his head/neck combined with hers would be incredible I'm sure.
Neighland, sorry about the video. I have a super low quality one of her in the paddock but I thought I had sent it to everyone who had inquired. I apologize!

I'm a fan of Apiro, I think he's cross well with her. I also am a fan of Just the Best. Both would be very nice if you want a hunter!

Well no wonder she is so pretty. Inbred 3x5 to Prince John. He sure seems to pass on some good looks. :)
If you are considering a TB sire, you can go to equineline.com and try out different crosses with their "Hypothetical 5-Cross Thoroughbred Pedigrees" which are now free. You can look for any inbreeding, etc.

You have a lovely mare !
I would definately consider Sir Wanabi for her. I saw few foals by him and they were breathtaking. The OLD/NA judge had only great comments on what he produces (almost only premiums).
Good luck with your surch of the perfect match !!!

Have you thought about Landwerder (AKA Silver Lining)? He's kind of Old-School..... but he's lovely, and he was successful as both a jumper and a hunter. His full brother is Landor S, a very respected jumper sire in Germany. The farm that stands him has some amazing early booking discounts, and they include the first shippment. (They also stand Apiro..... he was already suggested in a couple of posts, I think)
