Finally, after a 3am pick up at Chataue Elan this AM, shes home, safe and sound.
She is very elegant! Petite, just like I was hoping! So sweet and gentle!
She spent the wee hours in her stall resting and then went out after daylight this morning to a pasture by herself but within sniffing range of the others. She seems to be adjusting well, is eating grass and drinking.
She hasnt been too interested in her grain or mash tonight, but thats to be expected.
She has some rain rot on her back, but other than that, she perfect! She LOVES to cuddle and have her cheeks scratched.
I'm going to give her some time to adjust and get the rain rot under control before saddling or anything...its right in the saddle area.
I cant wait to see how she turns out in her new hunter life!!
Still trying to think of a new name for her. Shes so elegant and tiny....Rexy just doesnt do her justice.

Congratulations!!!!! I was in love with her from the moment I saw her on FLTAP. She's lovely, and I can't wait for you to post pics.
I like the name Rexy, I think you should keep it as a barn name.

I think the general concensus from everyone is that Rexy sounds too much like Rudy...and while I am still mouring his loss, she needs her own identity.
I must say, it feels a little weird to have another horse in his stall and pasture. Not that it doesnt feel good or right, just weird.
Everyone has been throughly impressed with her. She let me measure her for her new blanket, walked through the barn, into the wash stall, up the driveway and didnt bat an eye. just walked calmly next to me.
I know it will take time to form the kind of bond Rudy and I did, but I think it will come.
Here she is....she even has a droppy sleepy lip like he did!

So, Ive been calling her "The Mare" for three days...she needs a new name and I am STUMPED!!!
Anyone have any suggestions?
Something simple....
Shes super sweet and kind, shes dark with no white markings, and petite. And apparently shes an escape artist and knows how to un-latch gates!

She's really beautiful! Congratulations on your new friend. What about Molly? Trying to get something close to Rexy, emphasis on that long 'e'... :)

So she's an escape artist, is she? She didn't have much of an opportunity to exercise that talent at the track, lol.
Given that, how about "Magic."

My gelding is named Sofine SneaknPeek (barn name, Sneakers) because he was always opening gates when he was just a tike.
Since she's sweet and dark you could call her Hershey, Snickers, Godiva, Rolo, Tootsie ... you get the gist!;)
CONGRATS!

Congratulations! How about Sneak or Sneaky, I think that would be a cute name and not your typical barn name either.

You could go with Godiva as JaneeneSings said and call her Diva! She is very cute...Congrats!

Sweet, dark, and sneaky? Sounds like a Kahlua to me :)

When I first saw Ms. Rexy out of her stall I thought she looked as graceful as a gazelle...
How about Niobi (pronounced N-eye-oh-bee). ;)

I like Lucy, too.
Or maybe name her Seneca, after one of the Finger Lakes.
I don't think I would go with another famous Finger Lake, Skaneateles. (Can't you hear the announcers murdering her name now?) Barn name could be Lise.

If you don't like Rexy, how about Raza? It's sort of exotic, which I think is nice for a small, elegant mare.

?Wow!! You guys ar great!! I really like Tootsie, Kahlua, and Niobi.
Very nice....
Yes, she unlatched her paddock gate yesterday and ATTEMPTED to unlatch the gate to the big pasture, but apparently couldnt get it open.
She was very good in our first "workout" yesterday. She accepted the crossties, let me pick all of her feet, brush her, comb her mane and tail and took her bridle all without hesitation.
We worked in the arena on leading, some lunging, and yielding to pressure.
She has some rain rot on her back, but I hope that clears up quickly so I can get on her.

Sweet, dark, and petite? How about Roxie (like from Chicago)?
Sounds like Rexy, but more feminine and with a bit of past. ;)

I totally sympathise on the name thing! Why couldn't 'our' trainer send our beasties to us with their barn names?!
My #2 kid's little TB mare is dark bay/seal brown with just a bit of white. She's a refined and dainty little thing who also has a lower lip that tends to be a bit lax.... Her barn name is Coco. I had a solid black pony named Molly. She was a very sweet and loving pony with a bit of a rascally side ;) So my vote is for Molly

Ya, I was VERY surprised to read her papers and find that Rexy IS her JC registered name!!!

Thelema?
I typed all of the descriptive words that people were throwing around (small, dark, refined, elegant) into Google, and I seem to be getting a lot of wine pages. *lol* That was one of the wine types on a page I clicked into. I'm also seeing Bordeaux, Shiraz, and Stellina di Notte (which means "little night star" and I think it would be a really cute show name, if not just a tiny bit hard for the announcers).
Then again, my guinea pigs are named Midori and Stella Artois, so I seem to go for the alcoholic names...

I'm a big believer in not messing too much with barn names (bad luck??), but I don't like Rexy much either-sounds like a dog name.
I like Roxy or Lexi--enough like her name she knows, but different enough.
Who knows, Rudy might be quite happy you found one with a similar name--its a happy omen!

Maybe something French?

You won't like my choice...had I been a mare, my show name would have been "Twisted Sister" - (Dee Snyder grew up in my mom's home town, their small claim to fame). And my barn name would have been "Abby" for "Abby-normal" (think "Young Frankenstein"). Makes me shudder!!!
There's always "Joliecoeur" for "pretty heart."

You might not want to know what some of the trainers use for barn names on their horses.;) Some of them are endearing but only if you know why they are used. I can't repeat some of them on here!
I do know that Rexy was just Rexy or Filly at her stable.

How about Lola?
And I rode her this evening!!! We just walked, as she is missing a shoe....but she was super good! A little up...but heck, its cool and windy and the pony kept screaming at her.
She was wonderful in the crossties and tolerated gromming just like an old pro. And shes figuring out what treats are!

I proudly rode up to the trotter barn on my first OTTB when I was at a show out at the fairgrounds back in my younger yrs (;)) and the guys came out and exclaimed "why that's ole J'Boo - the crazy one that old Art used to own!"
Congrats - your new girl is very lucky to have YOU!
