View Full Version : Who's going to MeadowCreek
Divine Comedy
Oct. 5, 2008, 09:40 PM
My trainer backed out on Meadowcreek at the last second because I was the only person who wanted to go. I don't blame him at all, but I'm left a bit high and dry for a ride. He said he'd try and find me a ride, but he's busy, he might have forgotten, so I thought I'd ask around here. Is anyone heading to MeadowCreek Park from the north Dallas area and might be able to give my horse a ride?
ETA: Now that Angela has confirmed a ride for me, I want to know if anyone else on here is going. I'll be on Divine Comedy (Dante) in the OT.

I'm coming from the exact opposite direction, or I'd offer.
This is my first event, and I keep checking obsessively to see if ride times have been posted. No luck yet. :(
Good luck finding a ride. I'd be pretty unhappy to be dumped at the last minute!

Divine, you might want to check the Area V website. They have a "carpool/trailerpool" list on their site. I don't know if it will help but it's worth a shot!!!
I am bumming a ride myself otherwise I'd offer to come get ya on my way down from Argyle! :) One day I will have my own trailer.........

Thanks for the tip, I will check that out. I'm with you texaseventer, I seriously could use a rig, but I just can't afford one....And this is even the time to buy one, I saw a 3500 for sale for just $9K!

He called me yesterday and I am taking your horse. Picking him up by 10am on Friday.
When will you be arriving to the show?
Angela
P.S. With that sorted out, let's change this to who's going to MC
I will be there on Novelle in the Prelim and Murphy in ON.
Thank goodness for rain, keep praying for more

Awesome! I wasn't sure he would be able or remember to find me a ride, he's been so busy lately! Thanks for telling me, I am very relieved. And thanks for giving me a ride! I can meet you at the barn to help load my horse and drive down at the same time, probably get there a little earlier in my little car :-).

I'm coming right after the class I teach on Thursday. I'll be on Paycheck in N (senior I hope). It's our first Novice there, though we just did Greenwood and we were at Flagstaff in the spring.
Glad you found a ride!

I'll be there in BN, hopefully a little tipsy after my pre-dressage mimosa party at Joy's stall :)
We are getting there Friday probably around 2-3.

I'll be in BN on Capital Kiss, I hope! Does anyone know when they post ride times? I know they've cashed my check, and otherwise I've heard nothing. This is new to me, so I don't know what sort of communication to expect. I just keep having these nightmares that they don't tell me until 5 minutes before my ride time, and I can't get ready in time. I'm a basket case. My poor mare will earn her sainthood if I make it through alive!

They're not very good about email--most of the stuff on their website is a bit old--but they are good about answering the phone, and that phone number works! Jodye just called me and said I'm in the south barn....with a hookup close by! Woo, hoo!
Looking forward to it. Happy Travelling (it's 8 hours for me)!

Thanks a bunch! I have a mac, maybe I'm missing some links....But yay, ride times! And yay, I go at 11:02 and 10:44, not MEGA EARLY! (Especially b/c I am apparently staying at a hotel over an hour away :o)

No worries!
I don't go until after 2 both days. Darn BN start times...
Both my other barn mates are in Training so they go way before me. Now I have the joy of making someone wait around for me to give us a ride home <sigh>.
Yet another reason to put on my big girl panties and move up to Novice AND to find the cash to buy a new truck and get a trailer!!! LOL

Thanks, I NEVER would have found those ride times- I didn't see a link either! Dang, I guess I don't have to worry about getting up early to braid. I have ALL DAY to figure it out. :)

I got to sit on Money Machine the other day and he's very cool. Too big for me, but then I'm not looking to buy anyway. He was bred to be an event horse and I was sorry when they went the jumper direction with him, but he'll step right up this weekend I'm sure!

I'll be there too in beg. novice. I'm one of the million Bethany's that there seem to be eventing in area V. LOL I'd rarely met another one my whole life until I started eventing a year or so ago, and I think there's at least 5 that I've met.
Who was hosting the mimosa party again?;)

So, how did everyone do? I never went back to check final scores after I scratched. :(
I'm actually pretty depressed.
Even in 9th place after dressage, I was so proud. I thought 40.5 was pretty darn good considering neither my mare nor I had ever ridden a real test and she does NOT love dressage. Then I was disappointed in stadium because I forgot to ride the beginning of the course and had a refusal and some time penalties. But I was still so stupidly giddy about cross country. For 14 years I've wanted to ride a cross country course, and I've schooled bits and pieces, but never gone out on my own and jumped a whole course. I was scared out of my mind but so, so excited. Then when the TD waved me over in the warm-up for XC and told me she'd called the vet because my mare looked off, I have never, ever felt such overwhelming disappointment. I actually never got a chance to thank the TD (who was extrtemely kind) because I couldn't talk without choking back tears... My mare has never been off a day in her life, and decides to be lame today. I swear it was those awful 8x8 stalls... Mare went home on trainer's trailer to go to their vet (in another town) tomorrow because I trust mine for pulling coggins and floating teeth, but that's about it. I cried the whole way home with my empty trailer. So I'm depressed because I don't know what's wrong with Fancy and I can't be with her, and then I get a call from Mom saying my dad's been in the hospital all weekend, and I'm not sure what's wrong there either. What a depressing day. What a crappy way to have my first event end.
Anyway, I hope you all had a better time than I did! I recognized lots of names over the intercom, but I think texaseventer was the only one I saw go. Joy was so cute in stadium! Good job. Not a whole lot of clear rounds in BN!

I'm sorry about your mare and your dad archie, that stinks. I hope your mare just has an abcess or something similar and will be fine and I hope your dad will be fine too.
My weekend went pretty good. I had a wonderful dressage test, save a break to the canter in the extended trot, but the rest was steady, obedient, and beautiful. I was rather disappointed that it wasn't reflected in my score; my horse has score in the 20's while being less than obedient and we got a 38.5....But that happens sometimes.
Showjumping was good, my horse was jumping well, but we pulled a rail when we came in crooked to an in and out and pulled the first part.
XC was a blast, my horse took everything like a champ including the corner and both waters, so I'm pretty happy despite my score. My horse doesn't know that he didn't place well, he just knows he did a good job!

Archie I am SO SORRY about your mare and your daddy. I was wondering what happened to you as I saw your WD on the score sheet.
Joy was having a lot of fun after our 2nd worst dressage EVER ;) and we ended finishing 4th! He was a freight train XC. We're moving up to Novice, I have to give him something to LOOK AT. I swear he was about to run through some of those fences! LOL But we had SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm really proud of my lovely boy.
PLEASE keep us posted on your mare and your dad. Sending positive good healing thoughts your way!
Are you signed up for Holly Hill??

Wow, XC really was move-up day! Good job working up to 4th!!! (and sorry about calling him a her!)
Just brought Fancy back home. Turns out she has some light arthritis in her hocks. :( She has never been lame a day in her life, but leave it to the HARD ground and tiny stalls at Meadowcreek to bring it out. Vet really thinks it's a non-issue for now though, and had to look hard to find it. I guess I should have known that starting to event a nine-year old OTTB would lead to hock injections at some point. I need to look into getting some ful x-rays done with a vet here in town so I can keep up with any changes. Having just-for-fun horses was so much easier. :) But I'm thankful the TD noticed it before it became a real problem.
As for Dad, I haven't heard anything more. They're doing some tests to see if he may have been having some light strokes. Middle-aged horses and aging parents (at 67, Dad's "older" than his own father was at 90) are too stressful!

Keep us posted on Fancy. The ground was like a rock, esp in stadium. :(
Joy is very secure in his masculinity so no apology needed ;) He knows he has a "girl's" name but I just couldn't change it, he jumps with so much JOY it just suits him!!!!
My thoughts are with you and your family! Big hugs!

Meadow Creek is always a rock. Just expect it when you go.
It's not a great place for the UL or horses with sensitive feet.
it's just wonderful for T and below though. : )

Here's good thoughts about horses and dads....
I had a blast at MCP. We had a good dressage test--35.5--and we were still 9th! I DID see the pics, and by golly, the judge was right--we were behind the vertical a lot. That's new for us...so I'll need to work on that.
SJ, I sort of lost it. We had three rails down when my horse got strong and I sat there trying to bring him back with JUST my reins. Duh. I KNOW better.
BUT...XC was sooooo much fun! We'd moved up to N (our first one there), and a lot of the jumps were new tables and such, but my trooper never blinked. We were consistent, but we came in a bit too fast....still, I am TICKLED pink knowing that we really can do N--and pretty easily, too, when I remember to RIDE.
It was fun seeing Mandy and others from CoTH there. I'll be at HH....it's 10 hours away, but that's the price I pay for living in a place where I can afford multiple horses, right? :winkgrin
