View Full Version : Cute little rescued kitten FOUND home! (Balto. MD)

"Rosie" was rescued from an flea-infested alley in Baltimore. I've had her about 2 and a half weeks. She's probably about 10-12 weeks old.

In the beginning, all she did was hiss, but she's over that now. :D She's still a bit skittish, but likes to be petted and purrs like crazy, can be picked up and held, etc. She's probably a week or so away from being truly ready to be adopted, but I figured I'd start advertising her now, just to get the ball rolling.

She is spayed, has her first vaccinations, and is FELV negative. She has the run of the house, gets along well with other cats, and uses the litter box. So far, she has a pretty independent personality, and is pretty brave. She still needs a little more encouragement in her socialization -- lots of petting and picking up, so she continues to have good experiences with those things. But she's just your typical rambunctious little kitten!

She will probably be shy at first upon moving to a new home, so will need a little understanding and patience. It's usually just a matter of a couple of days before a kitten gets settled and is back to normal. :)

I'm happy to deliver anywhere within reasonable driving distance. A couple of pictures are below.

We adopted this little girl's brother, Ollie, and I can tell you if she is half the character he is you won't be disappointed! You would never know that he had such a bad start in life. It took him about 24 hours to take over the house. Now he is chasing the dogs, tormenting the older cats and pouncing on all of us. He is truly a delight!

It's funny, Ollie was totally friendly within about 12 hours of being rescued. (The fact that he was so covered in fleas that he was actually a different COLOR than he should have been might have made him a bit more amenable to socialization, I suppose... )

Rosie, on the other hand, took her good sweet time deciding that humans were acceptable -- I couldn't even get her to purr for a week!

But she's a very spunky little girl and now that she's decided humans are OK, will make someone a great new buddy. :)

Another bump for Rosie! I've taken to calling her "The Silver Bullet," since her favorite game is to RUNRUNRUN from one end of my house to the other at top speed, for no discernible reason. :D She's a great little kitten and tons of fun.

New pictures. :D

She had to check out my saddle...

Sorry this pic isn't better, it's from my cell phone. (She moved, of course, by the time I got the real camera.) She emptied all the toys out of the kitty toy basket so she could nap in it. (Those are catnip cigars you see littering the floor around her!)

Giving Rosie another little bump. I've been advertising her on Craigslist also, but haven't gotten responses from anyone I think worthy of little Rosie yet! (I'm picky, what can I say. ;) )

While she is not usually the kind of cat to actively seek attention (at least not yet), she is quite happy to be petted and spent most of today sitting on the couch with me watching football. Even climbed into my lap once of her own accord! She likes to be around people, but doesn't usually want to be right on top of you.

She gets along well with other cats, and is not the type to torment older kitties. She's a smart little cookie. :) Very adventurous, too! Anytime I open a closet or cabinet door, she's right there to check out whatever's inside. I haven't really had a chance to introduce her to very many new people yet, but she doesn't seem to be overly shy in that regard.

Someone out there must need this spunky little girl!

Someone please take Ollie's sister so I don't have to! He is a great kitten - our vet saw him today for his last vaccine and pronounced him "perfect" so I am sure his sister is too!:yes:

(The other cat in the picture, btw, is Amber, one of the original pair of feral kittens (http://www.chronicleforums.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=132570) I fostered to socialize. As you can see, still here... and not a kitten anymore. )

omg that picture is one of the cutest I've ever seen! If I didn't have my hands full with 4 cats and 1 kitten I would steal her off your hands

Good luck finding her a great home!

Does this mean Ollie's sister found a home?!

Erin
Oct. 20, 2008, 09:00 PM
Not yet, although SanDiegoPinto might know of a possibility. :)

One of my other foster kittens (Charles) is a total attention hound and will come running whenever I sit on the couch, purring like crazy and rolling blissfully all over before he wedges himself as closely up against me as he can and goes to sleep. ;) His antics always draw Rosie over, since she wants to make sure SHE is in on any action! She just spent about an hour sleeping in my lap, after wearing herself out playing with the drawstring on my flannel PJ bottoms.

I do have an appointment to take her into the vet on Weds., though, as she has one claw that doesn't retract -- it's always fully extended -- and seems like it might be hurting her a bit. I've never seen anything like it, so figured it would be best to get it checked out. But hopefully it's something simple to fix!

Still looking for a home for little Rosie!

I took her to the vet yesterday for her claw. It looks as though she may have dislocated it, maybe wresting with the other cats. So she's going to go back next week to have a declaw done on just that one toe, since it doesn't seem that the ligaments will heal and allow her to retract that claw. I reassured her that she gets to keep the other 9 claws, though. :D

She thought the vet was very scary, but was a good girl and quickly forgave me, curling up on the couch with me to watch TV last night. She is definitely on the shy side, but does like being around people. She seems to really like having other cats for company, too. I find her curled up with the gray kitty pictured above all the time!

She will have the declaw on Tuesday and won't be ready to go anywhere for a few days after that, but I'd really like to get her settled in a permanent home soon. :)

Noctis, I know Delighted will be coming east in December and then heading back to Knoxville... I'm sure Rosie could always hitch a ride. ;) Or we could possibly try to figure out a caravan for her. If you're really serious, let me know.

Poor little Rosie had her declaw yesterday. I picked her up last night and she was sporting a VERY stylish lime green vetrap bandage up to her elbow and looked so cute, I was going to take a picture... but she managed to remove the bandage before we even got home. She's supposed to stay in a crate for a couple of days to keep her activity level to a minimum... and she is NOT HAPPY about that! I'm hoping to be able to make it one more night, and then I think I'll have to let her out and hope for the best. She is one very opinionated little kitten! Everyone at the vet's office loved her though. And she's been reeeeeeaaaaally affectionate since I brought her home. I think she was worried that she was staying at the vet's office for good!

Erin all I can say is that if you lived in KY I would have to have a bigger house because I would adopt all the cute kitties you put on here. I want everyone you put up :)

Bump! Rosie still needs a home.

Although she's still a bit wary, she's not shy -- she doesn't run and hide when people come over. She just watches from a safe distance. ;) And she gets better and better about not scooting away when you try to pet her... and she'll get over that completely in time. It's just a matter of a LOT of petting. (Such a travesty, having to devote so much time to petting a kitten... )

Okay People! Somebody out there better take this kitten home and soon! As you know, we adopted Rosie's brother, Ollie, well my girls keep checking to see if his sister found a home yet. Now, they think we need yet another cat because poor Rosie doesn't have a family yet. Someone, please take pity on us - my DH is actually allergic to cats so adding a 4th to the family may just push him over the edge. The two old cats would really appreciate it too, Ollie is driving them nuts.

Taking Rosie home would be an act of kindness towards a poor red-eyed man and two beleagured senior cats who think one kitten in the house is quite enough.

Now see, that tempts me to say, put DH on some good allergy medication and bring Rosie home to occupy Ollie and relieve your senior kitties...I know, I know, not helpful and not what you wanted to hear, lcw. ;)

Aw, thanks lcw! :) I do have a couple other cats who I haven't posted on COTH yet, so if your friend is "in the market" but doesn't think Rosie is a good match, let me know and I'll send you info on the other guys.

Rosie is starting to turn the corner... I had a friend here for the weekend with her two little kids in tow (a 15-month-old and a 5 year old). The cats all made themselves pretty scarce, but Rosie did venture out when the kids went to bed, and played with my friend and let her pet her. She's getting over the instinct to scoot away whenever you reach for her... still needs some work and some more encouragement, but she's getting there! (My friend really wanted to stuff Rosie in her suitcase and take her home, but feared divorce. ;) )

Another bump for Rosie!

She is really doing great these days -- you can pet her pretty much anytime and anywhere, and she sleeps on me at night. :) She gets along famously with two older (6-7 months-ish) kittens I have and would love to go to a home with one of them!

Rosie is still here. :sigh:

She's funny... she is not the kind of kitten who comes up and asks for attention, yet she sleeps on me (and I mean ON ME... not next to me, ON my stomach!) every night. As soon as I turn off the lights, she hops right up and marches to her spot. Fortunately she doesn't weigh very much yet!

She really adores the other cats so I'm hoping she can go to a home with another kitty to play with. (Or I can offer someone a two-fer and send her along with one of her foster brothers!)

I'm totally willing to deliver her anywhere within driving distance... I go to Pittsburgh in a couple of weeks to visit a friend, and I'll also be driving to Chicago for Christmas.

And, as I offered before, I'll be doing a VA/SC/TN jaunt some time in december - I can just plan on going to VA first to pick up any of the Erin cats and deliver down south as needed.

ETA: Current plan is to go to VA on Dec 11th, then back that following Sunday, then hover around in TN for a while, then down to SC around Christmas-time. Just sayin', you know..

Another bump for Rosie!

I have a couple of older foster kittens (about 6-7 months) and one of them, James, likes to play very rough. He and Rosie have totally hit it off. She likes to pounce on him, and then he pounces on her, and then she howls like a banshee, runs off, and then comes back and pounces on his head again. :D They'd make a very entertaining pair.

I wish my boyfriend would acknowledge how easy it is to keep cats  He thinks they are too much work and four+ is out of the question. But this fat guy (http://www.flickr.com/photos/30899443@N03/2996682021/) needs more exercise than just one kitty friend (and a kitty nonfriend/punching bag) and a few camelback crickets can provide!

Maybe if they were just dropped off outside our garage? We have had people at work threaten to do it so it could possibly be passed off as someone who-is-not-me!

Erin

I'm so working on it. I don't know WHEN he'll come around, but I'm going to make sure it happens sometime. There's just no good reason two people with no kids should live with just three tiny cats in a huge 4 bedroom house.

MDEventer, you must take Rosie! If she is half as entertaining as her brother your boyfriend will be eating out of her paw in no time! Besides, now is the time to train him to look around the house for new pets when he comes home at night. After some time he'll just give up and be grateful when the population doesn't increase for a while! At least that's how it worked with my husband!

My lead didn't pan out for her, but we are still working on it!

Actually, he really laughed at/likes the Kitler in the other Giveaways post so I'm trying to decide if I brought that one and another one (a cute little grey one, who I would just say the Kitler owner threw in my car) home, would he be really mad? He does looooooove our other Erin cats.

Erin, my husband and I would like to adopt one of your kittens - we are going away for New Year's but woul like to bring one home after the holidays in January. I will send you a pm once we get back to see what you have available. I know he would like to get a male, but Rosie is awfully cute - I may be able to convince him otherwise.

Hey Faircourt!

At this rate, Rosie might still be here at New Year's. :sigh: I have another female kitten (Cinnamon, a brown tabby about Rosie's age) who's still a bit on the shy side, and two older kittens (7-8 months) who are boys. All of them get along famously together, btw, if by any chance you were interested in two.

Rosie's really doing well. She routinely hops in my lap when I'm watching TV, although she is definitely a cat who comes to YOU when she wants affection, not the other way around!

Needless to say, with four foster kittens, I decided NOT to have a Christmas tree this year!

At long last, Rosie has a home. :)

Someone adopted Charles, an older kitten I had, earlier this fall, and was waffling about taking Rosie also to keep him company, but decided to just start with the one. Right before Thanksgiving, he emailed me to say he was still thinking about it, but then I didn't hear back again. Then someone replied to Rosie's Petfinder ad and was supposed to come meet her Saturday. But Charles' adopter emailed me last night and said he was ready to take the plunge and become a two-cat household, which thrills me to no end because he is definitely good peeps and adores Charles. Plus, Charles and Rosie adored each other. (See below.) :)

So hooray! It took a while, but Rosie will be headed off to her new home this evening. And now I guess I should start pimping Cinnamon...
