I am heading up to the Toronto, Ontario area to look at an event horse for my daughter in the next few weeks. I would love if folks could give other suggestions on barns or trainers I should contact to see what else I can line up to look at. Many thanks.:)

Peter Gray would be the man to contact.

would be to call Garry Roque at Bystorm Farm. You could see both he and Peter in the same day as their farms are quite close together. Garry has a number of nice horses for sale right now. I'll send you a private message with his phone number.

another suggestion is Tamarack Lane Farm, outside Brantford, not far from Toronto.
;)
I've bred a number of nice event horses, and have a few outstanding youngsters right now.
Please PM me if you would like more information.

Ontario/Toronto area is really a hidden treasure for horse-hunting: last year we went up to look for an amateur one star horse and for youngsters, and were able to ride 14 in one day, and fly back early the next morning. Absolutely painless as far as horse-shopping goes. Nicole Shinton had a good variety of types when we were there and was less than 40 minutes from the Toronto airport and super to work with, Karl Slezak is fairly close and had some nice ones, as does Peter (though he is a good ways away from Nicole's place, it's very doable).

Nicole Shinton seems to have switched to Dressage now and Karl Slezak actually has the one event horse that's still advertised on her website (www.greenbrierfarm.net).
There are a number of pros in the area who usually have a few for sale:
Kelly Plitz and Ian Roberts - Dreamcrest Farm: www.dreamcrest.com (under an hour northeast of Toronto)
Sarah Irving and Bob Holman - Grandview Farm (1.5 hours north of TO): http://www.grandviewfarm.com/
Leslie Saila - Glen Oro Farm (across the street from Grandview): http://www.glenoro.com/ Leslie has a couple of nice young horses right now, but not sure about any going eventers for sale
Gary Roque - Bystorm - I belive Janette posted the contact info
Peter Gray
Vanessa Fenwick - she's an hour and a bit northeast of Toronto but I can't seem to find her number...
Lindsay Mahon: http://www.raynhamstables.com/ (really close to Toronto)
Martha Griggs - Earnscliffe: 905-841-1690 (very close to LIndsay Mahon and Toronto)
Jen Irwin - Sprucehaven (1.5+ hours West of TOronto): http://www.sprucehaven.com/forsale.html
Jessica Phoenix (under an hour northeast of Toronto): http://www.redhorseinteractive.com/jessicaferguson/
Diana Burnett (near dreamcrest, Jessie Ferguson, Vanessa etc.): http://www.equestriantrainingboardinglessons.com/
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Good luck with your horse shopping and enjoy your time in Toronto!

Might I add Margaret Godson of Myrddin http://www.myrddin.info/index.htm
She's located in Georgetown, so close to many of the others listed here, and has consistently produced quality stock for many years; she's even given a few people on the above lists their starts.
Plus, I heartily reccommend you check out Fred's youngsters! I bet you can't find one you don't like!

Hawkridge is just outside of Kingston, on hwy 15. It is certainly under 3 hours from TO, I've done the drive in 2.5. 4 hours would nearly get you to Ottawa!
Fred - you (will) have a PM. I've been meaning to send you a message.

Not sure where you will be coming from, US or other part of Cananda, but we are located in Western NY and have a bit of Eventers and farms in the area.
Here is a link http://www.hideawayconnemaras.com/forsale.html that if nothing else can lead into other directions. Darren Chaicchia and Carol Kozlowski and others that have farms out here and know of horses for sale etc. The website I gave really does'nt show anything but if you e-mail, you may be lead in the right directoin.
We are only 1.5 hrs. from Toronto in between Buffalo and Rochester, NY.

That is what I was thinking too. I live just north of Toronto and went to University in Kingston so drove it many times. I wouldnt want to be in a car that makes it in under 2 hours. Though, maybe the poster who said that is coming from the far east end of Toronto.

It's more like three hours from Toronto to Kingston but of course we are worth the drive:) You can preview our sale horses on youtube.com/eventer6 or picasaweb.google.com/eventer6 (no www for picasaweb). We are about half an hour from the Alexandria Bay border crossing in New York and two hours from Syracuse airport.
BTW - Peter Grey bought his own lovely horse that won the Open Eventers from me.;)

I have used Barb 4 times and if she does not have what you are looking for she has on many occasions spent days in a car with us looking at everything for a 50 mile radius. Orchard Hill
She is super.
