View Full Version : Anybody here from the UK? Subscriber to Eventing magazine? FAST CASH tickets?

OK, this is a weird question and it's probably a total nothing, but I can't resist looking into it.

I just got the October issue of Eventing (UK). Inserted inside was a set of four "Fast Cash" lottery game cards. Anyone out there get these, too?

If you did, then you know that to win cash, you have to scratch off a ticket and get three pound signs that match, right? To win a prize, you have to scratch off three matching symbols.

Well, on one card, I got three pound signs. On another, I got three diamonds.

Is this for real? I didn't see any "restricted to UK residents" statements in the fine print of the instructions, but if there are such restrictions, do you think this is real enough for me to at least give the two tickets to someone in the UK who could use them? If I'm reading the instructions right, the deadline to send in the tickets is Dec 31st. Is that right?

What should I do? (I feel so silly. It's probably just silly promo for gullibly hopeful po-folk like moi.)

Weird - don't you hate it when you get a big envelope in the mail telling you you have just won $100,000.00 - and then read the fine print ... Reader's Digest as I recall. Let us know what you win!!!
Somebody had to buy the ticket.

Congratulations! Now I hope my issue gets here soon!

On another note and purely a self-promotion, keep an eye out for us in an upcoming issue. John staples and I were interviewed by them about our speed study.

UK contests are usually open to UK-residents only.

I recommend emailing IPC Media. They're usually quick to respond. But if you think you've won something really big, just go through a UK-based friend. :)

I assumed it was one of those competitions where every card "wins" a $5 handbag or $1000, but have to ring a premium phone number at $2 per minute for 10 minutes for details on how to claim your "prize" and whether you were one of the 999999 people who "win" the handbag, or if you are the millionth caller who wins the $1000.

(As I continue to feel very silly...)

It says "Match three (pound sign) symbols and you have won a cash prize (ranging from 318,324 prizes of ten pounds up to 1 prize of ten thousand pounds--with about ten prize levels in between).

It also says "Match and three other symbols and you have won one of these prizes: 5000-pound, 51 inch plasma TV, DVD player, watch set, etc.."

Reed (and congrats on the publicity!), tell me what you think when you get yours. If it's for real, I'll happily send it to someone who can use it (provided they promise to let me sleep in their stable when I get over there to watch Badminton in person ). PM me with an address, anyone.

Don't do it!!!
Those things are a complete con, as someone said, you have to call a premium number which will cost you about $50 and then you will win some watch set or something equally as worthless....trust me, my mother used to KILL me when I would call the numbers all excited I won only to find I had gotten a worthless piece of junk and grounded to boot for running up the phone bill!!!

I got the same thing, and have the same matching symbols: pound sign and diamonds! Sounds fishy, but I am a true sucker haha....let me know if you have any success

Oh, they should be banned. I worked in a department that used them for a while, and scratched a 10+ with a co-worker. Everyone was a winner.

The rates for the phone calls are ridiculous!

they are a con the cal you make they wlll earn from thats why when you ring they keep you hanging on forever as they go thrrough the spill of telling you what each set of symbols
wins

then you have to give them a ie your moby no so that you can be contacted via text message etc which will take every single penny you have of your top up or pay and go as every single time a mesage comes in it eats your credit as in say you have just put a tenner on it will eat that in seconds

and the only way that you can stop them commming in and taking your credit it to connact your mobile phone service provider ie orange vodaphone etc or ypoir landline servie provider then they will put a block on them so you dont receive them no more
its the same thing with no begining with 09 in the small print on the back
it wwill eat your moeny up so -- my advice is bin it

A bit OT but, what is this magazine and how do you subscribe? Is it worth it?

I occasionally find the UK magazine "Your Horse" and LOVE it. What is the eventing magazine like?

Seamus, Eventing (UK) is pure indulgence. Just what the fanatic would want for xmas! Jam packed with great photos, recent news (well, it's always almost a month late arriving here (US)), these really cool UL and YR diaries, stuff about tack and feeding, etc., etc.

On the "winning" ticket--I sent it to someone in the UK and folks are right: I was told it'd be 90 pounds to make the phone call (Pounds? Does that sound right? I can't remember now.)

You can subscribe to Eventing here (http://www.magazinesubscriptionsipc.com/ipc/ipcshop/product.asp?jrnlid=XEV&ctryid=). You can also subscribe to Horse & Hound (http://www.magazinesubscriptionsipc.com/ipc/ipcshop/product.asp?jrnlid=XHH&ctryid=) on the same site. H&H is expensive but really worth it.

Wynn, I subscribe to Eventing Magazine, and got the same thing. Read the fine print. If you try to redeem your winning tickets, it will cost you and automatically enroll you in a program that will cost you money and you have to physically opt out to avoid the hidden charges.

Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

Y'know, I'm surprised the magazine allows that. They must get a ton of complaints.

Typically, we yank whatever junk they've seen fit to put in from the mag and chuck it into the bin without looking at it. Or at least, I do. ;)

Well I am in the US but also subscribe and I too received one of those cards with 3 pound signs or something. Now you have me curious, I saved the card but haven't done anything with it.

I agree, every year I say I can't afford to renew it but I always do, its my favorite magazine and I'm not even an eventer, just a fan. The photography is wonderful.

Barnes & Noble usually has other British mags, Your Horse, Horse, etc., they seem to be the European equivalent to Practical Horseman only better. I love the "Tried & Tested" articles especially.
