We will be there!! Riding in Novice, my boys first novice;). Fingers crossed and ready to have fun. Look for a little OTTB chestnut, colors are green/black.
We should come up with some way to recongize each other.
Hubby is coming as support and as he puts it 'pretend groom'. Says that b/c he is really just learning about eventing and how to tack up a horse, but he is great at making sure my horse and I stay hydrated and relaxed! I am trying to convince him to let me bring our son along too! Aaron, our son, is just over 2yrs old. My horse has calmed down alot at the events, so I really dont need that much help having some one hold him for tacking and mounting:yes: We'll see....
Good luck to everyone!! I think there was something on the radnor website that there is a party Sat. night. We are not able to stay for it, those who go have some fun for us too!

I'll be there! JR/YR Novice division. Hopefully I can go clean XC finally. It's only my fourth HT ever, third time at N. Last weekend was a bit of a disaster at Flora Lea so I'm hoping next weekend will be better. I'll be on the bay pony in purple in black, trying not to go as fast as I did at Bucks... :\
In regards to the party... is it worth staying for? I'm from the Allentown, PA area, so it's not far and I could stay, but after a long day I wouldn't want to stick around if it's not fun. (:

I'll be there, Training Division. Dark Chestnut probably-tense-in-dressage OTTB Mare, Black-Red-Yellow colors (XC boots are striped). Hubby will be grooming, with sable and white collie in tow!
Feeling pretty unprepared since I haven't competed since May, but my mare can do training in her sleep, so we're just going to tune up for Virginia.
Radnor was her first ever "real" horse trial, 7 or 8 years ago. She was hesitant going out of the start box, and over the first few fences (the track headed toward the back of the property then) until she crested that hill, with the race track and all those jumps out in the bowl in front of her, and I could literally feel her go "... WOW!!! ... This is COOL!!! Are all those jumps for ME????? :D:D:D "
She hit her stride and has never looked back. That is such a cool feeling!

My dressage score went up about 6 points from Flora Lea... in the mud and rain, which is discouraging because my horse is finally getting on the bit and accepting the bridle and my trainer and I thought it was the best test yet. My judge was pretty picky. Stadium I went double clear though! And XC I had a stop at the really easy ramp (it was one of those, oh THAT'S how you ride moments for me ) and I took the rampish option at the water and he would not go through, so I refused out. I should have trusted my instinct and gone for the drop! I could've pushed him in easier. Oh well, I wasn't expecting to get ribbons this season and it was only my fourth trial ever, so I'm pretty happy. And at least this time I stayed in the saddle. :D
I saw one particularly awful fall during the Jr Training stadium round and there was one horse in my division that did not get a single spot and had about 5 rails. I'm hoping the rider withdrew from XC...

That rider was a couple of rounds before me - thank goodness she's okay! I hate to say it, but rounds like the one you mentioned seemed to be the norm rather than the exception. I saw a number of falls, quite a few eliminations due to refusals, and lots of people who barely scraped by due to the general saintliness of their horses.
I feel your pain about the dressage - my guy has only been in solid work with me for about 5 months and is a big re-schooling project in terms of the dressage. Let's just say that his average score is 20-30 points higher than my last event horse, who is now my dressage horse. ;)

checking in...
I finished the day with a foolish permagrin (because xc was too much fun) but our performance was a bit spotty. We had our worst dressage score ever, and not only did we pull a rail in stadium my horse totally saved me at fence 8 and 10. We went clean xc but my horse scared my by jumping the stone dust in front of the ditch AND the ditch. The reins, my stick went flying but somehow I landed in the tack. :)

Had our worst dressage score ever even though it was a gorgeous test. (45.3)
Had a 4 on our lengthened trot with the comment "no lengthen shown at all" WHAT?!?!
yeah, my horse lives to lengthen and pretend to look like a GP dressage horse so i dunno. ><
And well, I was one of those people eliminated in SJ for refusals.....he was not on his game and I failed to put on my "I will kill you if you don't move off my leg" face and yeah. =[ Not too cool.
So we got in the car and drove to BCHP and did some hardcore XC schooling! haha
I did see that REALLY bad fall in the Jr. Training Division. I was shocked!
Congrats to everyone that did well and was safe! :)

I hope that the rider who had the bad fall is okay! I heard 'rumors' about it, did not see it so dont know what really happened.
The horse who had could not get spots in SJ... if it was in Novice... then that was us:no: While in warm up he hit the vertical really really hard. I thought he was okay, as I walked him around for a bit, after the sting went away, we went over the 'x' then the oxer. He was seemed fine.
So we went in the ring, then all #$% broke loose:sadsmile: He will sometimes 'pop' the first SJ fence on courses, never does this xc mind you. At first I thought okay, thats out of his system now, but then he went behind my leg and I was getting no implusion at all out of him.
We did retire in SJ, and did NOT go xc. My boy began walking short in the right hind on the way back to the trailer. So he got hand walked, iced, poultice, wrapped and we went home. Today he is doing much better after a magnetic treatment last night and this afternoon. Message is set up for Wed evening, too. He is just tight in that hind now.
Something just is not right with him. Our season is over now... he is getting all the R&R treatment with a few weeks off.

She was my judge, and I know my horse is no dressage horse, but I've consistently gotten 5's 6's and 7's, but nope, not a single 6 yesterday. 4's and 5's! I was appalled because I thought we had improved a lot.

and tarheelmd. I actually was happy :D with a dressage test in the 40s. We finished on our dressage score, which was good enough for a pink ribbon in TR. :D Returning from XC I heard 1 really bad fall in stadium  and looked over to see fence 4 completely demolished and a rider slow to get up - rider and horse appeared fine back at the trailers afterwards. Didn't have a very good stadium ride, but my horse was a champ. Thought both course rode real nice, was concerned about the triple combo in stadium, but it rode better than it walked I thought. And I thought my fella might have some issues with the water, but he plopped right in. Beautiful day, almost too hot. Someone told me GRC did the photography?:)

I have to say, I cracked up reading the scores and comments on my test. In my other life, I play a DQ - I can competently school a horse through PSG/I1 and have spent enough time on the longe line so that my seat usually gets me no less than an 8 for the rider score, maybe a 7 if I'm riding like a landed fish.
Earlen Haven gave me a 5- for the rider score. Not just a 5: a 5"-".
I'm almost impressed with her for that, in a sick sort of way.

I recieved a 5 with the comment "Rider needs to ride with her mount not behind it"

That's a new trend in judging - adding a + or - to indicate "you just barely scraped by" or "work just a bit harder and you'd get it". Doesn't affect the actual score though.
Needless to say I was laughing my butt off. I won't go into all of the comments at the bottom but I would LOVE to see her ride my guy - he's a real reschooling project on the flat and NOT easy.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I was in Ring 1 with KC Van Dyck and my comments included "more bend" "more bend" and "more bend" when I had been bending! My horse and I have only been in dressage training since July so he's going to be stiff, but he was bending gr! And my horse did his signature face scratch AFTER the halt but she gave me a 4 for a face scratch! I thought it was pretty obvious the final movement was complete so I let him scratch ugh. ): Oh well, I'll just do hardcore dressage this winter so if she judges me next season, she'll have to give me at least ONE 7! :D

That's funny! And good of you to keep a cheerful attitude.
A friend of mine shows her TB in "regular" recognized dressage (everyone thinks he is a warmblood) Second level 3 and 4, and consistently gets scores in the mid to upper 60's, from O and S judges. She rarely gets out of the 40s in eventing, and gets comments that she's pulling on her horse. This horse (I've ridden him) is impossible to pull on -- it takes all you have to FIND him!
I was ready to quit this spring, when a judge rewarded me for pretty much the opposite of good training, balance, rhythm, and contact (it was an experiment, with back to back tests at a schooling show. I rode a certain way to see how it would score, figuring it would be awful but I wanted to see, and the judge said "well THAT was an improvement!") My poor trainer had to talk me down from the ledge and told me "you either need to continue on the right/correct path you are on, ignore the eventing judges, and know that you are training your horse correctly, or you need to ride poorly and go for better scores. It's your call."
I am very competitive and it is very hard for me, but I'm ignoring them.

I didn't pick up my test...I figured why bother, it was not worth the traffic to wait for it...now I am curious as to her comments! I had the infamous Ring 2 judge, too! I was a bit surprised at the score, since it was much better than last year in the same ring and I won last year! (14th I guess this year). Six points lower! That's odd. I was in the same division however as some very nice warmbloods, but I did watch a few tests before me, and one of the nice movers with a pro aboard was above the bit throughout MOST of their transitions...I saw later this horse and rider pair scored a 29....that would mean at least some of these transitions must have been scored higher than a 6....I don't think a hollow transition with horse throwing its nose above the contact for three steps is considered "good".
I was late with one canter transition but the lengthening was as good as my horse can do, and I was thrilled with a square halt at the end, too. I did notice the judge was NOT parked on center line - did anyone else notice that? She was to the right.
So if you got comments that you were not on center line but off to the left - disregard....?:))) Ah well. I too am competitive, Colliemom and it is dismaying that the judging is so poor sometimes at the lower levels -- as if we 80 percent don't care what our dressage tests mean or it doesn't matter how much warm-up we have, we can ride anytime, don't keep the judge waiting even if it's 20 minutes before your scheduled time....

I was in ring 3 and thought the dressge judge scored my test appropriately. Can't remember her name, but thought her comments were dead on for my test. Ring 3 was a distracting ring, as well, barn with loader moving manure, etc. - and it appeared she was pretty gracious about the distractions (ie, when the loader banged and my horses head popped up - I think I got the benefit of the doubt).

Are you #30, on the paint? For some reason my computer brought up my pictures using your link, no clue why, but I saw the picture of the paint when I was browsing.
My guy is too busy trying to rocket around to have his knees up quite that much - he tends to lift his forearms nicely but fold his lower leg so his feet are by his stomach. Not quite in need of a bellyguard, but some days I wonder.
Edited to add: I tried to link to pictures, but it'll only link to the first one of the set. And it took me so long to remember what number I was, too! If anyone feels like looking at a random stranger's pictures, I was #24.

Thank you! We've been trying to improve some things...whether or not he'll jump is never a concern, but trying to make the trip smooth is always a challenge with this guy. Radnor was only our 3rd event together, so I'm reasonably pleased. I always leave dressage a bit ticked off and come off of XC with a huge smile. :D I'm guessing you feel the same way after XC - your guy looks like he enjoys his job!
Care to guess how old he is?

Number 123. I'm ecstatic because there is a great sequence over the one XC fence that is nearly textbook perfect! :D

takethestage - out of curiosity, do you have any problems with your horse getting too quick? I noticed that your toes are turned out so far that it is actually starting to de-stabilize your position, and your heel is digging into his side. You might also try shortening your stirrups a hole or two so you can get out of the saddle a bit better for galloping and jumping.

Thanks for the tip! He is forward, but never too fast, in my opinion. I've had that position problem for a while now and I haven't found a good solution.

Care to guess how old he is?Since you asked the question, he must be older? He looks about 8 or 9.

He's 21 :D, and moving back up to prelim next spring. When people see him in person they usually guess 5 or 6 - he's fit enough and loves his job enough that I can never get him to walk back to the trailers/stabling after XC - he jigs like a racehorse approaching the starting gate. I'm very lucky to have a free lease on him - he did a lot of prelim and some intermediate. He's teaching me how to do upper level XC, and I'm teaching him dressage .
My last event horse had enough problems XC that once I knew she couldn't handle prelim, she became my dressage horse. Now that I have this guy, I realize just what an amazing thing it is to go out there on a horse that lives to run XC.

he looks great. It seems like that axiom for humans 50 is the new 30, can also be applied to many horses 25 is the new 12.
