I thought that bridle on Dressage Today back in January was really great, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I tried a google search for it on a whim a couple of weeks ago, and found a company that is making it! www.newportridingsupply.com
I was so excited! I was near a measurer (who knew such a thing existed) and so I opted to have them come out and measure the horse. It was a really cool process, and the sample they showed me was amazing... I haven't seen leather like that in a long time, and the bridle fits perfectly
Anyway, I am so excited to get it, it looks so great on my horse, and the customer service was really excellent. I can't wait to take it to a show!

I remember that bridle, it was lovely.
Too bad they are in CA. I think flying to PA to have a bridle made would be a little exessive for the hubby to take. LOL

I'm in Virginia, and they have a fitter in VA now too. She was great.
Depending on where you are in PA, I'm sure it could be arranged for her to travel to you, I paid a travel fee for her to come. They had a couple of other models available, I bet a group measure would be attractive for them.
I'm sure they could figure out something with you. I was very impressed with them from the initial contact.

Can I ask about how much it cost for measuring and for the bridle?

This bridle was first seen on the Jan 08 cover of Dressage today. I tracked down the horses owner and finally got to Steve Kampf of Newport riding suppley.
He sent me a bridle to size to my horses and it was truly amazing. ALL horses went better into the contact. I got addicted and used that on as my ONLY bridle on all 8-10 horses that I ride. It is featured in the Emporium of the Oct 08 Dressage Today .I just got 7 new bridles for my horses and several clients horses. the workmanship on the bridle is excellent and Steve will work with you to get the exact fit for your horse. I know I sound like an advertisement but it is NOT. I am just an advocate for happier horses and the horses Definitely seem happier and more comfortable

what is different about this design that caused the improvement in the horses' way of accepting the bridle?

Does he have a website?
Never mind, found it:

I would also like to hear what makes it different.

I thought the whole experience was very reasonably priced. The fitter turned out to be only about 30 min from me, so the travel fee was $25. The bridle was $485 with my choice of reins. There were a few up charges on some options I didn't get, and the bridle is lovely on my horse.
He really likes the way the flash attaches on this model (they call it "The Newport" I think) because he doesn't get such a pressure point on his nose from the tab like on my old bridle. The crown is nicely padded too. He looks very handsome, and he loves it.
I was hesitant to call them at first, because they are such a new company, but the only obligation was the travel fee, so I figured if the bridle wasn't good, I just wouldn't buy it. But the bridle is fabulous, and service was amazing.
She may have mentioned that this was an introductory price, so I don't know how long it might last, but after having seen the bridle and having it measured, I would have paid more. I haven't seen such nice work in a while.
And it saved me the irritation and expense of having to buy 2 bridles to get a fit and an extra browband, because that is how my old bridle got fitted. All in all one of the more pleasing experiences I have had in a while.

We merged two recently started threads about this bridle to keep the info together. The OPs don't appear to be in cahoots.

Sgray,
I think that because it sits higher on the horses nasal bone AND it is much wider it offers more comfort for the horse BUT if the horse tries to evade the contact it is more steady to keep him in his place.
hope this helps.

LoL- I didn't even know the other one existed. My last post was in response to Anselcat. Thanks
