View Full Version : Show name help needed - trying a poll

I am in desperate need of a show name for my 15 month old filly. I am trying to get her lifetime USEF registration done before the end of this year so I can get the discount!
She is by Cabalito (Hano) out of a Holsteiner/TB mare and will hopfully be my faithful AO hunter one day. I am in LOVE! LOVE! LOVE with this filly and she has been a joy to deal with since I bought her as a weanling.
Her barn name is Claire and she is a big bay girl with 3 socks and a star, stripe, & snip. She is a lovely mover with an amazing temperment.
She is not able to be registered with any applicable breed registries, due to the fact that her dam's sire (Lured) is unregistered...something about his papers not making it over the pond when he was imported. Anyway, my point is, that her show name does not have to start with a C after her sire, but I have been leaning in that direction just because.
I am sorry to bother y'all with yet another naming thread! :o
I am also open to any suggestions!

What's her dam's name/pedigree? I can say that I don't like Clair Bear - too cutesy.

Her dam is Last Remarque by Lured (Holsteiner) out of Remarqued (TB).
Thanks! :)

There are probably other horses out there named Clarity.
I would check the USA Eq horse listings. I also think it is hard to name a horse until you know its personality and what it looks like in person.

Just FWI- Clever Trick has been taken as a TB name. One of my guy's relatives, actually. ;)
BTW, Claire De Lune sounds pretty, nice image.

I like Claire de Lune!
For those of you that like to get ideas from pedigrees - here's the dam, Last Remarque: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/last+remarque
And the sire: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/cabalito

I also like Clairvoyant, but the only one I didn't care for at all was Claire Bear. You don't have to stay with known words either. My horses name is the word for 'gift' in Tahitian (or something like that-its been a while) I found it on a translation website, then I changed the first letter to the same as her daddy. It's a very nice name, easy to pronounce and short-which I like.

Make sure you get the USEF number before October 31 do not wait until the end of the year. You will then get "grandfathered" in and not have to pay the new $30 USHJA horse fee that starts Nov. 1st that you will have to now get in order to show.

I actually like Claire Bear but not for this particular filly. If she were a pony, maybe ...
If her breeding were Irish I'd suggest Clare Bay, or one of the actual bays off the coast of County Clare (Donegal Bay, etc.). I mean, you could name her Clare Bay anyway.
Plain Speaking (clarity and "remarque" [remark])?
Fair Claire (she's got Fair Trial on her dam's side; he's got Phalaris and Scapa Flow)
Remarkable (has someone else already suggested this? if so, sorry to repeat)
Repeat Please (just occured to me; "Last Remarque"; and "repeat that last clear round, please" ;))
It's Clear to Me
Lasca (sort of combines "Caba" from her sire and "Last" from her dam and there was a quote in a James Michener book: "Lasca used to ride on a mouse gray mustang by my side...)
Klara (German "Claire")
All Clear
Clearly Stated

I like Claire De Lune!
Clairvoyant  But I like it too!
How about "Simply Remarqable"? ;) Or "Clever Remarque"??? :uhoh: Or, "Clever Chick"....
How about "Clairiton"??? You know, like that allergy medication?! Maybe you could get the company to sponsor your classes for you.... Sorry, I'm always thinking of ways to save a buck.... ;)

OK, I can't quit ...
Cabalito Bay
Cordoba Bay (Cordoba, Cabalito's sire)
Her breeding is just begging for "Lurid Remark" but that would not do at all.
But "Lured" as past tense of "Lure" -- Luring, coursing --
Claire of Course ???

Nice names all - but I think Well Spotted shows real talent! (sorry, no suggestions). I usually find you have to pick a name, or two, and let her "wear" it for a while before it begins to fit.

Thank you, Foxtrot's! :D
I agree with you and monalisa -- I like to get to know an animal before giving him or her a name--I usually find that the animal will sort of name itself, or that one of the names I've had in mind suits it better than the others I've thought of.

I really love Clairvoyant (7 horses with that name registered with USEF) and Chick Flick (1 pony reg).
I also still love Clarity (3 reg).
What about Claire Choice?
Wellspotted - my trainer owns the dam & we thought he was going to name her Lurid Remarque but he chickened out and did Last Remarque. ;)
I am horrible at show names...I can do dog names, barn names, etc. I have owned my current ammy hunter since he was 3 off the track. He came with the barn name Opie (JC registered Opnus) and a week before our first show, I registered him as "Opie Taylor", like from the Andy Griffith show. It does fit him even 12 years later, a trouble making red head! Ack!
Please keep 'em coming...:D

 Good move, trainer!
I like Pirateer's suggestion, Au Claire, too.
Claire Star
Star Bay (unless it sounds too much like a bay on the Starship Enterprise!)
Enterprise (finding a name for her is certainly an enterprise;))
what color bay is she? blood bay/dark bay/etc.?
Baydazzled? (bedazzled? NOTHING like "aghasted" -- I still say that is NOT a word! :D )
Cordovan Bay (if she is blood bay/mahogany bay she is sort of the color of cordovan leather?, and I Cordova is an Anglicized version of Cordoba)
OK--this one I really like--look at this map of Spain, near Cordoba--
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=cordova+spain&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&resnum=1&ct=image
Go south a couple of inches down the A4--

Love that name, and the song...so pretty. Very hunter-y. Id take that over any of the other names mentioned. Puts a very pretty and soft image in your head, especially if you know the song!!
