I drive 34 miles round trip to the barn everyday... sigh sometimes twice a day five times a week. I work out there so I don't have much of a choice

About 26 miles one way, which turns into around a 40-45 minute drive taking the slower back roads because I hate dealing with traffic.

20 miles each way. On weekday evenings, I get to deal with Minneapolis rush hour and construction too. It can take up to an hour to get there on some nights.

From Home 7 miles
From Work about the same.
I am SPOILed. That also means I am totally not willing to move to a barn where I could have a nicer bigger indoor and instruction. I couldn't get there as often so what would be the point....?

This is the closest (aside from when they lived at home) that I've ever had my horses....5 miles.
But there have been times when I've had to keep a horse about an hour away. That SUCKS.

about 300 feet, my barn had to be far enough away so my hubby won't barf from the smell. He doesn't deal well with smells. you should see him at the fair in the dairy and swine barns. poor thing. But my hay barn is about 10 feet from the house

The furthest I've ever had to board my horse was 3 1/2 hours one way :( That only lasted a month, thank goodness. It was an emergency situation.
Right now, I'm driving 22 miles from my home one way. Add an additional 13 miles from work.
In a month, I'm moving to just 3 minutes from the barn :D:lol::);):cool::cool: Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I can hardly wait!

Before I retired my mare and went on riding-hiatus for now, I was doing 70 miles each way, 140 round trip, to get to the barn and trainer I wanted to work with, and to navigate Atlanta traffic. Believe it or not, the 70 mile drive was less stressful than the prior 35 miles-each-way drive that had far worse traffic. But, it definitely wore on me in the end because it was hard to do with my job, which itself is demanding.

43 miles one way. Thanks to the moronic MoDOT construction, which has closed down an entire stretch of major interstate for two years (if we're lucky) it is now over 50 miles. Three interstates, one state, one county and then the local road.

At home it's 24 miles from my house to the barn (about 34 mins without traffic). Driven twice a day every day. (The MoDot construction missed my route thankfully...although a good portion of it is on 40/64)
At school it's only about 10 mins from my house to the barn (5 min from campus to the barn) driven twice a day everyday.

HA I have you all beat by...well a lot of miles.
I drive 160 miles round trip 2 days a week (from home) and 132 miles two days a week (from work) for two (soon to be three) of my horses. I drive 36 miles round trip three days a week from home for my other two horses, and I make the same drive from my RI farm to my MA farm four days a week, which adds another 20 miles onto the whole thing. The good news is that even though it's 160 miles, it's all highway driving, so it only takes me 15-20 more minutes than all the back road driving that I do to the barn that's closer mile-wise. Between just going to ride my horses and then traveling to shows almost every weekend, I've put A LOT of miles on my car in recent months!!

10.2 miles, which would be fantastic if I ever had time to go. :( Straight down 441, for those of you familiar with Florida...I get to drive across a state park prairie reserve and see some gorgeous sunsets, as well as the occasional wild horse or bison. Trainer's barn is a 40 minute drive, longer with a trailer.

Punkie's the only one who's got me beat. I drive 57 miles (on the nose) one way on Parking Lot 75 N in Atlanta. With the "no gas" thing going on, right now it's at about 3 times per week... previously it was 5 - 6 times/week.
ETA: The going up there in Atlanta traffic has definitely taken me three hours before. With no traffic, I can do about an hour-five and 43 mpg.

Sep. 25, 2008, 02:19 PM
Approx. 8 miles each way -10-15 mins, depending upon traffic. ride usually 5-6 days, check him every day, barring a commitment that keeps me at work or the like.
Furthest I've boarded was about 45 min (an hour in commute traffic) away.
Then there were the days when I lived in SF, worked in Oakland, and boarded in Danville. I drove to work on Monday (counter-commute), then on to the stable for a total of about 36-40 miles, then took public transportation (BART, bus) back, usually arriving home around 10:30 or 11:00 P.M. Then I'd use public transport to work and barn for the rest of the week, drive home on Fridays, drive to barn on the weekends. What a draaaag that got to be. Finally moved to live near horse, commute (public transit) to work.++

From work the ponies are 7 miles all freeway with no traffic, takes me about 15 minutes to get there (stupid parking garage at work!). From home they are about 11 miles which still only takes about 15 minutes as I just drive straight down Hwy 4. I live about 2 miles on a empty street with no stops or signals and the barn is 1 mile off with no stops or signals so you can drive fast!:) Luckily I work insane hours (6am to 3pm) so I don't really ever see traffic which is good as all my driving is on 242, 680, and 4. Plus I have 3 horses and work at the barn everyday and still get home at around 7pm!

Wow, I'll have to count the steps to my barn now :)... but its about 800' up a big hill from my house. I'll walk in nice weather but usually take the golf cart, or in yucky weather, the truck. I go at least twice a day. The barn where I take lessons is about a 25 minute drive from home or 30 minutes from work, and I go twice a week. When I boarded, my horse was 35 min. away and I went 4-5 times a week.

20 mi one way from the house, but just 9 mi from work... so if I do a RT from home to work then to barn then home again, it's 48 miles... But then if I add in a trip to see my retired horse (who's at a different place), well, then add 20 miles RT to that...
I drive too much. I hate Houston.

35 miles one way for one horse; and about 20 steps to the others. The one I keep at the barn is in training and board is free for me so I can't complain. I help out with billing and pick up their feed so it's a pretty sweet deal to have a nice stall with paddock, indoor and outdoor, pasture turnout, etc. Unfortunately this may change very soon in that case I may have to sell her.

20 miles round trip, usually takes me 20-25 minutes which I don't mind. Going I get a chance to decompress from work and coming back I get to think happy thoughts about the nice time I had with the horses and plan dinner. My commute to work is even less-only 3 miles from home-so I feel very lucky that I don't have waste too much time in my car. I get out to the barn about 5 days a week in the summer and about 3-4 in the winter.

About 18 miles from home. A little less from work.
It takes 25 minutes from work
30 - 35 from home
I go 6 - 7 days a week.
I been as close at 12 minutes and as far away as an hour+. I still always go the same number of times per week.

From Work: 5 miles... about 10-12 minutes (all back roads)
From Home: 18 miles... about 20-25 minutes (back road to highway to back road)
From Home to Work: 8 miles.... about 20-25 minutes (all back roads w/ lots of traffic lights... no choice)
So not too bad compared to others I've read. :)
I go out 5 days a week (3 weekdays and weekends). If hubby is in town and not traveling for work, I go straight from work. Cuts down on the mileage... that way I don't have to go home first to let the dogs out.

I can see a show barn- the one i used to ride at since i was 8- from my house, but i ended up not getting along with the trainer and therefore drive 2 hours from wisconsin to mundelein, il. i spent $1800 on gas in a little over a month. 31 miles each way. The first 15 are freeway, and not bad except at rush hour. The next 5 or so are strip mall h*ll, and then after that I'm out in the country and it's pretty and the speed limit is 55 -- nice. Last 3 or so miles are even nicer but with a lower speed limit. I can get there in 40 minutes if the traffic gods are smiling on me.
The other horse I ride is 30 miles away, in the same general direction, same freeway for the first 26 miles. That can be a 30-minute door to door.
It takes 15 minutes to get from one horse to the other, all on country roads.

Right now the barn is 40 miles (about an hour's drive 1/2 highway 1/2 small roads) but we've moving today and I think the trip will be about 50-52 miles each way. It will be mainly highway and should take about the same amount of time - one hour each way.

I had resisted moving there because of the distance, but the care is so phenomenal, I can't imagine them being anywhere else.

Only six (6) miles...
No traffic, unless you count Amish buggies. Nothing heavy, unless you count the cows in pasture. Lots of great scenery, from Amish farms to covered bridges.
Well worth the long drive to a really great facility. Groomed and un-groomed trails with lots of places to ride. Horse to acreage ratio is fantastic, some great grazing pastures. Outdoor arena.
We'd drive much further, if we had to, to be a such a quality facility.

From school it's about 16 miles, give or take, which figures out to about 25-30 minutes one way. From home it's 56 miles or and hour fifteen minutes one way. Now we see why I am searching out an apartment by school.

I walk about 50 feet. :)
Where I boarded for 5.5 year all through college, my drive was about 5 miles. That worked out well since I did self-care board.

I really can't believe there are people closer to the barn than I am when I can throw a rock from the porch and hit my barn!

22 steps without going outside
OK, now I am really jealous! 63 steps, and they're all OUTSIDE!!! Wonder if I could move the house and.....
:D  :)
My husband told me that we could board our two horses, but when he realized how much we would have to pay for board, he realized that we could buy our own acreage for less. And five years ago, we did.

26 miles RT. My old barn was only 16 miles RT - but they were the ones with the horrendous dust, so....I'll take the 26. It's the 'second-closest' boarding stables to my house. the 'third closest' is more like a 38 mile RT, and it just gets worse from there.

My barn is less than 15 minutes from my house and about 20 minutes in traffic from my office.
