Super halt, and I love the pic of Bonnie stretching her forelegs as she comes down from the Weldon's Wall.
Y'all make it look easy!

I love the Weldon's wall photos as well. You always amaze me the way that you SMILE around your courses!!! I manage to bite my lip half the time (concentration, I swear!) and look terrified while you look like you're having the time of your life :)

Great pictures! You look like you are having such a good time- I love your smile!
I think the fabulous halt and the weldon's wall are my favorites as well.

The smiles in stadium, I assure you, were self-deprecating "you're such an idiot" smiles, at least some of them. :p I got a long distance to #1 and when I do that I tend to flap my elbows, which my trainer constantly berates me for doing. Sure enough, one big flap over fence 1. The smile through the triple, though, is genuine--first one she's ever really done in competition and she nailed it. :)

*Sniff* Baby's so grown up! You should be proud (I'm sure you are).
I love picture 81 -- land and gallop on! She looks so powerful.

Ditto on the halt and the ditch-wall pix. She is just eating it up out there. You should be so proud of how well she's come along. Cheers!!

Lynn,
She looks great. Out of curiosity, what type of a bit are you using XC?

That's a Myler combination, the very short-shanked one with just a regular Myler snaffle mouthpiece. If you see how she lands off the brushy log jump (very downhill and on her head) you can hopefully understand why this lifelong snaffle Nazi has gone to something to lift the mare UP at the gallop. :p She really goes well in it, and the nose action serves the purpose of me not having to haul on her mouth all the time to re-balance if/when she gets going on her forehand. I school in a regular snaffle, but when she's tired and/or really pulling, it is so much nicer to just touch her and lift than haul-haul-haul. Keeps me from being under-paced to the bigger jumps, too. Haul-haul-haul is a good way to really kill "forward" on a non-TB horse who is, let's say, not blessed by nature with an abundant fleetness of foot. :D
I should've used the regular snaffle in stadium, she was so quiet. But last time we did a one-day show she was more tired and heavy in stadium. Live and learn!

I was curious because I remembered that you were a snaffle fan. I'm glad that you found a good combination for the two of you. Congratulations on the move-up! It must be very gratifying given that you raised her.

Though I don't need something like that (yet) it sounds like the perfect solution for if/when we move up OR if we get our draft horse going cross-country (for Hunter Paces, Team Chases, etc)
Can someone post a link to it so I know which one it is, exactly?
Thanks!

Mine has the regular mouthpiece, unlike the one in the picture that has multiple joints. Most of the ones I see have 3 rings instead of 2, but I wouldn't ever use that much leverage.
I use bit guards because these bits don't come any larger than a 5" and Bonnie's mouth is more like 5.25"--she will get a little pinch now and then if I don't use the rubber guards.
I resisted even trying this bit because I'm so much anti-hardware, but I realize now that it really works for Bonnie and is so much more humane than pulling hard with every stride to get her to settle back on her hind end. My hope is to have a "snaffle horse" at some point, and I think I could do Novice in a snaffle now, but going a bit faster and with those bigger jumps--I want to make sure my default mode on XC is not PULL all the time.

Dang it.. link won't work for me. I can get it open but there isn't a "hand" for the gallery link so I can't choose it.

Does this (http://www.horse-rider-etc.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=HRE&Product_Code=89-33014-5&Category_Code=M2RC)work? It's a smaller picture, but this is actually the one I have, only the noseband is flat leather instead of rawhide.
Here (http://mylerbitsusa.com/bit_combo.shtml) is Myler's description of the bit and its action. The one in their pics is the 3-ring version.
