We just got back from Flying Cross which is just a fabulous show-major kudos to Mary and Alan-but the temporary stabling etiquette left a lot to be desired. The passages were narrow and made worse by 1) dogs on leashes 2) bicycles on their sides, and 3) hot charcoal grills near the tent! Is it just me or does any of this drive anyone else CRAZY!

ha ha ha ha. no, it's not just you. Just make sure to keep a cold sixer in the trailer - for you AND your horse.

The narrow geographical confines are really tough with a fired up event horse going past all of this and people are there blissfully reading the newspaper while possible instant death is walking inches (literally) away from them. Oy vey!

Google suggests possibly:

Big Fat Meanie

Or switch the letters around and get at RB's true intention. I am guessing though.

I love Flying Cross, but definitely agree that their stabling leaves a lot to be desired. Last year we were unfortunately assigned one of the stalls right in the middle of the row (as in, halfway down the aisle). Luckily, it was in the outside row, so (after checking with management to make sure it was OK) we took the pins out of the corners and exchanged the back of the stall for the front, so my door opened directly outside. We were able to have all our stuff, including chairs and a tarp for shade/shelter, and not be in anyone's way all weekend. It was awesome!

My HUGE pet peeve is dogs off leash when the rules posted in the omnibus specifically state that ALL dogs are to be on leash!!!!! It doesn't say that everyone EXCEPT so and so has to have their dogs on leash, but ALL bloody dogs to be on leash! At our last event, I had my corgi and young lab on leash when 5 dogs, including a snarling jack came at my lab. Ofcourse they all wanted to play, but I got pulled in different directions, with leashes wrapped around my legs... WHILE carrying grain buckets! There are a few repeat offenders here on the West Coast... be it OR, WA, or CA. If my dog were off leash, I'd get fined, but these folks just seem to cause trouble and get away with it because they're well known names. Perhaps on Thursday and Friday dogs could be off leash on the XC course where they won't do damage to others.
Does the rest of the country have this same issue??

My peeve about dogs is mostly to do with their owners--the ones who witness and brag about only great behavior from their dog and are completely unaware that when they leave the dog to go out to eat, either in a stall, tied to a trailer, or in their hotel room, that the dog whines and barks NON STOP. :sigh:

Oh yeah, we have it! Last weekend I was at an event stabled next to a very nice lady with a well-behaved pit bull mix. She kept him tied up at all times. Unfortunately, the jerks down the aisle had 5 rambunctious dogs that they did NOT keep leashed. At one point, I heard them exclaiming to eachother, "Gosh, the only problem I have with my dogs is keeping them happy on the leash! As long as I let them go free they do great!" Well, of course not 5 minutes later I am standing in front of my stall when the pack of 5 runs up and antagonizes the pit bull...who goes completely nuts because he is tied up. All 6 wind up in a huge fight with me in the middle of it, tack, buckets, chairs flying. Then the rude lady has the nerve to come up and comment on how "my" dog is too aggressive...of course it is not my dog (I leave mine at home, thanks very much) and I am in the middle of a howling, scrambling dog pack who have knocked over every one of my belongings. Nice!

Hopefully you're o.k after getting caught in the middle!!! Glad to hear it isn't just here. So, why do people allow this to happen? I'd love to leave my dogs at home, but if my husband comes, there's no one to take care of them. One event in WA has an absolutely NO DOG rule. If you have a dog on the premesis--even IN your car--you'll be fined like $150! Fortunately, that one was close to home for the family.
It got so bad at one event that one of the typical offender's dog actually went after my corgi! (yes, her dog is old and def, but a fairly large mastiffX that is intimidating) I went to the show office and asked that they announce dogs should be on leash, but I have YET to see her dog on a leash!
At our last event, my dogs were tied to the trailer while we were having lunch and the neighbor was going to MOVE because he didn't like the way my lab pup growled at their dog. Well, let's see... their dog was OFF LEASH and pestering mine! Not to mention that there were other dogs coming over and eating my dogs' food and bowling over my daughter in our camping area.
Either control your dogs or leave them at home. There's a reason there are rules and fines.

Here is New Zealand there are only a few events where you are allowed your dog(s). Lots of the events are on private property and so the farmer / owner says "no dogs' and that's it. Concerns are mainly around stock worrying. If even says "no dogs" and someone brings a dog, rider associated with the person bringing the dog is eliminated, no questions. Ignorance is not an excuse. One of my owners once brought his dog with him, not knowing that it was a no dogs place. he ended up leaving the dog in the car and parking it on the road, so that I wasn't eliminated.

1) The jackass who drags your HOSE out and leaves it out to be run over
2) The jackass who does the above and then does not turn it all the way off and flood's the isle or your stall or someone's stall
3) PEOPLE who leave their dog tied, in trailer or what have you the howl and whine and bark. This year at Rebecca some poor dog was in a trailer all day and howled to the top of his lungs.
4) People who (mostly young kids) who will be walking their horses around and let them root threw and eat your hay at the end of your barn isle.
5) I like a little music but bringing your ipod player and playing dirty RAP songs is not pleasant, fun or what I want to hear while braiding or chilling!
6) People who leave XC tape or braid yarn around or in wash racks. I know I know the trash cans are soooo far away and after all your so tired from riding ;-)

Oh, and it's always helpful to put up a stall guard ( leaving stall door open ) so that your not so friendly horse can lay his ears back and snap his teeth like castenets at anything that walks by. There is simply NOT ENOUGH ROOM !
