and this horse http://fltrainerlist.proboards104.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=461 reminds me of a horse i retrained off of fingerlakes that jumped 4' like it was a cross rail.... and only really started "jumping" when we hit 5'... that horse was ridiculously talanted!

Isn't he nice? This horse has personality PLUS! Unfortunately eventing may not be in his future as his trainer would not like to see him going on in a jumping type of career due to his knee strain. Anyone interested in this lovely boy can talk about that with the trainer directly.

For those of you who think you're too far away and that shipping might be too expensive - check it out. I had a FL cutie shipped south a couple weeks ago and it was VERY REASONABLE! The FL gals are very helpful. There are reasonably priced vets to look at the beastie of your choice and plenty of stabling/travel options.

Yeah those two are gorgeous. I can't look at Five Castles without getting teary-eyed, he is the spitting image of my favorite big red horse, now over the bridge....

There are so many nice horses this year, plenty of variety too, something for everyone it seems!

I think we have the best bunch of horses that we have ever had, this year. Of course, I think I say that every year.

I could use some help with Sunshine Johanna, though. The trainer told us that this girl had won over $300,000, and that she would be a great broodmare. So, I thought, I had better look up her pedigree. I can't find it! I tried under every name combination I could think of.

I know some of you are really good at digging out this stuff. Care to give it a try? Here's her listing. She's only seven, so that's not a bad total, especially for the lower end tracks that she has apparently been running at.

qheventer did some research from me and one of the horses we got from Midatlantic Horse Rescue was by River Keen. His name was Beyond the River and I would glady take ten more horses like him. Brave, balanced, naturally on the bit, jumped anything you pointed him at and just a super brain. He was an unraced 3yr when we got him with two very tiny bandage bows that were barely noticable.

I might cave on those two boys if I could sell some others but luckily I have no room. I am sure whoever gets them will be happy. Eventers should take a look!

We should be listing some absolutely GORGEOUS (and not so gorgeous) ;)prospects on the Finger Lakes Trainer Listings Board by the end of this weekend.

Today was cloudy and dark so my photos aren't the best but the horses were really nice. Included in the newest "finest" are some young horses, a horse so "ugly" he is adorable(and a real sweety), a nice dark gelding, a fine chestnut 3 year old, some nice mares....

I know it's mean ;) to post this prior to having the horses up on the board but I wanted to tempt you all with our new "finest". Muahahahaaa!

This is a hard year for folks on the track and off so these horses will be very negotiable to good homes.

I have to list this fellow first: He is so homely that he is adorable! He LOVES skritches and attention.

Very VERY cute dark bay gelding.

A re-list from last year. He asks to be forgiven of his Mohawk hairdo, which is growing out.

Not sure about Super but some horses don't settle and keep weight on at the track no matter what the trainers try. He is certainly very gentle and kind. Most of the horses are offered a HUGE amount of food daily but track life doesn't appeal to everyone.

And...everyone needs a chestnut horse at some point in their life!

Hey tweeter - we have a Finger Lakes trainer that makes the run from here to his farm in Florida every couple of weeks. He's VERY reasonable, and helpful! Getting Super Good to your pasture may not be as hard as you think.

I didn't walk the backside this week, though I was at the track, so this is the first I have seen of these horses, also.

Hanoi looks SUPER this year. He's a lovely animal, and will make someone a great horse.

Since there are already two Finger Lakes threads going, I won't add a third, but will tack this request to this one.

Angela Freda made mention of a certain chestnut who needed a home. That chestnut is Adaptation, and he is, indeed, in desperate need of someone to take care of him.

Adaptation has been an on again/off again listing with us for the last two years. He actually was vetted and had a pending offer on him last year, when the owner decided that he wanted to race him some more. Now, he is definitely done racing, and the owner wants him gone NOW.

Please see his listing here:

http://fltrainerlist.proboards104.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=482

He is a gorgeous animal, and I am praying that there is someone on COTH who can come through for him.

Wow, some beauties. I hope they all find good homes!

Just curious to those of you who go to Finger Lakes often - when we bought our farm we had a neighbor who bred TBs and had boarded them here; we continued this for one season but it was basically a disaster. But we had several weanlings that I boarded for a few months (until they were sold via Fasig-Tipton as yearlings) and I've seen a couple of their names at Finger Lakes, including the fillly of the mare I ultimately bought from this same breeder.

I'm not interested in actually buying this filly myself but keep searching for her....just to make sure she doesn't end up in trouble somewhere....I would try to help if I could. Curious if anyone knows her or any of the others we had here. (Plus I have baby pics)... :)

I can PM you with details but just curious if the track is small enough that people in the know would have any idea how she's doing?

Louise
Sep. 28, 2008, 08:23 PM
Feel free to PM me with details. I know a couple of folks I can ask. The track isn't all that small, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to ask a few questions.

That was me.
I would give my eye teeth for this horse, I have followed him since last Fall. I have his picture in my tack trunk to remind me that there are other beautiful, talented horses out there- that my horse being older and not well does not equate the end of my riding.

I had hoped that the stars would align and I would be ready for him when he came back up for retirement. Alas, I am not ready for my second horse right now. Our house is about 75% done and then we need to fence the 2 acre field. I am ramping up a new business and it's commission (Nuff said?).

The most important thing here, imho, is that we get this horse a soft place to land, preferably a place with lots of turnout, and fast. He's built, gorgeous, uphill and red. (ok the last one is a personal 'thing')
Someone go get him, please?

(wanted to note that if things get desperate and there is a need to collect $ to secure him, count me in for some of that. It takes a village.)

It's worth mentioning that the Five Castles horse is not only by River Keen, but is out of a Roy mare. Roy is a son of Fappiano (through a Never Bend mare), and I've seen more than a few nice Roy offspring in the hunter ring, so it looks like he may have that Fappiano touch when it comes to hunters. That's a Very Good Thing. ;)

That is so kind.
I also have had a PM of an offer for a potential place for him to go.

I also want to throw out there, for anyone wanting to help, I am offering up my large, wooden trunk for $500 or BO, to support Dapper where ever he lands. Not for him to come to me, but to help defray the cost of where ever he goes.
I'll get pictures of it, and measurements, and if anyone is interest please PM me.

(Mods: Is this considered soliciting? I truly only want the $ to go to support Dapper and get him out of there, so can we call it a donation- to Dapper or to FLTAP- to raise funds to save this horse?)

Angela, I had some very kind offers of help when I was putting together my PO deal. If you are serious about wanting Adaption, but need more time or have some other restrictions, I feel confident that this group can come up with the help you need to make it happen! If you need time, we can fix that. Heck, it took me about a month to get PO home...

Please don't be ashamed to let us know just what it would take to let him end up with you. COTH'ers can do some amazing things - I've seen it happen! No news here.
I called the trainer to see what the ideal R&R situation would be for Dapper and have yet to hear back.

Please! If someone can take him now, go get him!
And then tell us all about it with pictures, please! :D

Maunder any chance that if one of those FLTAP horses gets adopted, Dapper could go into the adoption program there? Maybe with some sponsors support?

Hey guys.
Bad news here.

I have to bow out of offering this horse a home. It appears our well for our house is costing us about 5 times what it was estimated and I just can not commit with that additional $12,000 hit to the budget.

Please lets get that horse out of there, and let me know any way I can help.

Ok the trainer called me back and I have more info about 'Dapper Dan'

He's had turnout in winter, with up to 4 other geldings with no issues, no studdish behavior.
He has good feet that do not get reshod through the winter, and are able to be shod at the start of the season.

She also mentioned another one she has, Grandpa Circle (??). Maunder/Louise is he listed?
5 y.o. 16hh ish, brown with a white blaze, decent to handle- her 10 y.o. daughter leads him around the backside fine.
This one she would like to see go to a kid- I mentioned POny Club kid and she agreed that would be ideal.

Oh and on a personal note, she is in the same barn with the trainer of my horse, I told her to tell him my 5 year old son gets pony rides on him and that he is still going strong at 23. That should give Jimmy a chuckle.

I have been reading along hoping the best for you that this could work out. I am so sorry -- I really know what a hand of cards we get dealt in life sometimes.
I am too far away, I would pitch in in a heartbeat and take in an animal in crisis and find it the right home. I have a gaggle of very capable teenage girls who are light handed and sensitive patient riders that would give anything for a chance to own and work with one of these horses.

Hey guys, just thought I would chime in. Dap is a dollface and his goatie friend, while the bane of my existance, seems to have made him a much happier horse. The pesky little goat, however, scares the bejesus out of my two year olds. I mean you'll see the bejesus just lying there in the shed row in a pile behind my two year olds that refuse to get anywhere near Daps little goatie friend. Silly buggers! Raise your hand if you know it's October and you're TIRED OF RIDING TWO YEAR OLDS!! So anyway, for a number of reasons that I wont go into on this board, someone needs to take Dap home, and quick! I really would love for it to be Ang. Maybe after a winter of pasture board, she can get something put together.

Since I can't afford a horse my little goats are my mental health! Nothing like a furry little hooved animal to cuddle with. My girls even sort of smell like horses! Ok... I'm dreaming here :lol:but they do smell nice and "girl-goatie"

A tiny word of advice - should the lucky person who brings Dapper get his adorable little pal too you will most likely want to have the little pal neutered. When he grows up he will be stinky if he is an entire male. I have a little wether (neutered male) along with my girls and he is a super nice pet.

A question for Louise and/or maunder - Will Dr. Ohlinger allow people to use the indoor to try a horse if they want to try a horse on the trainer's listing? I'm sure the track doesn't allow non-track personnel to ride and try a horse even in the shedrows.

When I went over with my friend to see Bud, the horse that Silly Mommy just bought, I suggested trying the horse at the Purple Haze barn and Bud's owner seemed a bit strange about it and actually was going to truck Bud to my friends farm in Livonia.

It sure would be nice people could take a horse to Purple Haze barn to try if it was Ok with the trainers and Dr. Ohlinger. I'm sure most people would be willing to even pay a reasonable fee to be able to try a horse rather than buy it without being able to try it.

Louise
Oct. 6, 2008, 06:08 AM
I don't think so, msj. I think that there might be liability issues there. The horses that are with the adoption program are their property, and have usually been backed by one of the folks who run the barn. There are too many risks with unknown horses. The question has never come up. But, I'll ask.

Unfortunately, that's kinda what I figured. :( :( :( I know I'd never buy a horse, or even try him until I'd seen someone ride him so I could get an idea of how the horse went. But then again, I no longer bounce - I go splat. :sigh:

I certainly understand. When I had people trucking in to my farm to take lessons with my trainer, or just friends trucking over to ride in the indoor come winter, I used to keep an additional commercial equine liability policy in addition to my homeowners AND my umbrella policy. When I stopped riding, I dropped the commercial equine liability policy and told people that they would have to pick it up if they wanted to truck in to use the indoor or outdoor rings.

But Louise, please do ask Dr. Ohlinger if it is possible. I'm sure a few more horses might be sold if something like that was available. :)

Hi all.... will try to answer your questions as Louise is out of town.

If you are interested in Rexy please give the trainer a call. He will answer your questions, I'm sure. I don't quite recall the name of the veterinarian at the track that BeastieSlave used for the certificate. Began with an "H"? I'll be at the track in the morning tomorrow and one of my stops is over to see Rexy's trainer. When he says they need to go he means it ... so please if you are seriously interested call him.

Skimmer, the dark horse with the knee, is being looked at by one of our volunteers. According to the trainer he cracked the knee, has a chip in the knee and arthritis has set in. He's young - but not sure what prognosis would be for him. I'd guess and say pleasure only - after surgery for that chip, which is being looked into. One of our volunteers got "that signal" from this lovely horse and will probably give him a home regardless of what his prognosis is. That is what we like to see!

Cat in Bronze is a super mare and also needs a new home soon. There are so many great horses at Finger Lakes and I'm sure I'll have more to list over the weekend.

I don't quite recall the name of the veterinarian at the track that BeastieSlave used for the certificate. Began with an "H"?

Yup, Dr. Hanson was very good to deal with. He also looked at another horse for me - before Eddie. I swear, you guys who are thinking about a FL horse, the vets and trainers really do want to help! I'm so far away that I expected to be pulling my hair out, but every single person that I dealt with was wonderful.

VAHorseGurl, get on the phone. Talk to the trainer, then talk to a vet. I had Dr. Hanson give my guy a basic once over so he could give me his general impression and assess the horse with my needs in mind. When that went well I called the trainer and we began to make plans to send the horse south. I had an extra wrinkle because my horse had to be 'out' ASAP and I'm in GA. Even that wasn't a problem. Another trainer picked him up and took Eddie to his farm until it was time for him to hit the road. Believe me, these things can be worked out!

Beastie, I would LOVE to, but I do not know a thing about OTTBs or retraining one and if you've read anything about me and my guy Pete lately, I have my hands full. I really would like the help, but I may not be the right home for this guy.

I'm not looking for a H/J or Eventer, or even a Dressage horse. I'm looking for a pal-around buddy who will Trail ride and hack out with it just being the 2 of us or in a group.

Ok, I am very interested in Rexy and will be talking with the trainer. I have truck and trailer and am in N. GA. Anyone able to get her a few hundred miles south?

Whats generally needed to take them across several states?

and, if you are unable to pick the horse up yourself, how does the money change hands?

Thanks.

Just left a message for the trainer...or at least I think it was the trainer...call went directly to voice mail..."You have reached the voicemail or "swwooooooosh", please leave a message" lol...anyway, hopefully they will call back.

I can get up there, but not until the 18th...but its all a go on my side...have stall, truck, trailer, funds and no horse....

TXjumper.... if you get ahold of the trainer you can PM me and I'll see him in the morning...

As BeastieSlave said, if the horse needs to leave the track immediately then there is a farm near the track that might take the horse in transition. I could talk to that trainer tomorrow as well or could PM the numbers to you TX jumper.

VAHorseGurl... thanks for your interest in an off the track Thoroughbred. "Trainer favorite" means simply that! The trainer has had this horse for years and the horse has done a good job for him and he truly likes the horse. He'd like the horse to retire from racing before racing gives him an injury. He is on the track right now but I'm not sure when his last race was. Many of these horses would LOVE to be a pleasure horse buddy! Some just need some time to relax and wind down from their athletic career.

Hooray! I love when one of our Finest gets a new home! I told Rexy today about her new place and she smiled.

We'll have some new Finests to list later today or tomorrow.... Just lovely, lovely horses. One coming up is a super sweet mare that would love a person to be best friends with.... next is another super sweet mare that wants a young person of her own to go down happy trails or in the show ring. Pics and descriptions will be up as soon as I can.

These Thoroughbreds are SUPER horses and will do just about anything for you with their big hearts.

A funny note about our favorite Adaptation.... his little goatie friend is just darling with his new mare-friend. Dapper's trainer said that he was fond of picking the little buckling up by his long, floppy ears and tossing him happily about the stall:eek:. "Loves his goat" gets a whole new meaning!;)

I really wish I didn't have to board my horses. I would get a OTTB as a project horse through the winter.

We're pretty proud that a majority of the trainers, jockeys, exercise riders and grooms at Finger Lakes are Good People. Makes us want to help the horses even more most days!

The interim barn owner is also a breeder/owner/trainer and he knows his Thoroughbreds so we relax when horses go to his nice, homey place.

Ok not a really relevant question, but why is it called the Purple Haze facility?

A very good hearted horse woman, whose stable is called Purple Haze, donated an extremely generous amount of money towards the building of the Adoption Center. The horse statue in front of the building even sports a purple halter and the mums in the garden are purple in her honor!

The Center would probably not exist without her help - hence the Purple Haze Center!

I'll check and make sure that he will be available for the sale on Saturday, when we are there. This isn't going to be a auction, by the way. Folks will be escorted through the backside to look at horses that they are interested in. They can then negotiate with the trainer/owner. It would be great to see some folks from the Ohio area there.

Let me suggest the Super 8 in Canandaigua. It's clean, quiet and cheap. It's across the street from Wegmans and the food was fabo and incredibly reasonable. There is a marina close by with a fabulous wine store and a pier that goes out to the lake. The boathouses with living quarters above look like Europe. It's really worth the trip and to get a horse to boot!

I just made my reservation and will not miss this for the life of me! I may find the horse of my dreams or I my not but I won't miss it. Come and enjoy a lovely weekend!

Oh, I can't wait until you see her, relocatedTXjumpr. I hope that you're as happy with Rexy as BeastieSlave is with Eddie.

Now, we have a very special horse listed this week. His name is Bud, and he is a 20 year old track pony. We need to find a very special home for Bud, where he can live out his days in ease, maybe going for an occassional trail ride, and just hanging out in the sun. Honest to Pete, this guy has the sweetest face, and an easy way about him. I hope that there is someone out there who will give him a home.

For some reason, I am unable to link this morning, but, please go to the FLTAP link in my signiture, click on "Finger Lakes Trainer Listings" and look for Bud, who is the second horse down.

And, if anyone can get a link established this morning, I would appreciate it.

And unfortunately I think I have to let the idea of Moss Creek go :( Until I sell my sales project I have here (probably next month) I can't justify spending the money, between buying him and shipping him here. I can easily support him, but I just can't spend my "emergency" money on his initial costs. What if he needed the vet out and it took longer than projected to sell the resell pony? So, :( I hope he finds a great home somewhere though, he's just lovely!!

For any of you "thinking" about going to the sale it is worth it - I got my mare last August (before the sale) She wasn't posted on the website yet, but a friend and I went up there and both came home with someone! We had them both in a 10 mile hunter pace at the beginning of October last year, this year we did 4 of them (won 2, 4th in the other) and have been having a great time. My mare (We Need to Talk is her name, we call her Tessie) is awesome, she trail rides, does ring work and loves to jump. She settled in very easily and has been a great addition to our family!

Hey guys. Thought I would chime in here. Darling Dancer still really really really needs a home!! Please, somebody!? "My" horses are Wide to The Right, Insane Asylum, Casa Dynamite, Madeline's Secret, and Our Lady Eleanor. Wide to the Right is a doll and a half. With some time off for the bow to heal (he's two, hasn't run, and has rebowed and bow he had when we got him. This does NOT bode well for a racing career and I cannot in good conscience let him be sold to a racing home). Insane Asylum is a cool horse who, if he can find someone to mesh with his assertive personality, will make a wonderful horse and good dressage prospect. Lovely uphill carriage and suspension. Casa Dynamite is my boy. If I had the time and money to cut him and house him until he could be turned out with my mare and gelding, he would already be in my care. Unfortunately that is not the case. He is by an Unbridled Song stud out of a Broad Brush mare. Someone, please take him home. I love him almost as much as my own and I won't let him go to just anyone. I will chain myself to his pastern before I do. Secret and Ellie would both make lovely broodmares.
