Hello all of my COTH friends! It has been a while since I have posted about my showing and basically an update so here is an update from our show today.

It was supposed to be mid 80s, sunny, and really nice out. NOT! My first ride was nice weather but while waiting for my 2nd class, it started POURING. Put everything about 15 mins behind. It is just sprinkling, so I go out and start warming up, well like 3 mins before I go in, it starts pouring again. Get under the patio with the picnic tables and wait. Finally it lets up. I head in for my 2nd test. No sooner do I get 1/2 way around the ring, the skies open up. Oh well. I was getting ready to go in, I was just going to ride in the pouring rain!

I rode 1:4 for the first time in a show today. I rode in it twice under 2 different judges, hoping to get qualifying scores for the Championships in November.

First time through, she was going very well but then stupid me paniced after my right canter lengthening and forgot the 1 loop. -2 for off course. DOH! But I was very pleased with her and we received a 59.47 from a pretty tough judge and our first time showing this test.

Second time though, the ring was SOUP. Extremely wet and starting to get slippery in the corners. The mare does NOT like puddles, standing water, rain, etc. I kept it conservative throughout the test. I could have pushed for more trot, more lengthening, but it wasnt worth it. I wanted the experience and the opportunity to ride the test at a show, but I wasnt going to push it for a higher score.

Amazingly enough, we received a 61.3; getting me 1 of the 2 needed qualifying scores! YAY.

I was the only one in both my classes, so I did get 2 blues, but that doesnt really count ya know?!

Overall I was very happy with myself (other than the stupid error!!!) and Layla did GREAT. Mingo, my friends mare, was next to her, and at ALL previous shows, Layla weaves, rears, spins, and goes nuts b/c she gets so attached to Mingo. But today, she weaved a TINY bit and spent most of her time in the stall eating hay. I was so relived that she seems to maybe be finally over that whole panic thing in the stall.

The Moms was there to video for me but its going to take a long time to upload any vids (and they always seem to go faster once uploaded to the computer and make us look like we are hauling around the ring... strange) but I did grab some stills.

We still have a ways to go. But for only showing 1st level in 3 previous classes (1:1 once and 1:2 twice) I think 59.47 and 61.3 are respectable for our first time at 1:4, right? If not, please lie and say it is! haha

Anyways, a few stills. Not really looking for a critique. I was super nervous today and I havent been nervous before a show in like 2-3 years. So here they are.

You guys look lovely together!
Well done!
(and of course the blue ribbon counts . If anyone asks yo, you can totally say you got first place and then wander off whistling to yourself :D you wouldn't believe how many of the Young Riders and juniors do this for their classes. a first place is still a first place! :D )

Gives a new meaning to 'keep on trucking in any weather', LOL! You deserve a lot of 'attaboy's' for keeping on. It looks as if the footing continued to hold up just fine.

You know....this mare has quite a lot of ability to put her hind leg under her...a lot of potential there. Very, very elegant and very feminine mare. Very balanced looking conformation.

The pictures give an impression of a very smooth, quiet, accurate performance.

She's lovely!!!! You guys look very in tune with each other, and it's so nice to see a horse really stretching over their topline and reaching for the bit. I'm soooooooo tired of seeing horses crammed together into a "frame" which is cute but all together ineffective. You've done a wonderful job with her!!!! :)

KTB did not ride in the "rain"......it was monsooning at the show grounds! Just riding a test, much less riding it well was an accomplishment. Both KTB & Layla looked lovely and they did a great job today!

Thanks everyone.

slc - I was actually impressed at the step she had on her in these videos! I was like OMG LOOK AT THAT! Ive never seen her step under so much. Now the goal is to get her stepping like that all the time and try to make her "lengthened" trot her working trot and work on building the lengthening more. Of course there is only so much you can do but I actually had someone come up to me after the class and tell me what a cute mover she is. *jawdrop* Of course, if I could get my stuff together and be more there for her and get my crookedness figured out we would be killing it!

Thanks Miss Sara(h) *not sure if you have an h or not!* It was crazy weather and the rings were def feeling it. Though it was a nice turn out and Id rather it be weather like this than 90+ degrees! Cant wait to see everyone at the next show. Are you going to the Arab dressage show on the 18th? I am getting my last 2 Training Level scores there for Year End. Hopefully at the NFDA Oct show I can get my last score for 1st. We shall see!

Thanks again everyone else. My trainer always says you think you are going to reach Laylas limit and then she pulls it out of the hat and just totally impresses you. She def tries her heart out for me. I loff her so!

Great pics KTB.. You guys have come so far and you should be so proud. Not to mention the perseverance award for riding your test in the pouring rain. Sorry I couldn't be there to see you go.....work sure gets in the way sometimes. Congrats.

Thanks desi. I know how it is with the work deal. There is an Arab socity dressage show on the 18th that I know quite a few of the NFDA members are doing and then the Oct 25th show. Maybe you can make it to one of those? I know all of the remaining shows at Clay County.

I'm planning on going to the Arab show on the 18th. (Note to self, enter show.....) I'm working the weekend of the NFDA Oct. show so I'll have to get my horse show fix in the week before. I'll look for you there! Great to see that we can use that show as a Qualifier - it's nice the local clubs can work together and support participation at each other's shows. Hopefully it will be drier weather by then. (And yes, it's with the "h" :D)
