Hello all of my COTH friends! It has been a while since I have posted about my showing and basically an update so here is an update from our show today.
It was supposed to be mid 80s, sunny, and really nice out. NOT! My first ride was nice weather but while waiting for my 2nd class, it started POURING. Put everything about 15 mins behind. It is just sprinkling, so I go out and start warming up, well like 3 mins before I go in, it starts pouring again. Get under the patio with the picnic tables and wait. Finally it lets up. I head in for my 2nd test. No sooner do I get 1/2 way around the ring, the skies open up. Oh well. I was getting ready to go in, I was just going to ride in the pouring rain!
I rode 1:4 for the first time in a show today. I rode in it twice under 2 different judges, hoping to get qualifying scores for the Championships in November.
First time through, she was going very well but then stupid me paniced after my right canter lengthening and forgot the 1 loop. -2 for off course. DOH! But I was very pleased with her and we received a 59.47 from a pretty tough judge and our first time showing this test.
Second time though, the ring was SOUP. Extremely wet and starting to get slippery in the corners. The mare does NOT like puddles, standing water, rain, etc. I kept it conservative throughout the test. I could have pushed for more trot, more lengthening, but it wasnt worth it. I wanted the experience and the opportunity to ride the test at a show, but I wasnt going to push it for a higher score.
Amazingly enough, we received a 61.3; getting me 1 of the 2 needed qualifying scores! YAY.
I was the only one in both my classes, so I did get 2 blues, but that doesnt really count ya know?!
Overall I was very happy with myself (other than the stupid error!!!) and Layla did GREAT. Mingo, my friends mare, was next to her, and at ALL previous shows, Layla weaves, rears, spins, and goes nuts b/c she gets so attached to Mingo. But today, she weaved a TINY bit and spent most of her time in the stall eating hay. I was so relived that she seems to maybe be finally over that whole panic thing in the stall.
The Moms was there to video for me but its going to take a long time to upload any vids (and they always seem to go faster once uploaded to the computer and make us look like we are hauling around the ring... strange) but I did grab some stills.
We still have a ways to go. But for only showing 1st level in 3 previous classes (1:1 once and 1:2 twice) I think 59.47 and 61.3 are respectable for our first time at 1:4, right? If not, please lie and say it is! haha
Anyways, a few stills. Not really looking for a critique. I was super nervous today and I havent been nervous before a show in like 2-3 years. So here they are.
