I cant afford lessons right now but would love to learn as much as I can on my own. Please let me know if you have found any helpful YOUTUBE videos. I am not looking for olympic quality horse videos but rather training or clinic videos that might be able to give me a better understanding of the sport.

You really have to be very suspicious of the quality of the videos on Youtube. Some of them that have been posted here that were made by supposed experts, were so pathetic as to be hilarious.

If you have limited training dollars, you are better of subscribing to

http://www.dressagetrainingonline.com

which has clinics with well known reputable dressage professionals.

how much does that website cost? I know a lot of the youtube videos are crap, i have looked at a bunch of them. I am sure there have got to be a few good ones. If they are out there I am sure the people on this site know where they are so I thought I would ask.

Agree here too. I love this site and spend a ton of time on it. My three favorite are Courtney King, Catherine Haddad and Chrissa Hoffman. All there of those are super communicators and you get a ton from it.
Also watch the Janet Brown series with Steffan Peters. Its a must watch.

I think you have a good start with the links above. I'm not a fan of DT online--had trouble with charges to my credit card, the new content is slow to come and you don't always get what is promised. I much prefer www.dressageclinic.com

but for free I definitely agree with the suggestions above!

another vote for Dressage Training Online. lots of good information.

really enjoy the judges' viewpoint series: especially the ones from San Juan Cap. last June. Hilda and Janet did a great job.

check out Jane Savoie.
She has several Youtube videos, and you can register with her website to recieve a free monthly newsletter, as well as some very interesting radio interviews that she's done.

I'm saving up for her "Happy Horse Home Study Course". Can't say enough wonderful things about her teaching style.

Good luck!

Some of Cindy Ishoy's clinics have been posted on YouTube. Do a search. The links below (2 parts of one lesson) are from a clinic in our area, and they have had good reviews.

I also had problems with dressagetrainingonline with charges after I cancelled. The only way I would subscribe is if I could pay by check!

I just got an email that Jane Savoie has joined Barnmice (http://www.barnmice.com) and is posting a weekly advice blog there. She is also posting videos and if you are a member you can leave her a message or question about any of her posts. She seems very nice.

Why not subscribe to On The Bit? www.onthebit.com.au I think it's about $AU80+ per year and it is absolutely the best value. Quality training videos (including Steffen Peters) and the strong US dollar will probably buy you a sub for about $US50.

If you're going to look on the internet for 'free' dressage training, I would seriously, seriously urge you to avoid any 'non official' videos. Especially on youtube, there are a very large number of people posting 'how to' videos that are really very incorrect work. One can get a very distorted idea of what is correct. Please consider sticking to videos made by USDF certified instructors, judges and established trainers with some years of experience.

You are right, however..... most of these certified instructors follow their own rules (as they should). Try to find an instructor with whom you can establish that magical click. Maybee this sound strange but; in my 20 years of experience I found out that some instructors are much better in teaching women, while others are much better in teaching men.

The really nice thing about the On The Bit videos (apart from the quality) is that they are all good riders working with lovely horses, at different levels, and just constantly explaining - as they ride (they are miked up) - just what they are doing. There are some really nice Steffen Peters ones too (where he is instructing).
