My grandmother just passed away and my relatives have left me to deal with her horse and donkey. I've talked my uncle into caring for them for at least a week, but after that he's planning on sending them to the sale. I REALLY don't want to take a chance with them at the sale since they were very loved by my grandmother. I am not located anywhere near there and I'm a college student with no extra money (I spent the last of my "fun" money flying out to the funeral), so I can't be there to do anything in person.

These guys are in Sugar Valley, GA, about a half hour away from Sunkissed Acres. This part is frustrating since I'm broke and so far away, but they are not UTD on shots as far as I'm aware and neither has had a coggins or left the property since they moved there.

First one is a 3 year old standard jack with an adorable refined face, though he somehow hasn't been 'snipped' yet since he's been so far away from me. He's probably around 12 hh (maybe??). He's leery of humans, but loves the attention once he gets over his shyness. He is very good at guarding against anything coming into his pasture, but he is not very dominant in a herd situation and will get beaten up by others if they so please. I've been told he can be bribed with feed, but I wasn't able to get near him yesterday when I went to deworm him.

Second one is going to be hard as hell to find a home for since he's not registereds. He's gaited and I'm sure he's at least part TWH, 9-10ish years old, somewhere around 15hh, and the only training he recieved was when I was a crazy teenager and hopped on him to go on trail rides. He's very laid back and loves humans and will let people hop all over him and stand on his back without a halter on in the pasture (Please don't do this...I was a crazy teenager at that time) without moving.

He has pretty decent conformation for a backyard horse, but he's got pretty flat hindquarters (it may be a TWH thing). He looked a bit wormy when I was there yesterday, so I did stop at the feedstore down the street from the funeral home and gave him some Ivermectin. Also, either he's been rubbing the hair off his face or he has some fungus. I think this one would be a VERY easy guy to train and be great for beginners with a bit of work.

I'll see if I have any pictures. Please PM me!!! These guys need upgraded, so I may allow them to be used for a resale project tot he right person. This is a desperate situation since the horse doesn't have much of a hope at auction, but if possible, I would like references (another COTHer, trainer, farrier, vet, or anything) just to make sure that they won't get dropped off to a bad situation.

I found pictures. These are the only ones I have, so they'll have to do unless one of my parents can send me some.

Hey hon, I didnt realize you were in the area. My new cell number is 704-804-0107. Let me know if you need some help. I may be able to get someone to feed them for you while they are in Calhoun. I know several people in Sugar Valley.

What ever you decide, if you need help, please call.

A friend of mine is looking for a donkey as a pasture guard and they have horses as well. She may be interested in them both. She is in south ga. I'll let her know and get back with you.

I was only in GA for the wake and the funeral, but I couldn't stay long and miss class and my internship (in DC- the reason I have no money).

Right now I may have a possible home for the horse, but we would need to find transportation.

On the mention of trailering, When Lightning was 4, I worked with him on trailer loading. He was the easiest horse in the world to load and would actually run up to the trailer and wait for the door to open if it was pulled into the pasture. I have no clue about Zap, but I know that he's going to be a *fun* one to catch since he has had minimal handling.

Right now I'm having a hard time coordinating getting these guys coggins (the least I could do for them) since I found that Uncle was planning to do was give them to a horse trader he knows that would get them coggins so he could then take them to the sale. That way my Uncle wouldn't have to pay to get a vet out himself since he doesn't want to spend any money on the boys. Not to portray him as an evil guy, he's just never dealt with horses before and doesn't want to.

Zap looks like a hoot. Too bad you are so far away (8 hours) and my husband just might consider bodily harm if I bring home another critter. I have a habit of bringing them home when he is on business travel......and he's gone for another 24 hours, haha.

I hope you can find him a home. Best of luck. Can you think of any big horse events in KY, maybe someone has room in a trailer if you ask on some of the other boards. I know on the driving board, people often will ist if they have an empty stall on a trip.

Hi Tblitz
Where in Ky dose lightning need to go to , if it's eastern Ky I could bring him back as far as Knoxville, Tn. and maybe the new owners could come get him at my place , if that would get him a little closer to his destination.
I am going down to see Lori at Sunkiss acres soon to pick up a rescue and I could bring him back this far if that would help

I'll bring him back as far as Knoxville, Tn. and hold him for a week if you can get someone else to bring him the rest of the way . but after a week I'm afraid I'll fall in love with him and have to keep him, I have a job for him and a lot of kids / people to love on him .
If you really want him and can afford his up keep, you will find a way to come get him , wanting something and being able to afford it are two different things , sorry if I seem hard but such is life.
When I adopt a horse out I want to know the recipients have ways and means to care for it.

My friend is looking for a pasture guard for her calves. She would give him a great home. She does not, however, have a way to pick him up. If anyone is coming through Tifton Ga, straight down I-75 and willing to give him a ride, she will take him. You can stop him off at my place, we're just minutes from the interstate. I will then take him to her. I am in school full time and can't get up the road or I would go get him myself. Thanks.

I'm not completely sure what's going on right now, but it looks like the boys may have a home. I was told that it was my sole responsibility to place these guys in good homes, but it looks like my aunt may have done her own placement project to find them a home local to where they currently are. I'm waiting to hear confirmation on whether or not her friend is taking them, but I guess she decided she didn't want her husband to give them questionable futures.
