View Full Version : Jumpstart?

So I know this is pretty early, but the opening date is in a few days, and I'm wondering who's planning on going to Jumpstart?

I am, just BN, but it's my first event in more than a year since I've brought my guy back from an injury. I'm excited. Things are coming along swimmingly. And I can't wait to get back into the game!!

So who else is going??:D

I'm really torn! On that same weekend there are three potential shows to go to--one is local, very close but unrecognized. One is Queeny Park, which advertises a very straightforward, "good move-up" Training, and then Jumpstart which is traditionally also a decent move up course. If Bonnie goes well around Richland next weekend I'm going to aim at an easy Training this fall and the timing that weekend would be ideal. I need to make up my mind pretty quickly--I hate that opening dates are so early, arrrgh!

I'm going. I'm planning to move up to Novice (eek). And if anyone in my area needs a ride, I have space for another horse.

Well... I want to go.. and make a 2nd attempt at prelim.
But I just don't know how im going to get down there. I know a few people who are going, but i don't think I can talk them into going down there thursday evening... and my brother is suppossed to come home from Japan that weekend, so my mom doesn't want me to go, so I won't be able to talk her into letting me borrow her truck and trailer. (like you all needed to know all the details)

DeltaWave--let me know what you decide--I would really like to go. Just think, we haven't been able to show at "the park" once yet this year!

eeee!!!:D I'm already getting so excited and it's a month and a half out. It's just that I went to a hunter pace yesterday and he was perfect. Never looked at anything. I mean yes they were all logs and coops, but that's all there is on BN anyway (I'll say that and there'll be something no one has ever seen before on course,), and it was our first time jumping solid jumps in more than a year, so.....I'm getting really psyched!

If any of you guys decide to go we should get a stabling block like we did at May Daze last year. That was the most fun I've ever had at an event.:)

Ho ho, my buddy slp2 may have made up my mind for me! :D

What is their Training course like, typically? Any scary death drops into water?

DW- I haven't been the last two years, but typically the training course is very soft. I'd say if Bonnie handled Novice at Hunters Run and Richland, she'd be fine there. I think the water was a log at the edge, no drop in, and then canter out (maybe up a little bank out) but my memory is a little hazy. It was a great event when I went, and we are planning on going again this year. See you at Richland!

I'm in! I'm taking my former two-star, now back from retirement horse Harry. Given his current inexplicable outstanding behavior (2 events down- 6 fabulous phases) I am tentatively planning to move him back up to prelim there. Of course, that is pending continued good behavior in 2 more training events. To say I'm excited is an understatement! It is so great to have him enjoying his job again. I can't wait to point him at some bigger jumps!

And, fingers crossed, I'll be coming out at novice there with my new greenie. We had scheduled our debut for July, but an ankle twist sidelined him. He has been sound now on rest for a few weeks and is starting work slowly this week so keep your fingers crossed.

I'm undecided if I should trailer in or pay for stabling....my husband is traveling and I really don't like the idea of trailering in and working off the trailer if no one is around to make sure the horse and I get back to the trailer after xc. I'll have to see how big a crew my trainer is taking out. I guess I can park next to them and ask for someone to watch for us to return. Hmmm...

Anyway, if you all want to get together for dinner at Jalepanos, Cheddars, Johnny Corinnos, or whatever, I'm game.

I'm sending my entry in...First event back from maternity leave! I'm NERVOUS! I'm dropping back to Novice since it's been a year...

Hey Mickey-Where in Southern OH are you?? I can probably give you a ride....

Ok, so in stabling, I'm just going to put "Chronicle BB". If anybody else wants to stable in a block, I guess we can just use that. If not, management will think I'm a fool and I'll be by myself, which would be fine. I don't really care. Hope to see some of you guys there. I'm sending in my entry!!:D

Tuckertoo,

My entry is in the mail. I didn't see your suggestion in time, so put down stabling with Area VIII Adult Riders. Oh well....

Fence2Fence,

If you don't have help, why don't you stable? If we get rain, it would be a pain to work out of your trailer, especially by yourself. Also, are you geared up for South Farm? I have been checking the website, but so far Sarah doesn't have anything up. If our entries were not accepted, I guess that we would have heard? Are you going to the AEC's, too?

Auburn,

I'm really looking forward to South Farm! I practiced my dressage test three times last night. My entry check hasn't cashed yet, so I'm a little worried that I haven't gotten in. I don't plan to go to the AECs this year. I will next year, if I qualify.

I think I've leaned towards stabling at Jump Start. I'll put down 'Chronicle BB' and 'Area VIII riders". Maybe they'll put the two groups together. ;-)

Yikes, I've entered a Training HT on my little bitty homebred baby!  :D

It is sitting here waiting to be mailed, omigodomigodomigodomigod . . .

I can always bump back down to Novice, right? ;)

That must be one of the coolest feelings in the world--breeding, raising, and competing your own homebred. :-)

You two will do just fine!!

Tuckertoo, I am so glad that you are making a comeback!!!

Not sure if we'll be there this year. My friend who rides Solo is just getting back in town (gone 7 weeks), so I'll need to find out if she wants to give it a go or not.

Mick won't be there, as I just had a baby 3.5 weeks ago. Maybe next spring...

If Andrea takes Solo, we'll be sure to stable with you!

Does anybody know if/when they will post ride times? I'm assuming it'll be at the Keeneland Pony Club site. Do they post a list of already accepted entries or do they just wait until they post times? I know it may be too early, since the closing date isn't for a few more weeks. Just wondering.

Shrapnel- I am feeling you- our first prelim too! I am so excited I can't stand it. We need to get through KY Classique in top shape as a last check to make sure we are all set. But I am very optimistic :)

Anyone have any ideas about what the P course usually has on it? water to water jumps, one stride combo into the water, etc?

I was really looking forward to going, but my guy is having water phobia all the sudden. He will not at all go thru water. I checked with the org. about the BN course and she said there is water towards the end. So that counts me out. Everyone have fun. I love that event! It is so fun.

Well, I have a ride down there, and I put my entries in the mail monday.. so hopefully we get in.

This will be our 2nd prelim. And. We. Will. Not. Get. The. Big. E. Agian.!!!
And we'll go around XC clear! (because someone went back and relearned to ride...)

Well, guys. I'm not going anymore...:( I fell off on Tuesday and broke my collar bone. (Totally my fault, remember...ALWAYS wait for the horse to jump first, and don't go for the long spot and jump ahead). I'm pretty bummed because this was to be our first back from Tucker's injury, but apparently it wasn't meant to be. Meanwhile, Tucker will be giving free rides to my sister-in-law and my mother while I heal. :)

Good luck everybody and a have extra fun for me.

Well, I'm not going anymore either. Seems old Harry is no longer interested in jumping, a point he made abundently clear at Chattahoochee. It's fine...just not the right thing for him now I guess.

Add to that the fact that I was probably going to miss it anyway as I am flying down to REHAB to see my husband (very likely soon-to-be-ex-husband) for "family week" on oct 5 and you really have the makings of a wonderful weekend. With 2 lame horses, a third horse that has decided not to jump, a husband who has committed every conceivable marital sin and a job that is painful even in the best of times, my karma seems to be at an all-time low. Probably best to avoid going XC lest I finish myself off for good!

Another person who is out. My horse has some weird hind end strangeness going on. So wecwill be in Lexington that week, but to go to the vet, not the Horse Park. Dammit. And horse #2, my draft cross who has done dressage and stadium (as well as some hunters) is just not ready to do a XC course, even at BN.

Dang--sorry to hear that everyone is having issues right now. Now I'm worried because it's usually when DeltaWave and I try to go to an event together that brings on some malady in one of our horses!!! So, I'll be knocking vigorously on wood for the next couple weeks. I jumped today and everything went well--we are still feeling ready to move up. Next weekend we are planning to go for a little x-c school. DeltaWave--stay safe tomorrow (I know you will)!

Entry status on show websites is the exception, not the rule, around here. At least IME.

I plan on going, moving up to Novice.

Me too! He was great at Classique, which i heard was big for a BN... even though i was scared of those jumps he didn't seem to care! So hopefully, since this is a "move-up" type Novice, we'll be OK... i haven't done a novice since high school though!! (10+ years ago...)

My last (and only) Novice was 3 years ago, before life and the crummy housing market intervened.

I goofed and procrastinated until the last day to get my entry sent in. If I'm not an a waitlist, I'm going to be pleasantly surprised...
