Can someone explain the "ear net" fashion? What's the point? They're inside in an airconditioned stadium that is dead quiet. No flies, bugs, or anything.

Almost every horse has touched the water so far.

I'm here.

And even though it's Sunday, I feel like I need to let you know that I'm a teacher and have the summer off. That's why I've been able to watch and comment on the Olympics so much. I DO have a job!

Horses also wear ear nets to block out noise. They help keep pom poms from falling out.

Ok, these last two have been tough to watch. Are they just not jumping at this level or are they having bad rounds due to nervousness?

Phyxius

Oh my, I would gladly let her borrow a hair net!!

Haha, there's another blonde rider with a red jacket that I saw in the first round with hair hanging everywhere. Eek.

Tough rounds this morning so far, huh?

ditto for Bermuda girl - geez, her ponytail is all bunched up in the back of her helmet.

Tap2Tango
Aug. 17, 2008, 08:42 AM
It looks like a lot of the riders aren't getting straight to the water. By angleing it, they make it wider and harder to get across.

Wow that was a nasty fall!! :(

Guin
Aug. 17, 2008, 08:42 AM
oh man, rider down

Madeline
Aug. 17, 2008, 08:43 AM
Did anyone notice the shadow coming up on that wall fence that the Bermudan stopped at? Just as she approached here comes another horse, bigger and bigger.

This is too exciting ( and not in a good way) for this hour of the AM>

GreystoneKC

Oh god, the rider from Azerbajan (sp) came off, he took a long time to get up. Looks like he is up, though.

I am looking to the Japanese rider to put in a good round...I believe he went clean on Friday.

Phyxius
Aug. 17, 2008, 08:45 AM
Just got up, grimacing, helped walking off. They had a wall of people blocking him from spectators. I'm thinking concussion at least he looks 'drunk' and kind of out of it. Replay showed a MAJOR head hit on the ground. Hope he's okay.

Guin
Aug. 17, 2008, 08:45 AM
I'm watching the live feed, no commercials, but they did cut away from the rider until he got up

Leave the video/enhanced open, and your current COTH window open.

No, I'm using Silverlight which is in it's own window and COTH is in a seperate window. From wiki... not the best source, but the best I can do this AM

"Hong Kong was a dependent territory of the United Kingdom from 1842 until the transfer of its sovereignty to the People's Republic of China in 1997. The Sino-British Joint Declaration and the Basic Law of Hong Kong stipulate that Hong Kong operate with a high degree of autonomy until 2047, fifty years after the transfer. Under the "one country, two systems" policy, the Chinese government is responsible for the territory's defence and foreign affairs, while Hong Kong maintains its own legal system, police force, monetary system, customs policy, immigration policy, and delegates to some international organisations and events."

Not a stupid question...

They are doing both...

Riders who are not in a land-team went first (that was the first group of 15 or so that went). Qualifying for the individual is happening concurrently. Team medals will be determined tomorrow. The top group after tomorrow goes on to compete later on this week for individual medals.

Has any one else noticed that the course has to be really ridden forward. Very few riders have been able to do it. Especially at the triple a lot of people are taking a tug right before it an not having enough engine to get through cleanly.

Also, it seems that very few riders are getting straight to the water. The ones who end up forward and straight get over clear.
