Can anyone give me suggestions for eventing trainers within the Houston area? West houston would be best, but at this point I'm desperate enough to trailer a ways for good instruction. I've lived in the area for 7 years and have been in and out of pretty much every barn here [h/j, eventing, and dressage alike]. Right now I love the barn I'm boarding at, and am working with a hunter trainer that I like a lot and she is getting me and Ciera started on everything [Ciera is 4 years old and has only been jumping for about 3 months]. She's great for us as far as jumping in an arena goes, and will be great for helping us get out to h/j shows. I have a few trainers left to try as far as strictly dressage goes, one whom I have heard very good things about. But as far as XC and and shows go for eventing I'm alone as of now. I feel confident in my ability to get us safely though novice seeing as I have schooled and shown through that with previous horses and trainers....but I'd rather not take the chance of moving up by myself.

Any suggestions? They don't have to be big name, I'm not picky...so long as they teach well and know what they're talking about.

As far as dressage... if I lived west of houston I would go to Pam Grace... as far as eventing trainers in houston.. who have you tried and we will see who's left.

^ Glad to hear you suggest Pam Grace, she was my top pick for a dressage trainer.

As far as eventing trainers I've trained at Blue Ribbon Meadows and Rainbow Hill Farms. The rest of my barns have either been Dressage or hunter/jumper. I know of one other smaller eventing trainer in the area, but I've only ever seen her at schooling shows which wouldn't do me much good.

ETA: Would just like to add that I have absolutely nothing against the barns I listed so as not to come across wrong, my reasons for leaving were nothing against anyone or thing there :]

I would recommend Kristy Limon. I travel to her from Katy once a week. She is in the Tomball/Magnolia area.
I've ridden with her for a few years now, and really like her style.
PM me if you have any questions!

What about Ruth Sawin at Pine Hill... she is certified up to a certain level (don't know which level off hand)
Kristy is a good choice also for XC training and I think Lurena Bell Stanley (Dressage) is in the Magnolia area. I haven't taken any lessons from her but I know alot who have and travel 100+ miles to take them with her..

There's also Susan Shiba (dressage) at New Caanan Ranch in Fulshear. Lurena is also great.

There is also Martha Diaz at Canaan Ranch for dressage and just up the road (same street James Lane) is Lucy Chalcroft. She's my Jumper/cross country trainer. Kirsty Lemmon is also very good, my friend Shella rides with her and enjoys her teaching style.

Lucy Chalcroft would be my recommendation as well. An eventer that boards at our barn (dressage) in west Houston trailers to her for jumping lessons and is a beautiful rider.

Is Paul Kauthen (sp??? sounds like cotton) still in the Houston area?

Paul is in Conroe at Tex-Over so yes he's fairly close (North).
