View Full Version : Richland Park--who's going?

So who is going to Richland this year, what division, etc?

I haven't ridden there since 2005--that was one of the best XC trips I've ever had and I'll never forget it.

This will be my first time riding the Novice course, which looks pretty stiff but I think Bonnie's ready--she rocked around Hunters Run this weekend and I'm eager to challenge her a little bit more.

Did they run all the dressage on Friday last year? Even Novice?

...as a jump judge jockey, but darn it, I'll be there!

Good luck, Delta! I'll be rooting for you!

I'll be there in the OI this year! I'm so pumped. I loved it last year!!!

I'm going, Novice (but don't tell my horse...he's gotten hurt right before Richland the past 2 years!)

DW, I don't know about last year, but I'm pretty sure all the dressage is on Friday.

I'll be there...volunteering, not competing. My mare got hurt a year ago, and is almost back to 100%. But she's not quite ready for Richland.

Look for me as the recycling queen. I'll be managing the new Richland Park HT recycling program, so all those water bottles won't have to go into the trash cans! Look for the recycling containers next to almost all the trash cans on site :D and please recycle!

That's great! I've often thought shows should have "cleanest barn/tent" contests or something and make big incentives for recycling. Glad Richland is on the cutting edge. :)

I just realized now that I didn't ask for next Friday off, holy cow! So now I'm scrambling . . .

I'm going in the JYOP. I've never been before but it sounds like an amazing event- I'm so excited!! My mom's family is from MI too so that's doubly cool because hopefully we will get to see a bit of them while we're there:).

I'll be there. Just watching though - I'm a Hunter Princess. :) What's everyone's horses' names so I can know who to look for.

They updated the times a bit...like suggested above, double check! You still get to sleep in, Lynn, but you'll have to up by noon at the latest!!:lol:

Elliesmom, what jump are you assigned to on Sunday? I'm jj'ing too! In fact, I'm here already, but don't know how the scores came out from yesterday and today. Lemme check and get back to ya'll.

Darren is leading the A with a 17.5 on Windfall, he's tied for second with a 22 aboard Gus.

Michelle Mueller is tied for 2nd with Darren. The scores are crazy for the Advanced. Nobody in the 40's or higher.

The courses look fantastic and I am TOTALLY pumped to run xc tomorrow!!!!! Too bad it rained and made the warm up a little difficult, but I can't get over how amazing and beautiful the courses look. So stoked!

Woohoo! My trainer had a double-clean XC trip, just rocked around perfectly, and they're in FIRST in the CIC** going into stadium! :D

Bonnie was a super grown up horse today, calmly cantered around stadium with tents and flags and hustle and bustle like an old pro, and did exactly everything I told her to do . . . including drop her hind legs over #4. Two rails, and we are probably firmly in last place, but I am having the BEST time with her this summer--it's like, who stole my baby horse and replaced her with this cool, unflappable Novice packer? :D :D :D

Oh, and Novice XC looks EASY (thank you, thank you, thank you Gwen for making the jumps look small forevermore) and Training . . . almost do-able!

We'll see how I feel about THAT after tomorrow. ;) :p

What a beautiful day. The xc went off without a hitch for the day and the volunteers and organizers were fantastic. The rain tried to ruin our party though!

Thanks again to everyone for holding a truly fantastic event. Probably my favourite event.

Glad to hear you like it here in Michigan. Today's weather was FANTASTIC - 70s, light breeze, blue sky, beautiful horses, nice people.

We jj's watched some AMAZING rides, including Darren going very carefully and slowly on 4 horses (Windfall, his fifth ride, was being a handfull!), right down to the cute little appy pony jumping around like a jumping bean this afternoon in the novice division, much to the delight of the crowd.

Jazzy, there were so many Canadians there! I was so happy that Richland has become a destination event for our neighbors to the north! Come back next year!

Deltawave: I gave you a shout out after fence 18. Looks like you had a nice ride! Woo Hoo!

Thanks for the cheer! I did hear something as we went past but I was trying to get home under time after our golf cart encounter so we were a-hustlin'. And we finished about 10 seconds under, so 420 mpm is totally do-able.

Golf cart incident: fence 3 (a simple palisade) dropped you about 4 strides short of a road/pedestrian crossing. You had to turn left and go up the little hill to #4. Bonnie was a little wiggly, a little looky (we didn't veg out in the start box for a minute, going in and out, like I normally do, something to remember!!) and as we cantered down to the palisade there was a big shuttle/golf cart full of spectators parked SMACK in the road, just past that jump. All Bonnie could see was herself landing and running into the golf cart, so she put her head up and said "Ma, I CAN'T!" and that was 20 points, her first XC stop in a year and a half. :p Circled around, and by now the flippin' golf cart had moseyed on so she popped right over and on we went, not without me yelling THANK YOU GOLF CART!! as we passed. :D :p

The rest of the trip was SUPER, Bonnie found her gallop AND other than me needing to take one big tug before the 5/6 combination she was totally polite and ride-able and wasn't impressed by ANYTHING. Even with the circle at #3 we finished under time and she was barely sweating.

Yay! Thumbs up for Training Level!

And Erika won the CIC**! :) :) :)

Oh for goodness sakes! What a mess! You must have been pissed! That road crossing looked a little dicey to begin with...then add a golf cart full of folks, and you've got full on chaos! Yeah Training! Yeah Erika!

I believe they are from Ontario. The rider is a student of Lindsay Mahon. They were stabled across from me and I was drooling over the pony all weekend!

Do you know how they finished? I watched them as they started-fantastic pony. Someone said they pony was only 5 years old and the rider 8???? If the rider was only 8-she is really something.

How did you finish? It was a beautiful weekend to compete and to watch!

Us guys in the announcer's box loved the name "The Great & Mighty Hercules". It was a cute spotted pony. I believe they won their division, not sure if that is who you are referring to but the name caught our attention!

Yes, thanks-I do believe Hercules was in the name as they were announced out of the start box. And they were in second going into XC and when I justed looked up the results, that would be consistent and they did win their division. The pony was VERY cute.

I bet he's a handful! He's got 'tude to spare. My partner jump judge got a pic of him over the trakehner and all 4 legs are tucked up tight, tail high, ears up, eyes focused on the horizon. SOOOO CUTE! Does anyone know how big he is and his breeding? He's been the talk of our barn since we got home and everyone would love to know a little more about him.

In the past Xpressfoto used to take pics there. Don't know if they were there this year as I didn't get to go. This is my destination event every summer. I started getting in shape this spring just to compete at Richland and had my schedule all planned and was well on my way with schools and prep events until I had to withdraw due to horsey health issues. I'm still bummed about it.

Herc is a Mustang/Welsh Pony cross and is 13.1 hands.

He is 6 and the rider is 11. They are a great match because Becky can sit to his powerful jump!

Thank you Richland!!!

This was my first time and I was impressed from start to finish! The grounds are lovely, the courses fabulous, and everyone seemed to be having as good a time as I was:).

Extra thanks too to the Wilmarths for leaving the tents up to accommodate me and Missy Miller in our extended layovers (we're both still at the park!)... me on purpose because of some funky scheduling, Missy because her truck broke down and stranded her! Thanks!!!

Did you get to go to the XC safe riding clinic Monday? I'm curious as to how it was. I went back and forth about whether to stay or not.

It was my first time to Richland also and was very impressed by the XC courses. I thought they were very educational, fun courses to ride. They were tough, but fair. I had a blast riding all 3 of my horses (I, P, and T). It helped that the horses were all good, but I think the courses were great too!!! I will definitely be back next year with a few more students!!!

I also went back and forth but we had to get a lot of travel stuff ironed out on Monday so I ended up not. The other girl who is here still rode in the clinic on one of Darren's young horses and said that it went pretty well but it ended up being more of a xc schooling clinic for the riders rather than a demonstration for the spectators (as in Darren used it as an opportunity to get this young horse out schooling and school a few of his students who had had problems over the weekend that were also in the demo group). That was just her take on it, though; I'd be curious to hear what people who went as spectators thought of it.

I heard that DC pushed hard to get his own students to be the "demo riders". FWIW.

I scribed with the dressage judge who had "the Great & Mighty Hercules" in her ring. We had been talking about silly horse names and looked to see this name was next.... and then here comes this itty bitty pony. It was too much!

He did a darling dressage test, with a wicked gleam in his eye the whole time. Rider did a great job on him. I jj'ed on Sunday and cheered them past my jump. Was DELIGHTED to see that they won the division. Nice to see he has a fan club here.
