I was hoping against hope tonight that the lack of coverage of our riders last night was not going to be the case tonight on tv. Not. :( I just can't believe the little amount we got to see ANY of them go, while they focused on other riders.
I'm thrilled with having live online coverage, I was just so surprised at this!

I just watched the Cross Country on Oxygen and thought it was pretty good. Granted you did not get to see all of KArens ride, or Ginas, well, on second thought yøu are right!! Hmmmm They showed alot of the new Zealanders and germany and Britain. Hmmm wonder why. So sad about beckys ride.
Would have liked to see more of Phillip. I guess they did not focus on them. WE really did not look very strong, could that be it??

They showed the riders in numerical order, a good bit of each ride. I'm not sure the American riders got shafted at all in terms of coverage, it's just that there are SO MANY other countries. Four riders among sixty-plus means not very many glimpses at the home team, you know? :)
Can't comment on the TV coverage--I hate TV. :D I'm tickled to bits with the nbcolympics.com coverage, though--what a huge treat!

I've been hugely pleased with the online coverage, and just watched the second half of Oxygen's and was impressed with that as well. *So* many good riders and horses, and I really like the fact that NBC is giving plenty of attention to the rest of the world too (in all the sports, not just equestrian).

My online coverage was wacky, I even downloaded what was supposed to be superior viewing but I dont think it worked- those darn high tech computers at work ! So I dashed home to catch Oxygen Channel and first they get huge kudos for not even allowing long commercial interruptions so I could fix dinner:lol: It seemed as though they continued in numerical order but did jump around a bit you would see one rider over a couple of jumps and that would be it for them. They did show quite a bit of Gina Miles and Lucinda Fredericks - I missed the first 1/2 thanks to rush hour traffic.
The commentators did mention a few times that they were getting the feed to their booth in NYC so often they had no idea who the rider was initially as the cameras from Xcountry would just feed the tape to them. While they never show enough as far as I'm concerned, I applaud both NBC for the online coverage and Oxygen for their coverage. Wonder how they will do for Showjumping - I think regular NBC takes over for showjumping (not the 3 day showjumping)
Oh - and I very nearly cried tears of joy for Mary King - seeing barely being able to contain herself (or just trying to get the rain out of her eyes) - well got me VERKLEMPED

I was able to watch the last 1/2 hour of the xc on oxygen also and I really liked the coverage. Sometimes I swear, on some of these world sporting events, if you went by the tv coverage, you'd think only America was competing. I like that they showed the other countries.

Okay, I've had Oxygen on since 3, and it never even covered the olympics for me...? At all? I'm so confused/mad! It worked for my parents (on eastern time) but I'm on m/t and its been stupid Tori & Dean all day! What gives? It's now 6:30 here and still no eventing...

I know, that's true. I was just straining last night to hear any announcer saying how Becky was doing, while it seemed we got almost all of Megan Jones' ride at the same time. Lots of Mary King, hardly any of Phillip. But loved Mary's ride too.... I just want to see them ALL!
And Gina too, even Melanie (commentator tonight on tv) said "I know Gina Miles is out on the course somewhere."
I loved the online coverage, even so. Loved having basically no commentators, just hearing everyone else, made you feel like you were there.

There was a DISTINCT LACK of coverage of the US riders, with the exception of Gina. I watched the entire live feed and stayed up hours past my bedtime waiting to watch Philip ride. Instead, I watched several MINUTES of some italian guy galloping the track from the air. I was PISSED. Philip is of interest to everyone who follows eventing in every country. They also showed only 3-4 fences for Karen and just a couple for Becky. I have no idea if it was on purpose, but it was really frustrating.
I'm very grateful for the coverage, period, but I wish they would have have given at least equal time to our riders. NBC is American after all!

I watched it via a Danish public TV site. They did not show much of the American riders.

Is it perhaps because we are not considered to be in medal contention? Think about it guys, and go back and watch your videos of previous games and WEGs. They show 70% the major players and a bit of the others. It just played out this year that we are not in that position. So it goes. Would have been nice to see more of Phillip and Gina since they did have nice rides... but other teams are having their time in the sun.

I also watched via the Danish site, was nice to have no commercials and no commentary, just footage!
The Danish site always went for replays of problems so you did see where your US riders came to grief
To be fair to the live footage aired there are 3 riders on course at one time so surely you will not get an equal amount shown of each rider.
It was just lucky that Megan Jones was where she was in each section of the course to get quite a bit of coverage, some of the other Aussies didn't get so much (Shane Rose, Sonja Johnson). I missed both Clayton and Lucinda's rides live unfortunately.
Of the US rides I saw quite a bit of Beckys, Karen and Phillip, also got the replay's of Karen and Beckys whoopsy's.
I am quite lucky to be in Western Australia with a timezone identical to Hong Kong so no having to sit around at odd hours of the day :D
Show jumping is another leveler in our sport so we will see what happens tonight.
If you do want to use the Danish site you can get instructions for it from Megan Jone's website:
http://www.kirbypark.com/
go to the section on emma's olympic commentary and you will find the link and instructions.

I'm with seeuatx...it's odd that they aren't showing US riders in the US, but most of them aren't in contention.
They are showing an amazing amount of equestrian on TV tonight, though. I don't think I've ever seen so much eventing (Americans or no Americans) on TV....yay NBC/Oxygen!

but Hobby Du MEE was there showing with a really big wiggly Italian rider!!!
didn't you guys see?
Galan was WD which made me cry but I cried with joy when I saw Hobby Du MEE out on course. I jumped up off the sofa with my arm spread eagle and danced around the living room shouting, yeah!! It's the little french horse!
The top of the french team trained him. Love that horse. He's just so damn happy.
I have a video of him as an 8 year old galloping around the European Eventing Champs with pure joy in his eyes.

Boy, I was almost embarrassed how much talking I was doing to the TV, particularly with Becky's and Karen's rides. But, you know, I'm reminded of why I was first attracted to eventing. We have our team/country, personal pride, but we really do want each and every pair to do their very best.
