Did anybody else notice a whole bunch of jumps that did not appear to be alternate jumps on the Olympic course? It seems like there were several in the water complex (although we got to see very little of the water complex - they always seemed to cut away just as a rider was getting ready to jump in - what's up with that?) that couldn't possibly have been an alternate route. Also, there were some random looking jumps you could see as the riders galloped by. Surely they haven't turned those two golf courses into a cross country wonderland? Could they be using them for the Asian Games or something like that. Just wondering.

They are likely left over from the test event last year which was a different standard to the olympic requirements. You will also notice that they were away from the main golf course. They XC jumps will be dismantled and the grounds will go back to being a golf course.

That's got to be a thrill...galloping and jumping around on a golf course. That's something I've always wanted to do! :D

The olympic course did indeed run over the golf course...obviously not the putting greens...but it looks as though the remaining test event jumps were further off the course.

You know, galloping across a golf course has always been a fantasy of mine. Wonder how many olympic riders share it?

I might not be an Olympic rider, but I fantasize about it.
My joke to those who board at my barn is that I'm dying to sneak out, under the cover of darkness, and gallop the golf courses of the hotetotee (sp?!) community near my barn.

In my Pony Club years (when rocks were young) I had friends whose barn was a mile or so away from the equestrian park where we did all our Pony Club stuff. There was a public golf course between the two places. On occasion they would kick their ponies in to a good canter and ride across the course screaming, Whoa! Stop Ginger stop! Whoa! Handily stopping when they got to the back gate of the show grounds.

FYI, XC at the 82 Olympics in Los Angeles was also on a golf course.

Way back in the 60s, we had a pony club rally on Long Island that used at least part of a golf course (maybe Piping Rock? maybe Meadowbrook? I forget) for cross country.

I gallop through a golf course every year.:yes::lol::lol:

The London Hunt and Country Club has a (Canadian) Thanksgiving Day hunt every year. The horses and hounds trot up the driveway, stop at the clubhouse, where the Masters say a few words. Then it's off down the first fairway.

We are pretty much relegated to the cart path, but it is really cool. All of the golfers stop and watch as we gallop by.

So if you have fantasies of galloping through a gold course, join us Oct 13, 2008, 1:00pm, London, Ontario. :D

Many of the items you are asking about are covering the sprinkler heads on the golf course. Got this info from the course builders.

Thank you! I wondered what those things were. That makes total sense.

Sprinkler heads? Go figure. Wonderful insight - thank you.

it said the course had been shortened 1km due to weather and those fences may have been on the loop that was taken out - dunno

I noticed the, ummm, "busy" water complex as well. There seemed to be some sort of pier sticking out into the water, and some kind of coop in another part of the pond, neither one of which was on the course. It was not very appealing to look at, was it?? The other jumps were so pretty, especially the dragon.

I wonder what they were thinking with the cluttered wading pool look at the water complex?

Glad to have the explanation about the oddly placed rocks, mushrooms and other various and sundry items placed in the galloping lanes of the course. Makes perfect sense!
