Can't seem to find times posted yet -- anyone else? Weather looks to be super!

As usual - I'll be there volunteering! Hoping to compete in the Fall series though. :D

I'll be there "schooling" The Princess (who seems to have decided, of late, that the dressage ring--in competition--is the *ideal* place to "give me the middle finger", spook, hop up and down in the canter, anticipate, and otherwise indulge in gratuitous naughtiness--resulting in submission scores that are, well, "rather craptastic" :p)

So I am riding HC...(I'll be the last ride of the day, and Carolyn--bless her!--said she would give the judge a heads-up, and that I should just "do what I need to do" :D)

Afterwards, I will be schooling x-country, since I had paid to school after the event in June, but opted not to stick around because T-storms were on the way. (So I am owed one...;))

It looks like the weather will be fabulous, though dry :sigh:

And yeah, no ride times yet, as of noon...

I believe asterix is taking her youngun, and there are some others from the board who are going BN (who I won't get to see, unfortunately...)

I will be there with one of the CANTER MA horses and another who has been in training for 2 months. They are doing elementary which may be a bit to easy but I would rather it be a good first experience since we are going to school the x-country afterwards anyway. Neither of them have seen a dressage ring so it should be interesting:lol:

Dixie- big plain bay
Mick- dark bay with white strip and snip
Red/yellow colors.

Say hi if you see me!

Yay, late morning. My trainer will be riding her OTTB in BN and my boy (bay with The Tail) in N. Good luck, everyone!

I'll be there with my gelding. It's our first outing in more than a year, since his splint bone fracture and surgery, so we're both thrilled to be out! I'll be the one grinning from ear to ear even if he's a total PITA  He'll be the one who looks like he's having a total blast around XC!

He's a bay and we'll be in hunter green, riding in the N division: Heidi & Inquisitive. Say hi!

ETA: dressage at 1:28

Since times are for dressage only, am I correct that there is just a change of tack and then rider heads on over to the jump phase? We did this event last year but my trainer and I have different recollections of the way it works...

I wanted to take my mare, but the husband was not too cool with my being gone for a 5th weekend in a row, so I am staying home for some family time. I hope to bring her to the next one, though.

XC is done during a "window" of time for each division that should be posted.

I wish we could go and watch (not quite ready to enter yet, but we're hoping to maybe do the fall series with my Loki). Alas, we have plans with friends that do not involve horses.

I have been following Jlee's blog about Dixie and I so wish we were ready for another horse. He seems to be exactly what we will be looking for in another few months. But hubby says no new pony until we get the new paddock fenced in. Sigh. Can't wait to hear how he (and everyone else and their horses, too) does, I feel like I almost know him from the blog, hehe. Good luck and have fun to everyone that is going!

I'll be there with my greenie, his first outing "amongst event people". Our dressage time is 10:36 so we'll be leaving at 6am to be able to walk the course before. He's a big black/bay with legs. We don't really have official colors yet, I haven't decided what I want. Maybe a splash of red? Who knows, but for now, I have a black vest and he will have a black saddle pad probably.

My boarder is riding in the same division as me (BN A) and she rides at 10:18. She has a grey appendix. She'll probably be wearing baby blue. My guy is Oh So Extreme and hers is Bid All the Chips.

Hey guys, it looks like I'm probably going to be the starter so please take a quick second to introduce yourself to me! I know that might be hard to do when your nervous, but I'll make your start as pleasant as possible. For those that don't know it's very laid back, and you get your choice of having a countdown to feel like a recognized horse trial or you can just move on through the start box when I say go.

Good to luck to everybody, it should be a fun day!

Cool, I will not only be able to identify you, but will also be able to call you by your COTH name; and I feel certain that you will be *more* than happy to see me exit the start box, since I will likely be the last one of the day to go x-country ;)

Depending on a couple of things I'm hoping to take Woody (http://lookndownthebarrel.wordpress.com/) on his first educational field trip. I'll be with Fairweather cheering on Jlee and May.

We'll be easy to spot, He'll be the freakishly cute little chestnut being led around who will more than likely have this (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3171/2585304052_c93c2f0250.jpg) look on his face. And I'll be doing lots of this (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3005/2584472627_32d5749a38.jpg).

Good to hear that other folks will be schooling the x-country afterward :)

My horse is a pretty (and knows it!) chestnut mare with a big star, who will be wearing white protective boots...I will be accompanied by a "large, surly Italian man" (Mr. Dr. D) who is 6'4", has a mustache and graying hair, and who will be videotaping (reluctantly), and making sarcastic cracks :p Little D may also be along (blonde 14 year old girl looking less-than-thrilled to be there ;)) That's my crew :sigh:

I'll be trying to keep any eye out for other COTHers schooling--if you were to provide descriptions, it would make identification easier ;)

Dr.D it sounds like you will be late in the day but you can't miss my red and yellow vest and I more than likely will have a red/yellow saddle pad. I have to make my boys feel the part you know!

I sure hope Lisamarie does come along with the gorgeous Woody because I have been dying to meet him in person.

I will be getting up nice and early..not looking forward to that but it shall be fun.

Pprincess- red is a must on a gorgeous black horse and I hear your boy is something special. I am eager to see him.

I have a bay Cleveland Bay/Morgan gelding - he is pretty unmistakeable in his looks (met Catalina at Loch Moy for the first time and she picked him out immediately) - truly an overgrown pony. Goes by the name of Reg, which can quickly disintegrate into unpolite not repeatable names.
My colors are maroon and black, we are going N.

My daughter will be there on Hot Redhead. Should be interesting - had some setbacks since going in June (living up to her name)! They'll be doing elementary (thank goodness!) since it's the same dressage test as they will see at DRPC HT in a few weeks. 8:54 start time! Yippee!

If anyone is there that early I'll be the pregnant one begging for a golf cart lift to the dressage ring!

A BIT of rain?? Was that the CRAZY thunderstorm I drove through (in a loaded horse trailer :eek:) at around 5:30 on I-70 last night? The only upside to creeping along at 25 mph wondering just how windy it would have to get to tip your horse over is hoping the ground is softening up at Loch Moy (yes, we eventers are nuts).

So...I've never done one of these, but the poor munchkin has been rained out of 2/3 of his HTs this season (bringing us to a grand completion of 1)...

I can wear a white show shirt and britches/boots for dressage, right, and then gear up for jumping like XC?

BN does test B?

You get there early and walk your course (how early -- how "short" is short?)?

They had an option for an extra "SJ" round on the entry form -- what is this?

Thanks!!
Tazzie, looking forward to seeing you :D

The munchkin, aka the husband horse, thinks he is on the fast track to Rolex. Recently, my coaches have been making noises about how far he can go. Right now, I just want him to go from the start to the finish!!!!!

RedlineGuy was gonna have one of his buddies who lives nearby check in person to see if she was still alive and kicking a few weeks back. I have no idea what he discovered. The last anyone seems to have seen of her was back in May when she covered the MDHT. By herself from the look of the tiny gallery. One could conclude that she is no longer in business as the facts currently stand.

asterix- you have some seriously back luck transporting to/from VEI, don't you? That sucks!

When we were there last Oct, it seems a conservative colored polo and boots were fine so you'll be good (I believe mythical got chastised by the judge for her teal and white striped one in dressage!). They didn't have the optional SJ round (or the nice rings for that matter!) so I can't help there.

Yikes, you were caught in that T-Storm while *hauling*?!? It seems like there were just some local cells that went through MD; we in VA got nothing...:sigh:

To answer your questions: A white or neutral colored shirt with boots and breeches is fine (and you can change into x-country garb between phases.)

Check the website as to the test (it will be listed on the entry form. :))

The "Short Course" consists of anywhere from 8-12 x-country fences, depending on the level you're riding; the entire course is approximately 1/2 to 1/3 the length of a "standard" x-country course (for each level.) They include 3 or 4 stadium jumps, usually at the beginning and end of the course (they are set out in the field.)

You should have ample time to walk the course between your dressage and x-country, though it will help if you have someone to take the horse immediately after dressage; that way you can hop off and head right out to the field to walk it. (You can go whenever you're ready, but they have "windows of time" for each division to jump, since they have to re-set the stadium fences between divisions.)

No need to get there the night before; the course is short enough to walk (and memorize) within the alloted time (if moi, a middle-aged poster child for "a memory like a sieve"--who always has to go over courses *multiple* times to remember them--can walk around the Short courses only once and have no problem remembering where to go, surely you will find it easy enough! :D)

It's untimed.

If you want to do a schooling stadium round, they have a stadium course set up (in the same ring where they did the stadium at the HTs), and you can "mosey on over" after you have done your x-country and jump around the course. When I did it in June, the volunteer helping out at that ring raised the fences a bit for me, and allowed me to wander around on horseback in the ring (while he was doing it), and figure out what the course was (though you can walk it first if you like :)) It's very casual, and they are very accomodating.

From what I've seen of "the baby", I would agree--LOTS of very cool potential there!! :D

You'lle have a blast tomorrow; it's all very low-key, and Carolyn couldn't possibly be any nicer or more helpful

Now I'll have to write down a "cheat sheet" with people's horse's descriptions!

Thanks, dr d, that's perfect! I will be there alone so I may try and walk ahead of dressage.

I am so excited to do the extra sj round -- that's what he needs the most (although now I am only riding one horse it will not kill us to gallop around a xc course).

This sounds like fun and HOW lucky are we with the weather!!!

Yeah, I have pretty much driven a horse trailer in the worst weather (not counting snow/ice -- I won't do that unless a horse's life is truly at risk, so far, no need) imaginable...except 2 months ago, when I went down to VEI to get Piko, and we had those tornados...technically I didn't actually drive IN the tornados (although bushwhacking dirt roads to get around fallen trees was so not fun in a rig, and hearing the radio telling me "this is a life threatening situation. Abandon your vehicle" {as if! with my boy in the back???} was kind of stressful)....but I had a friend driving home from VA that day who DID drive in the worst of it, with her horse...She was on a small lane somewhere she didn't know (detoured due to road closures) and was terrified that trees would hit her trailer. She ended up going down a gravel road/driveway in an open field just to get away from the trees...ended up at someone's house, who was very nice to her.
But THAT was worse than anything I've driven in...yet...

Speaking of weather and storms, I've driven through a hailstorm once on the way home from a lesson. Not fun! I've also been through those bad summertime squals with my guy. I just pulled over at a gas station and closed the back windows last time it happened. He seemed to be fine.

Well, how did everyone do? My boy had a very educational day. His dressage warm up was alright, he wanted to do what I asked, but there was just so much to look at! A guy on a gator pulling a loud empty metal cart kept speeding by, so that didn't help much, but we made it through our test. He got a 33.5, which seems to be his average right now. Our canter needs work, but he was paying attention to me in the ring which is all I can ask for right now. He just bottles everything up inside!

My boarder got a 21 on her test, which was amazing.

Cross country was great until fence 3 which was a stadium fence. We crested the hill and he wondered why the heck a bright fence was out in the middle of the course, so he had a little stop. Nothing serious, we represented and made it over. He hesitated a little into the water, but was fine once he got in. I wasn't sure whether I could get him into canter in the water, so he stepped out onto dry land and picked up canter, but we were both a little unwound, so he had a runout to the lattice out of water. Again, nothing serious, just an honest mistake. It also rode on more of an angle than I had thought, so we were just asking for a runout!

We decided to do a couple stadium rounds and got a good school in. He stopped at the red/white/blue plank, but made it over fine the next time.

I really enjoyed the event, it was very low key, just what he needs right now. I hope they change it up for the next one, the course was alot of the same that I schooled a couple of weeks ago. I will definitely be back.

PP's horse is just gorgeous. I remember seeing pictures of him when the first came off the track and I thought he was gorgeous then.

My first time to Loch Moy since all the rings have been updated and I thought it was lovely. I was riding Dixie Rumble, a CANTER horse, and another 4yr doing his first show.

Dixie was a bit in shock by everything because it was his first show but the horse is simply amazing in that no matter how scared he is there is never any bad behavior. He was unsure of the judges so sorta stopped and stared coming down the centerline. The white rails were really really scary so we had a interesting dressage test. Hey we got both leads and it was okay for a first test.

Poor boy was nervous as can be heading up to x-country and was shaking but he seemed to know why we were there and never even looked at the jumps. He rocked that elementary course and left the course with tons of confidence.

My other horse has only had 2 months of off the track training and he too was awesome. We had one stop at fence 3 where you come around the corner and then head down a hill and the fence was bright and a bit scary. He tried to refuse the last fence but I said nope you are going over and we went over but took the standard down with us as my foot hit it. He could have cared less.

Lovely day!

I was amazed at all the fussiness at fence 3!!!!! Mine included.

My *only* complaint of the day--and one I think i'll actually email about asking if they wouldn't do that again. It was a disaster in the making--that cart was terrifying!

That said--I love that place--it's close, the footing is fantastic now, and it's low key and fun. My pony was fantastic and I'm really happy with how she went.

Piaffe--your horse is pretty spectacular, and when Jlee pointed me out I was going to try to get pics of you because I know how it is to always be the one behind the camera--but I missed your go's :(

Glad to hear everyone had a good time. I've never been to their short course and loved how low-key it was. Agree about the gator... but don't think it made a difference for mine; he seemed to ignore me regardless! He was pretty good in dressage warmup (his usual self - which we're working on) and then totally lost it in the ring. His attention was everywhere but me and I realized it would have been uglier to try and fight it. I just tried to get him through it. After we left the ring we went back to the warmup for a minute to have a reminder that attention needs to be on mommy! But, it's been over a year since his last show so I can't complain too much! The judge was way easy on us and gave us a 37.5

XC he was a total blast, just like I figured. It was a really positive experience for him. He didn't look at anything and just flew right through. I was really pleased to end on a good note

Think it's time to find some dressage schooling shows :p

Dr. Doolittle
Aug. 11, 2008, 10:24 AM
So, I was able to "get 'er done" in the dressage ring (the judge was understanding, and I reminded her what my intentions were before I went in the ring); my mare displayed her usual gratuitously innatentive behavior, which consists of locking her back, and "spooking at the judge and suddenly *pretending* to notice the dressage letters" BS , but THIS time, she was corrected for it! :D During the test, I used my voice, did a number of halts, head-down time-outs, a few rein-backs, a few small circles in the corners, and some "big thumps" with the inside leg. By the end of the test, she was MUCH softer and more rideable and obedient--Yay! (Let's just hope this carries over to Difficult Run...)

I thanked the judge afterwards, and when I checked the scoreboard (even though I was riding HC), I was *amazed* to discover that she had "let me off" with a 41.50! (Technically, I should have received a score closer to 75, considering that so many movements deserved ones or twos :p)

Afterward, we cruised around the Short course, with the exception of the Shark's Teeth--airy black Chevrons stuck in the middle of the field--though the girl is normally bold and blase about all x-country jumps she comes across at this point, the sight of this jump caused her to go , and she had a "Stop 'n Stare moment", on the approach, about 8 strides away. Taps and kicks had no effect, so I gave her a few good whacks with the bat, re-presented, and she went right over with no problem.

After finishing the course, I got to meet regeventer in the warmup area (where my horse was being a melodramatic twit around the "dreaded other horses"), and also saw her while we were schooling the course afterward. Her horse (Reg) is *adorable* (and really does look like a huge pony; Tazzie and I were discussing him right before I went into the start box), and he has a sweet face and a "charming demeanor"; he looked like a blast to ride, and was totally chill about the whole x-country thing ;)

I wish I could say the same for Princess Drama Queen, who was being silly and spooking at the milk cans near the little red and black "barn" jumps (which of course she has jumped before without a peek :sigh:), but I eventually got her settled down enough to jump some of the Prelim stuff (including the corner and the water complex and a couple combos), so I called it a day after that. A productive final schooling before her first Prelim outing, and as always, we *love* Loch Moy, and the gracious Carolyn and Company! :)

regeventer, please do stop by our little party at Frying Pan on Friday night if you get a chance; although I may not recognize you sans sunglasses, helmet, and big bay horse!

As for Sunflower Studios, sheesh! (I too have talked to her and she has been very pleasant; she sought me out at Morven at the end of March, and had her pix from *that* HT up on her website in a timely fashion--but now she seems to have dissapeared off the planet...)

Wow Dr. D and Tazzie - thanks for all the compliments about my horse!

Yeah - he was going great when YOU saw him - he was tired and had seen everything once by then. He threw a TOTAL fit on course with # 3 - the first yellow stadium. I.E. overgrown pony full on. But, we got over it. (Or he got over it - with a little cajoling!)

But he did settle down nicely and we worked on pace a little bit. AND -got over the training trakehner - YEEAAHHHH!

Dr. D - yes, your mare was throwing some hissy fits - but my goodness she is a beautiful mover and jumper (we watched you warming up). I must say, you handle her "moments" very well!

Cheers

Does anyone have photos of the elementary course? This looks like a perfect place to get my wuss of a OTTB back into the game after stiffle surgery. I'm looking for stuff that he could trot over if/when he has his usual xc melt down.
For those of you who went already, any comments about xc would be welcome!
thanks

black dog, I send you some pics once we get it all together.

X-country description:
Fence 1- 2ft maybe a smidge bigger log decorated with fake green branches all over the front of it.

Fence 2- just a plain log

Fence 3- canter across the field and turn right and go down the hill and over a bright yellow stadium jump which was decorated with yellow flower.

Fence 4- canter through markers

Fence 5- just go up and down a hill

Fence 6- another log

You could go through the water as an option

Fence 7- log with flower pots under it

Fence 8- another yellow stadium jump with yellow flowers under it.

Mine were more scared of the evil yellow stadium jumps:lol:

The stadium course had a wide variety of fences- panels, boxes, flowers and scary stuff and low heights.

Thanks for the reply! That was a perfect description of the xc. Sounds like we could trot over anything( assuming I can get close to them that is LOL)
Photos would be appreciated whenever you can Jleegriffith :)

Both my boys trotted the whole thing. They are still a bit too star gazing at this point to canter. I think the next time they will be cantering but trotting is a great way to build their confidence. I think I actually jumped from a stand still over number three on one horse. It's a gorgeous event!
