Hey guys

I had a client buy this horse from me over a year ago.. She did not buy him for a whole lot, and decided not to vet check.. I had JUST gotten off the track and had not even seen him move.

We started retraining, he was a SAINT!! Great horse, more of an EQ mover than an A hunter, would be much better at Dressage than hunters... Prefers a dressage frame.

Goes ROUND easily, needs some lateral work..

Needless to say, his off the track injections wore off... He became sore, but not Severly off... I told her that she is not to jump this guy anymore, so he has not done anything hard on him for over 5 months... LONG STORY short--- he got vetted the other day (he was to be sold for a whopping 1k as a light riding horse horse, she was more than happy to inject a hock as I told her that he is iffy about the left lead so I figured engine/hock... )He REALLY did not pass the check... The lady was hoping to do dressage riding a few times a week, and 1 day a week jumping (2'-2'6" MAX) .... Yeah, he cant do it!!

He was sleeping, even at this weird vet... You know the ones, the walls, and floors are sterile.. Scarry.. Metal everywhere.. cars going by.. The vet was doing weird things like putting bags over his nose... YUP he was sleeping, he even DROPPED!! you know what I mean... He is so sweet, truely the sweetest quietest tb.

Vet said: No jumping EVER!! Emphasize that!!! NO JUMPING.. He is too young to destroy!! His left hock is not as bad as his left front ankle... Though they are the "bad legs".. He said that he would be completely suitable for 1-2x a week of light riding (trail, pleasure, even 1st level dressagey type stuff).... If he were to be ridden up to 4 x a week he would absolutely positively require injections. He can't do a TON of cantering, as that is really hard on them. If you love to canter, he needs to be injected.. BUT I will not allow him to go to a unsuitable home!!

OKAY... so he has Arthritis... He goes to the arena, and is a bit stiff.. Works out of it... So if you are an older woman, that is looking for an occasional dressage winner (1 show a month maybe) this guy could be for you.. He has won some blue ribbons, he was sleeping through most of that too (he isn't awake for much :D).. He easily has a 2nd level dressage frame..

He is looking for an older woman (he is not a wide guy) that is wanting to have some calming/fun times with her super sweet, dead quiet horse... That she can really show off, and can spend some money one him (treats and clothes) and SPOIL him ROTTEN!!!

Before his injections had worn off, we had him jumping 2'6" easily.. LOVED IT.. He was a saint!! NEVER refused a single jump! Bold... He did Drill team with our 4H...

Okay.. So he has been doing some walk/trot beg. lessons for me.. He loves to work!!

Needs some TLC and some new diggs!

PM or call me about this big sweet heart OH YEAH--- 16.2H (bay with a small star). Carrys himself uphill.

Anyone looking for a super easy to work with/around pleasure or trail horse?? I am being completely honest, to make sure he finds a GREAT home!! He needs someone to spoil him and love him.

It is very sad that he has limitations on his life, as he would have easily been a very expensive equitation horse!! So, I think he really deserves the world for being so wonderful!

I will not be super harsh while looking through potential homes.. I just want to make sure he will be very well taken care of, and loved on a lot even though he is not going to be a show horse..

Videos are on youtube.com Of course from before his injections really wore off.. Search for sundownfarm, sundown farm, www.sundownfarmva.com and if you see him or a member who uploaded videos with the screen name of Brittann or something like that.. That is where the pics are!! Good luck finding them!! There are quite a few videos of his personality, and calm nature!!

A little more info would help.:) How is he on trails? Can he handle trails alone? Does he require shoes? How easy/hard of a keeper is he (feed, blanketing etc)? Does he get along well with other horses?

Hey Steph-
Update your web site so that it reflects your COTH message regarding the gelding (just a suggestion:)).
The gelding looks lovely - too bad about the situation, but I'm sure some lady looking for a quiet and sane trail horse will contact you.
Best of luck.

LOL.. More info.. LOL

Okay... Not the esiest keeper.. He gets blanketed in the winter and garlic in the summer. He does have front shoes on, and would have to go through the long drawn out, tb without shoes (never been without them) soreness....

He is quiet at everything he does, so trails should not be a problem at all.. We have taken him in open fields, and up the long driveway and such (foals running twards them and all) and he has no issues.. We normally dont do a lot of trail riding, as the girls are at that stage... BUT he is so easy going about everything, and learns so fast, that introducing deer shouldn't be a problem... He is pretty used to birds and such here though!! We have Gineas, chickens and ducks at the barn... He is not afraid of any of them, even them flying and flapping under him as they run away from each other..

I am currently feeding him - 1/2 sc of oats, 1/2 sc of cracked corn, 1/2 sc of alfalfa pellets, 1/2 sc of dry beet pulp. 1cp of max E glow, tsp of garlic and a tb of mollassas (sp)?! that all gets wet down so that the beet pulp can at least absorb some water, and sits for about 5 minutes. (I get his grain ready first, and then feed the rest of the horses). It sounds like a lot, but it is really only 1.5 scoups of feed... We just switched off of commercial feeds, as the prices are so high. I can ration a bit better, as some dont need beet pulp, and alfalfa pellets and such...

He does have parrot mouth, which is why we named him Bugs.. But he gets along really well with it, as long as he gets his grain morning and night.

We can take him out on a trail, that is no problem... He will be fine. We almost took him the other day but we did not end up going on the trail ride.

Rides perfectly fine alone or in groups!!!!! He is basically on the bottom of the totem pole in my geldings field!! He hung out with the QHs in my 60 acre field, instead of the tbs! (they have cliques you know!!) lol

I just wanted to add that I've seen this horse go in person and he's as sweet as SundownFarm says. He'd make a perfect trail horse for someone looking for a lovebug to have around.

I've GOT to stop looking at this guy 20 times a day....sigh. I'm old, small, .....an empty stall, more pasture than my guys can eat, my companion horse gets panicky when his friend goes out to work. And according Mapquest, you're only about 150 miles from me. drat.

I do not need another horse. Really I don't. really. Please, someone take this guy before I cave in.

Cave in... HA... Please cave in!!! I love that you are so close! He really needs some TLC, and a new "MOM".. I do have a few more pics of him, though not the best... They are not too recent, and are from when he was doing dressage lessons every week.. But you can see his frame a bit. Drop me an email-- sundownfarmva@aol.com for them!

Thanks Margret, I hope he finds a great person to spoil him rotten.... Keeping fingers crossed on Princess!!!

I don't need another horse, I really don't..... I don't ride my youngster enough as it is, I have no way to transport him unless I fess up to my trainer, and she'd kill me. And besides, I'm almost 5'3, about 120 lbs....prolly too big for him.

So, he wouldn't have any problems doing w/t stuff, 20 min a day maybe 2 or 3 times a week? :D

Nope, it would help him actually.... He needs that light riding to keep his stiffness down.. Well, if it makes you feel better about his size... He is a narrow boy.. Your legs will probably fit perfectly... LOL He is just tall, not wide at all.... Slender boy!! If you like all legs, he is the one!!!

http://www.freewebs.com/sundownshowteam/onthebit.jpg just what it says there.. He is flexing there, but it was in the very beg. of his dressage training..

And here is a link to a site that his 14 yo girl made for him... Provided, they dont have an eye for pictures at this age--- But you can see him move, if you watch the video, before the jump. And you can see his stride (without injections) in the pictures.

He had a fabulous jump!!!!!!!!!!

Stephanie, have he ever been on any supplements, etc for the arthritis? Just wondering what would make him more comfortable.

Sundown Farm

No, he has not... His owners cant afford to put him on supplements, or inject him.

I'm not trying to be snarky, but why arent you giving him a joint supplement if this horse has arthritis? Injecting a horse, or giving him some kind of "help" to help him feel better is not the end of the world either...

Added... just saw the other poster asked the same question... nevermind...

Wow, did not see that you had written anything... Most people had just been pming me, so I forgot to check here.. LOL

This guy is not my horse, he is not uncomfortable, and I dont keep supplements like those on hand.... He is completely fine being lightly worked.. He has never seemed to be uneasy about working.. He was a bit picky on that left lead, but he was not short when he went on it..

Basically, his diagnosis is that he is athritic, and if he is kept jumping then he would wear out way too fast..

It is better for him to do light consistent work, then for him to do none! But, if he does go to a home where he is not going to be worked light consistently then he needs a lot of pasture to be out in..

Did he find a home yet?

Sundown Farm
Aug. 28, 2008, 02:15 PM
possibly!! We have a lady that lives about 4 miles away from us that just LOVES him... She is coming back on Saturday to ride him, and we will most likely take him over there on Saturday... BUT, if for any reason she cant take him (she doesn't own any other horses) then he is available!

Crazy that she lives in my town!!! :D We will see!!
