Due to some unforseen circumstances I need to place these two horses.

Burlington Arcade
-1987 chestnut TB mare (registered with the JC)
-has been used as a broodmare
-giving away as companion horse only, would make a wonderful babysitter

Jack
-bay TB gelding (older, not really sure of age, has tattoo on lip)
-can be ridden lightly, needs experienced rider
-can not have second cutting hay, very low maintanence

Located in Pennsylvania and references will be required.

I am at wits end, being forced off lease property need to place asap!!!!! My last resort is to send them to auction and I DO NOT want to do that.

in lieu of auction, may I suggest humane euthanasia?

If I thought that would have been the right choice it would have been done, but both of these horses have plenty of good years left in them. Just because they are not going to be riding horses doesn't mean they are of no good!

Bump, running out of time. Would like to see these two go to wonderful homes. Willing to help pay for transport.

I don't want to seem harsh, but you sound almost as if you'd rather gamble on the auction for a retired broodmare/babysitter and a light work, experienced rider only horse? Sounder and younger horses go to slaughter every week (especially this time of year) - again, not to seem harsh, but you control whether or not they die in peace at home with loved ones or a terrifying death at slaughter. Is it a question of money? I call tell you that people on this board would ante up to help you do the humane thing.

Is it the same Jack from here (the post below)? I remember thinking about this old boy while I was still a lurker.

I have a friend in the same situation and with healthy young horses . It is a sad, sad situation that we can't seem to get people interested in horses that are UTD , helathy and sound. Yet people will go to a 'kill pen broker' and pay for questionable horses because the horses are 'at risk'.

Same type of horses, these just have been exposed to the bad dtuff at the auction...germs, bad behavior and stress. And they are about as much 'at risk'.

Situation sucks big time!

It does suck. I don't think, however, you can equate someone looking for a home for her own two horses and saying she'll send them to the auction unless someone steps up to take them, to younger and sounder horses sent to the killer auctions because no one cares enough to do the right thing. Obviously, the OP cares about the horses or they wouldn't be posted. But you know and I know what happens to elderly broodmares and age-unknown semi-sound horses at these auctions. Do you REALLY think the OP's horses are as at-risk as the ones in the pen at New Holland or tied to posts at Camelot?
