Just in case there are any un needed medicines out there for heaves my beloved TC would love it! His heaves is hard to control, so inhalers, albuterol, etc, would be greatly appreciated if you no longer have a use for it. I am trying everything I can to keep my baby compfy! Will pay shipping! Thanks

I don't know where you're located but I highly suggest you look into accupuncture for your horse. I have a 14 yr. old Paint gelding who developed heaves about 3 years ago now. We were at the point of steroids (which could make him founder), inhalants (which would cost almost $1,200 a month and I can't afford) or putting him down when someone mentioned a Dr. King out of Tolono, IL to me. They said he does accupuncture for heaves and has a high success rate.
I talked to Dr. King and he said what needs to be done is 5 - 7 accupuncture treatments ranging between 2 and 4 weeks apart as well as being put on an herbal medication called Breathe Easy. The treatments are costing me about $175.00 per trip and the Breathe Easier lasts one month and costs $120.00. I have seen a HUGE improvement in Austin's breathing since then and Dr. King is terrible about cancelling appointments on me (although he's dealing with a terminally ill mother and has to drive back and forth to KY to take care of her alot and my appointments have been set for Saturdays in the past) and not making it out for between 6 and 7 weeks at a time. I'm sure if he came out when he was supposed to it would make Austin so much better than he already is with the treatments on the schedule they are.
Worth a shot to look into. Just make sure if you do that you find a VET who does accupuncture, not just an accupuncturist.

Thanks for the tip. I had a great vet that did acupuncture but unfortunately he passed away about 6 months ago from cancer so it will take some time to find someone that I trust. I am trying to avoid steroids as much as possible also. I did find some type of supplement for breathing and got two things of it for him, I am not sure if it is the same thing. I started it last week so too early to see results. I will keep trying though! Wow I had no idea the inhalers were so expensive, my vet does keep trying to steer me away from them, no wonder! I love him but I think I would have to sell myself on the street to pay for them! If I thought I had to do it though, hmmm, might have to consider. The world revolves around that old boy!

Another thought is that there is a heaves medication made by Dr. Monfort out of Paxton, IL that he concocted himself. It helped Austin but did not make a huge difference. That's worth a shot. If you would like the contact information for either vet please let me know and I'll get it to you. Either one may know of someone in your area to help you out.

Are those something you can order? Since I am in TN I don't see me hauling my poor to see him. It would certainly be worth a shot!

I would assume you can order them. The numbers are as follows:
Dr. King: 217.485.3452
Dr. Monfort: 309.928.2127
It wouldn't hurt to call and ask.
I do know Dr. King goes to Kentucky on a very regular basis to do some work there so he may know of someone in your area too.
