There is a beautiful male purebred GSD in Elizabethtown, KY that is at risk for euthanasia. He is probably 4yo or so, medium size (70lb?), medium coat, black/tan sable, sweet, appears to be fairly high energy but not crazy or neurotic. Lovely dog. LOVES the water hose. Plays a game when they hose out his run where he tries to catch the stream of water in his mouth. Hilarious and he thinks it's great fun. Sweet, a bit thin, was picked up as a stray. The only time I've heard him bark is when the hose comes out. :) Has been at the shelter about 10 days, no applications on him so far. They have room right now, but if it fills up, he will be on the "list". :( Adoption fees are usually $15 which include shots and neutering! Sometimes fee is $30-ish depending on the shots/care they've received.
Hoping someone can rescue this nice boy. He is a beautiful Shepherd. I already have 4 dogs with 2 GSDs and SO says no more. I would be happy to pick him up and meet partway, etc. Thanks!

I'd suggest contacting the local GSD rescue group (see a few listed below). It's what we did to get a BC out of the pound... and then I ended up with him!
I have 3 BC's.... so no more herding dogs for me!
BTW, mine do the same thing with the hose... it's a herding thing. Movement and all that. :D
Here are some local ones in KY:

Just google "GSD Rescue in KY".

I will call again tomorrow or stop by if I get home from my show early enough and check on his status. As of Wed he had no applications in on him. I told them not to let him get PTS and I really doubt he will, but if he is there for weeks and weeks and the shelter fills up, then it is certainly possible. As such, I am trying to be proactive for him. I am happy to pick him up (and they will let me "adopt" him and then I adopt him out to someone else b/c I have that relationship with them) and meet somewhere etc, but sadly no chance of going to Huntsville! Actually my SO is heading to the GA/AL borer but that is Tues and I don't think they'd let him leave the shelter b/c he isn't fixed yet. They might but probably not. Could get neutered Thurs.
I will certainly contact rescues before I let him get PTS, just thought I'd post here first in case anyone was interested. Also, I will put this in a separate post, but a friend called me tonight and his S-I-L has to get rid of their Golden Retriever. Big beautiful 95lb male in Cincinnati, OH. NOT good with small children. Has not bitten anyone but gets nippy with them. Totally fine with adults per friend. Lovely dog he says, and I believe him. :)

If someone can get him to a point somewhere around Knoxville, TN then I would be willing to do a leg to Chatanooga, TN. Gets him about 75 miles from Huntsville.
PM me.

Too bad it's not closer to October. I'll be headed from Elizabethtown right to Huntsville/Decatur for a horse show.
