At the final day of the teamtest the Dutch Youngriders won the Gold medal, and the Dutch Junior riders won Silver with an Orange Glow.
The Youngriders had a clear win over Germany, and allthough the Dutch junior riders all scored 71% + change it wasn't enough to beat the German team, the difference was made by another rider with a Dutch pasport Sanneke Rothenberger riding for Germany. Sanneke is the daughter of Sven Rothenberger and Gonnelien Rothenberger-Gordijn who both competed for the Dutch team at Atlanta.
With her horse PasoDoble Sanneke scored 73%.

Why did their parents choose to ride for The Netherlands ?
It's my understanding the parents are Dutch but they are choosing to have their child ride for Germany when she could ride for the dutch team? Sorry if my question wasn't clear..

The children of Gonnelien and Sven have both the German and the Dutch nationality, also Sven and Gonnelien have two passports. Sven decided (many years ago) to use his Dutch nationality because he didn't had a chance to be part of the German team. Because of the battle between the family Rothenberger/Gordijn and Sjeff Janssen the family decided now to join the Germans again.
Read my lips : The children of Gonnelien and Sven are very gifted riders with a bunch of wonderfull horses and they fully deserve the scores and palmares they earned both during their pony time and now at the JR/YR circus.
And maybee it's not very encouraging for some to make this statement here on this forum but when we look at the scores and see that the most kids are born in the nest of Olympic and Topriders it must be very hard for other riders who mis these genes.

You wonder how much of it is genes or just having the parents that you have(trainin etc).. The Facts are the Germans and Dutch are the power houses in dressage..

Congrats to both. The Dutch has such a strong team with both YR and Juniors. Shame that Sanneke and her brother ride for Germany, but Theo is right about the feud, which is Holland's loss.
Same with Eddy Stibbe riding for the Netherlands Antilles. Jolly clever, though.

But the problems Rothenberger/Gordijn versus Sjeff Janssen are slowly but surely turning. Sven's father in law eq Gonnelien's father, who is the big sponsor of the Rothenbergers, gave the ride on some wonderfull horses to the van Baalen's.
Back on topic :
It was very special that the German Juniors won Gold, also because one of the team horses is blind. Highway rode under Thea Felicitas Müller a score of 68.10%
Next to this it was unbelievable that all big trainers of the world flew to Portugal to help their students, even while some of them had to hurry back to be in time for the quarantaine for the Olympics.

Ridgeback, it's miles different from what you see in the US. The pony teams are strong, the juniors and the young riders. Sponsorships from an early level. And, both due to the visibility of the sport in Europe and what the sponsored riders give back, huge return on investment for the sponsors. Rabobank's Talentplan is a giant boost. They have the A and B groups, which so many kids aspire to get into. Even at the B level in, say, the juniors, you have kids who are in there teens that would give many, many adults here a huge run for their money.
Laurens van Lieren is a good example of someone who came through those ranks.

That is so great I hope the U.S. will get more into the pony teams.. I remember being in Chicago once and my friend had Michelle Gibson over for a drink to discuss some things and she was up that way for one rider that qualifed for young riders on a quarter horse.. I remember thinking how impressed I was that a rider/trainer at that level would fly up and be with one rider when she could have sent her assistant trainer.
