he's 3 months now and still as fuzzy as day 1. he's thinned - and you can see what appears to be a very dark bay developing - just around his eyes and muzzle but he is otherwise a very tall fuzzbucket.

WB/Th Corlando colt.

My colt started to shed around 3 months. He is 4.5 months now and totally shed out. He was born in late Feb and it is hot here, so I don't know if that means anything.

He started to shed on his neck and legs then slowly he finally shed out on his back. He was a light bay and has shed out to almost black.

First pic is 3 months, last pic is a couple weeks ago! So don't worry! It will happen soon and he will be beautiful!

A curry comb is your friend :) I worked on a farm that was set to hold an inspection... we de-fuzzed a filly in about two weeks by gently currying her 2x/day.

It took about 3 weeks to get all the fuzz off. That was with everyday grooming and a scrub bath every 3 or 4 days! Last to go it the top of the back and little fuzzies on the back of their legs, but I just clipped those off!;)

My three month old is as sleek as can be. The 2 1/2 month old is molting and looks awful. Hopefully the Calf Manna will help....

There are foals and some times yearlings who just don't shed on time to be comfortable in the heat and humidity. I have had to body clip through sweat. The filly was too beat to struggle and as she felt the air move you could sense her relief. PatO

Mine shed their baby fuzz (in our 96 degree heat), when I bring them into the stall with their moms and body clip them. Easy, fast (done in 20 mins or less) but not a perfect job, but oh so much cooler. They look like new little ponies. So easy on them to be clipped and so good for them to be cooler.

Both 2.5 month olds look like shag rugs. One has to go to inspection this coming weekend. She gets brushed daily with a curry, loves it and still looks like a bad bi level rug. At least she is only 2 shades of chestnut (orange baby fuzz and dark chestnut for Take Two) and her face is almost all shed out. The black filly thankfully will not be inspected until later. She is a black foal, the black turned kind of orange foal fuzz in the sun and now is shedding out to black again... in patches.THAT is one ugly shedding job!!

Best advice I ever got for a July inspection was to clip by early June. ;)

I have posted this before. Skin so Soft from Avon is your friend. Douse the foal with it - (dilute about 1/2 with water. It also helps with the flys etc. Then curry away. After a week or so bathe in warm water, hair will start to fall away. The oil helps loosen the hair. Continue on and by the Sept inspections they will be BEAUTIFUL!!! and a really soft and shiney coat!!!

My colt was 3 months on Saturday. His front end is shedded out and his back end was tonite. The middle still has a bit to go. He gets groomed with curry comb, shedding block and brushes daily. He LOVES LOVES LOVES to be groomed. If I’m grooming his mom he tries to get between us so I’ll do him instead. I’ve been using a spray mixture of Skin So Soft and water that I’d read about on my inspection advice thread and that’s been helping too. It was 112 here all last week too. SO glad he’s shedding! We go to inspection the end of August so I have faith he'll be all shedded out by then and nice and dark. Hooray!
