Angela, is Drum Roll a full brother to the stallion prospect colt that Meg Sherman presented last year? If so, big congrats to her! Well, big congrats even if it isn't a full brother, but double congrats if it is!

I for one am delighted to see Arabians being appreciated in modern WB breeding programs... The more credit they get for adding to athleticism and beauty the less the "Arab isn't suitable" stigma will stick.

Drum Roll is full brother to DeFiener Star who was presented at the 2006 inspection. Both are out of Feiner Dance and by DeLaurentis. Feiner Dance is in foal to Sinatra Song for a 2009 foal. She did not have a 2007 foal. Last year Meg had a premium colt by Rosenthal out of a TB mare and a premium colt by Rosenthal out of Maya. Feiner Dance's dam.

Congratulations, Angela.
20 Premiums that is outstanding...good luck with the AHS inspection coming up...and congratulations to all the premium foal breeders and particularly to Meg Sherman.
We are raising the full brother to Drum Roll who is now a 2 year old and still a colt.

Congrats!
On a side note I recently purchased my first warmblood a 4 year old Hanoverian gelding by De Laurentis. He went to his first show last weekend (Dressage at Lexington) and did the 4-5 year old colt/gelding material class, he scored a 72.2. He was an angel! I am hopefully heading to Devon for the 4 year old material class! He has an amazing attitude and learns so quickly, I just love him!

I have bred both De Feiner Star and DrumRoll. Both are exceptional colts. My mare is now 2 for 2: both Premiums, both stallion prospects and both sold before leaving mom. She is back in foal to Sinatra. I'm hoping for a filly this time.
I am trying to post some photos of DrumRoll when he was about a week old and then at about two months. Let me know if this link works.

oooo sounds YUMMY!...this is the most excited we have been , these last couple ofyears, since our IRONMAN/arab foal was born ....each season we feel greater anticipation, the quality and demand increases each year and the performance at the inspections and the open shows is SO encouraging...
Susan's filly Rosebony, has busted a glass ceiling for many of us (others have also done well, but her filly was SOOOO noticed and is so lovely, she really made some sit up and listen to what 'can be'.

My friend previously managed a top Arab breeding farm, and now has become interested in WB breeding as well. She says that in the Arab world there is a strong market for these crosses, but she would like to get the mare approved and the baby registered with a WB registry.

she's right ...we are experiencing a nice demand..and absolutely go for inspection and approval for the mare....and the baby would have double registry, which is nice for those who want to show in more than one venue..

The list of Premium foals listed by Angela left out another colt by Rosenthal named Razmztazz out of the Main Mare Book TB mare Good Angel owned by Ken Horeis of Harrington, DE. This is Good Angel's second Premium foal by Rosenthal. Her first was a filly of 2007 named Rachelrae that won her class at The Devon Horse Show in May and was named Reserve Best Yearling at that prestigeous show. Good Angel is bred once again to Rosenthal for 2009. What a cross!!! By the way, Drum Roll is definitely an outstanding colt and Meg should be congratulated as should his new owner. We look forward to seeing him on the Hunter Breeding circuit next year, even if he'll be tremendous competition for Razmatazz.

Hi,

Donella, thank you for the compliment, he is even more impressive in person...1
Most certainly...the size is not overally compromised......Our arab mare had a 'first foal' n 06, (which many think are usually the smallest) by IRONMAN and he is destined to exceed 16.2 . He is a just a smidge below 15.3 at just 2 yrs old (Mid May) ....Our mare is just barely 15h with good bone, and strong bloodlnes for athletics and some 'taller' individuals in her background..However, with many many arabians at around 15h, bred to 16- 17h stallions, they are NOT hindering size...and we ARE breeding for more' average' big horses, as in 15.3 - 16.3 rather than the monster sized...Our clients usually express a desire for this range, even tall people, as these horses are so sensitive and easy to train/manage/ handle but certainly seem to have the capacity to do everything required quite well..I think if anyone would 'get involved' with one of these crosses, the minds and hearts of these horses would convince you...they really would . We welcome visitors to just 'visit'... and see them unencumbered, at their own environment...
for example, we had to finish body clipping our Mannhattan/arab colt (3 mo old) and my husband did it while the colt was lying down 'napping'...including his tummy...and this is NOT an 'unusual' case...it's the 'norm'.....brains, plus common sense and that indescribable beauty and look at me elegance...you CAN have it all...just visit some of these foals...spend a few moments with them...visit the 2-3 yr olds...Our Ironman son is amazing...loves to jump ON HIS OWN, took to long lines and a bridle like an old draft horse, yet is still a 'devil' with a ton of fun and impishness....

My Half Arab Rosenthal gelding is three, out of a 15 h mare (first foal, no less) and he is 16 hands and it's obvious that he still has some growing to do..
He had nice gaits until about a month ago -- and all of the sudden, they are spectacular.
After seeing Heberto's incredible colt -- I'm thinking this mare needs a date with Sinatra next spring!

Absolutely ! we have a Sinatra and a Delaurentis coming in 09...just got a 45 day confirm TODAY! I can tell you it's a happy happy evening around here...and seeing that colt just made it even BETTER!

My friend has some spectacular Sinatra Song and Delaurentis youngsters. Her Delaurentis filly out of her GP mare is amazing, and won her large and competitive AHS inspection last year. Her website is www.riversideequestrian.org

I have a fond spot for good, sport horse type or "do it all" working type Arabians. My broodmare was a Hanoverian / Arabian cross, with mostly Crabbet on her dam's side (although had one cross to Bask 4 generations back). She was my personal riding horse (dressage) for 6 years, was wonderful on trails, and now teaches novice riders about the hunters. I have her 7 y/o daughter by Feiner Stern, who is now my personal dressage horse, and I can really see the Arabian in her - she is elegant, dry-textured, refined, and very, very classy. She also has the famed Arabian intelligence, sensitivity, loyalty and desire to bond with humans.
I think part of the key when putting Arabian mares to WB stallions is to first of all, use a sport horse type Arabian with good size (15h or better), and ideally one that does NOT have a flat croup. The second key is to use a modern, typey stallion - IOW, breed "type to type" . Using a heavy, old-fashioned stallion with a lot of bone and substance can result in a foal with a mish-mash of parts.
Kudos to those of you doing WB/Arabian crosses with good results. And kudos also to all the other successful breeders at the High Point inspection. I love that De Laurentis / Rosenthal filly!

I think many of us appreciate this kind of enouragement and appreciations..it's a been a long hard road to get to this point..if feels so nice to have others appreciate the fruits of all that labor!
as for size, I think the 15h guideline is a good one to a point..there are, at least in our market, a good demand for horses in a size range that may be smaller than the mainstream warmblood market..and have seen even 14 h mares produce foals that are clearly going to reach 15.2 -16h..as you said, a pedigree study is ALWAYS helpful...and Crabbet is one of our favorites to concentrate on, along with Poilsh.
and of course, NOW we have Weser-Ems for those who have really small arabs...

not to hijack, but for the arab/wmbld breeders, can you tell me where would be a good place to market a cross? A friend of mine has one, and she isnt sure where to market, we are in Quebec. I believe he is by Feiner Stern, if I am not mistaken. You can PM or email me, thanks, Ingrid

This would be a great topic for a new thread; I am, at least, very interested in this subject and would love to hear what others think.

There is a discussion forum for Arabian sporthorses in e-warmbloods.
First Class was used to breed to Arabians back in the 90s. He was not refined. Anyone remember that experiment?

I saw some photos on Susan McAdoo's website recently that were lovely; you might check that out (pm Tobruk for the link if you can't find it in a google search).
Also, you can see a Stedinger foal out of an Arab mare (approved MMB Oldenburg) here:

(the foal is named Saint Sandro; scroll down a bit to see his dam SES Hailey).

I have two Arabian mares (both 15.2 hh) I have thought about breeding to Rosenthal...
This mare, she is quite refined and elegant... I think the WB substance would really help balance out the resulting foal:

And this mare, she is similarly bred to RosEbony's dam... the cross would be stunning:

Thought you might enjoy seeing this recent photo of "RosEbony" the lovely two year old filly by Rosenthal out of Ebony Rose ( Arabian ) bred by Susan McAdoo. She was awarded a premium rating as a foal with G.O.V. , was third in the cosequin USDF finals 2007, Was res. Ch. filly at Morven park this spring, this was all in open classes.
