Whose bright idea was the front cover?

What is it? I haven't gotten mine yet.

I think someone in the office usually chooses the cover photo.

Do you mean the Chernyobl foal (three-legged, four-toed) or the dirty toes?:lol:

I think it's cute. Still, when one of those sharp little hoofers land on those bare feet, she'll learn a thing or two, I think.

Winnie The Pooh sure does his daddy proud, though, on that b/w page. Whaddya do with a trot like that?

I think it's cute.

Well, at least there's one of you. It wasn't a total loss then.

Personally, I prefer the back cover. :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has something to say about the front cover. I was appalled to see that young girl standing with the foal in bare feet. In my opinion, that photo should have never made it into the Welsh In Review, period...let alone the front cover. And for the life of me, I CANNOT figure out which leg goes with which corner of the foal's body :eek: I think it is a horrible, horrible photo to have on the front cover of anything and should have been left on the family fridge!

I am so glad I am not the only one with a problem with the cover. I hate MOST of the covers of the Review AND the yearbook. There seems to usually a safety issue, or it is just plain inappropriate for some reason or other. Or just plain silly.

Then you should check out the front covers of the Welsh In Canada  Each issue can be downloaded at www.welshponyandcob.org/issues.html (http://www.welshponyandcob.org/issues.html) The front cover of the Winter 2007 issue has a very beautiful story that goes along with it that's made everyone cry  I particularly like the Summer 2007 and the Fall 2006 cover photos...cause they're mine! :D

Hummmm.......amazing........I looked and looked at that cover and finally just put it in the pile of newspapers to be thrown out!! NOT A GOOD COVER!! So glad to hear I am not alone in my thoughts.

What a terrible choice for a cover! I wonder if the little girl is the daughter of the publisher or editor. There has to be a reason the editor decided to use that photo for the cover. It is a horrible pic of the foal - and an equally horrible pic of the girl (except for her smile). And it displays an astonishing lack of concern for safety. That is not a good message to send to their readers.

Hey, folks, I'm not that into Welsh--although I have to be a member--so I'm guessing about the demographics of that newsletters readership...

But I've had the feeling from all of the WPSCA materials that most members ARE the "picture on the refridgerator door" types. Looking at the ads and the mostly (no, not all) small-time stuff, presentation, facilities, etc., cutsy-poo without message-minding seems to be the norm.

I don't mean that as an insult. It just seems that most members aren't as concerned about things as the approaches represented on this BB (i.e. maybe the impressions here are not representative of the impressions of the majority in non-hunter, non-show pony, Welshdom???).

That has been my impression too, with the glaring exception of the inside back cover ad. Their website is equally swish. But then look at their sales prices, and you can see why. If you are going to ask that kind of money, you need to look professional enough to able to.

Gayfield always do nice ads, this one is delightfully simple (Moral: Less is More) as is Lochinvar's. Seascape is trying, but the quality of the pictures is poor and you have to pick through the info to figure out that's their stallion and future stallion (would it be too much to ask to actually see him?).

In virtually all of then, I don't understand why people are using 'snapshots'. How much of an investment is a high quality photoshoot for heaven's sake?

It isn't very hard to pick up say, a copy of Vogue or whatever, and analyze the advertisements. How are they laid out? What are they selling? Is the ad clean and easy to read?

off soapbox now.

In regards to the critical, many welsh breeders (of old school) are much more into the cuteness value and the child/pony theme, from a more innocent time. Don't go further than necessary; just see it as they may have. Look at many/most of the UK sites and you'll see what I mean.

Welsh is a breed of mostly amateur owners. I would estimate that the percentage of "professional" owners (ie in the horse business in some fashion) is quite small. At least that is the case up and down the west coast, and out into Tulsa, where we have shown a couple of times. I cannot speak for the east coast -- as I have not attended any Welsh shows out there.

Personally, I find it part of the charm in being involved with the breed. For the post part, folks are very nice and down to earth. It's quite family oriented and very friendly.

I could ramble on and on about some other aspects, but I'll spare you, as it has nothing to do with the topic!!

But I am extremely disappointed to see this chosen cover photo. I think the little girl is darling, but other than that, it leaves a LOT to be desired!!!

Well...sniff...I still like to see the occasional three-legged, four-footed foal.

They're so rare that they always make the magazine cover. So stay tuned.
