I'm glad you posted about him! I was thinking this very thing last week... wondering how he's been doing?

Well, I'm not Susan, and I'm sure she'll come along to update, but I did get to see the grand old man yesterday.

He is SUCH a love, and seems to be in GREAT spirits. We came down to pick up our mare and foal who were down for the mare to be bred to Andy (Argosy), and he was absolutely smitten with the foal. He was NOT pleased that she was leaving. He whinnied at her and even trotted out of his stall to see her load on the trailer...and then proceeded to do little rears in his stall to show his displeasure with her departure. It was great to see him like that!! Last year when we were down with our mare, he was in "ok" spirits, but wasn't very active. This year he looked like a teenage stallion, and even acting like one younger than that!

I was wondering about how Bo was doing the other day too. I'm sure Susan will see this thread so hopefully she'll have an update for us!:D He's such a sweetheart and I really enjoyed being around him.

Oh my gosh, I just saw this thread.

It's hard to believe but less than 3 months ago Bo had reached the end of his battle with IR induced laminitis and we had decided it was time to let him go. While he's never had more rotation, we could not control his foot pain, despite a strict IR diet, and the best hoof care for one with his problem.

A few days before the "date" to euthanize my feed supplier could not obtain his Happy Hoof (low sugar/carb forage for laminitic horses), so I had to make a change to "Hi Fi Gold" forage. As it turns out it's even lower in sugar/starch than Happy Hoof and believe it or not a had a new horse within 2 days. I mean it was incredible! It still is incredible!

Bo is 25 and obviously, like many elder citizens with diabetes, is SO sensitive to sugar now that just the difference between Happy Hoof and Hi-Fi Gold made all the difference for him.

He's full of beans again, about 90% sound and very happy. His crest is diminishing, coat is glowing and up to his hilarous antics. He's completely off the Equioxx that toward the end was providing little relief.

Poor guy, he really pined for little "Ellie", the foal that Steelrdr brought with her dam for breeding. He's extremely paternal and loves to babysit foals and let them chew on his nostril through the stall bars.

Thanks for asking! I swear, it was divine intervention that my feed dealer ran out of Happy Hoof. Had that not happened he'd be gone. Amazing how life works sometimes. I am blessed as is this grand and special stallion.

VB

I'm not superstitious, but I admit I was afraid to write the good news about Bo as it seems every time I did in the last 18 months, he'd crash shortly thereafter. Well, I guess that makes me superstitious (grin).

Hi Susan,

Such GREAT NEWS about Boleem -- hugs from me to you both. You and I both really cherish our older guys! I'm superstitious, too - my wonderful Mom raised us on alot of that stuff, LOL!
